Classic Car and Truck Junkyard Tour. Which Vehicle Should We Rescue?

  • Hi folks. I went out to a couple junkyards today looking for parts for an upcoming top secret project, so I figured I'd take the camera along and do a quick tour. Both yards have a good selection of cars and trucks from the 1920's up to the 1970's. Long story short, I found a vehicle so pathetic that I had to rescue it! More metalwork videos to come, but I thought it would be fun to take a break from that to check out some of the old tin we have laying around in Saskatchewan.

@@CarterAutoRestyling There's also a Mercury pick up around 5:20 that looks pretty mint + a green disco era Mustang around 7:30, a 77-79 2 door Diplomat around 8:20 that would make a good Daily, the red 2 door '69 Impala, the '61 Fury with the crushed roof (piece of cake for you)....I think you need those as well.
The '67 Polara I mentioned in my previous comment is actually a '68 2 door Monaco. It's one you don't come across too often.

Now those yards are great for picking! Saw quite a few I wouldn’t mind having because a guy could save them no problem as long as there’s one solid piece. 😂 Down here in Arkansas USA most people were poor and would end up scrapping a lot of vintage tin. So classic car graveyards are few. That’s why dad and I are making our own to our family’s disappointment. 😂 I couldn’t even guess on which one you would’ve picked up. The few that stood out to me was the 1960ish mercury m100 (USA didn’t sell them here, although one or two do pop up), the Oldsmobile Toronado because who doesn’t like old school front wheel drive, the 1938/39 ford truck, and just any of the random late 40’s early 50’s f1s. Vintage tin is getting harder to find, so collecting when I can is a fun challenge. Fixing them on the other hand is going to be way more fun. 😁

Another awesome video Kyle. Man I wish we had yards like that on where I live. That Cash for clunkers bullshit that happened killed all our yards in my area. There's so many potentially awesome vehicles in both yards. I'd be in heaven if I was in either one of those yards. I saw like five maybe even 6 vehicles that I would love to have. You have a vast array of different style vehicles in your collection. So trying to guess what you might have bought is beyond me my CZcams friend. For I would have bought as many as I possibly could. I totally enjoy your channel Kyle. I am so damn glad that I came across it. You always seem to surprise me. Keep up the awesome content. He always keep me riveted. I'm definitely a lifetime subscriber. Keep On Keeping On Brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The GMC Flatbed @13:02 didn't look bad if you're interested in those. Saw a few other GMC's that might provide missing parts??
The yellow chevy body @ 14:02 looked pretty straight and solid for what was there??
Did see one more 5 window towards the end of the video. Think it was green but couldn't tell if it was a "pickup" or, if so, what size.

You showed the glass, so my guess is one of the late 40’s/early 50’s Chubby 5 window pickups. Personally, I’d have gone home with the cab and front clip of the Green 53 Ford at 12:00 and the white Merc COE right after. The Second yard had way too many cool ones to list, but a lot of them looked really rough for me to tackle.
Edit: I guess my guess was late. I’m catching up on videos and see you posted the next video already. Lmao

I liked the cars in the Maymont lot better. Only some kinds of people like to go shopping in old junk yards. Most folks want to shop in malls for brand new, finished goods. We don't have much in the way of junk yards like that in the California foothills where I live, but we do have lots and lots of older guys who have cherried-out antique cars with expensive paint jobs, nice upholstery, tricked-out engines -- the whole bit -- tucked away here. Quite a bit of money gets spent on these cars.

Kyle thanks for the tour through the field of dreams and some nightmares! Walking the yard must be like going through a candy store for a skilled guy like you. My guess on the vehicle you bought is the 1936 Maple Leaf. Whichever one you bought I'm sure is a great choice and will now be in good hands! All the best in motoring, Kelly

My guess is the 53 Chev pick up listed at $1,500. The glass you showed at the beginning, indicating it was for a summer project, will work on that truck. You're lucky to have those kind of junk yards in your area. My area (Vancouver) no longer has any :( Love the videos!!

No idea which one of the beauties you chose, but I’m sure you’ll have fun with it and thank you for the tour, like everyone else, certainly don’t find many yards like that these days, only modern junk that you can’t fix body wise unless you’ve got skills in paper mache, maybe origami or maybe possess a hot glue gun, blue tack, gaff tape and super glue, but I’m
sure you could pick up those skills as we’ve seen your lovely work with rebuilding drills etc and offering sacrificial items to the fire gods, love it thanks for sharing 🙂👍

That was a fun trip. A lot of good vehicles that need saving. My vote is for the Maple Leaf truck that you showed last as you are in Canada. Whichever it is you will turn it around and make it a usable vehicle again. PS. It could also be that T with the trunk sticking out and no boot.
