Starfall, by James Vilseck

Starfall (2021) is composed for mallet quartet, metallic percussion, and optional piano.
The title is inspired by the feelings of the main theme and colorful harmony throughout. The composition process revolved around a similar idea to a recent indoor drumline show, utilizing multiple players to perform broken chords, specifically variations on major and minor 7th chords.
The work is also inspired by my access to an aluphone, here seen performing the metallic percussion part. The metallic percussion part is intended to be customizable, performable by any 2-octave percussion instrument, such as glockenspiel, crotales, or song bells.
