Your theory about hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction is very interesting. Thanks!

correction @ 24:00 should be high blood flow at the base of the lung, not the top of the lung

The part about capillaries being kept patent by expansion of alveoli is further contraindicated when we discuss Zone 1 of the lungs where Alveolar pressure>Capillary pressure leading to collapse . I am confused

Does the distension and recruitment primarily drop the PVR by increasing the blood flow, by increasing the cross sectional area (and thus directly drop PVR), or both?

I believe that it increases the resistance because it is inversely related to the radius. Resistance is proportional to 1/ radius to the power of 4. This shows that the resistance is highly sensitive to changes in radius. Best wishes.

Regarding the flow : blood flow is also inversely related to the resistance. It makes sense because increasing the blood flow will increase the velocity of the fluid and in turn decrease the resistance. However, it is not to the power of 4 as in the radius, so I would expect the radius to have a greater effect. Please note that I am not sure of my answers as just thought of them in this way. Regards
