No, it adds to businesses nearby. That's fact. Shopping malls pay to create larger traffic.
In college I worked part time to organize events in 3 different malls. We had a farmers market, with just over 60 vendors, in the smallest one every tuesday. We changed locations in the mall to expose the shops evenly. It made a huge difference.
@@davidmiller5832 if it pulled in people who weren't already at the mall, I'd say I agree with that statement. Those were people who were in the mall already doing something.
I wouldn't be at the mall for a book at Barnes & Noble, then see this kid performing, and then afterwards turn to my left and go into a Macy's. Normally people are at malls to do something specific unless it's in a heavily touristy area.
@@davidmiller5832 but in the grand scheme of things if he pulled like 2,000 people, the odds of some of those people wanting to explore new things will increase.but I don't know about a crowd of a hundred people.. also you said you organized the events so they knew about you being there before you were there.but this is me assuming you organized with the venues and not just organized it on your own.

Actually, the "in and out" patrons were the people we wanted to target. Entertainment kept them in the malls longer and they noticed shops they would've otherwised passed by.
Also, malls are privately owned. The company that owns a mall does advertising to benefit their concessions, but they definitely did no advertising for our events. With the exception of the Farmer's Market. The reason why is, adversting is expensive. Especially if it's tailored to just one date. And, We did no advertising ourselves because our budget was Zero. We offered a venue for local artist to perform and have exposure. We also had school performances done as well. Again No advertising.
I, myself often went to shopping centers with no plan to stay. But changed my mind if I saw an interesting event going on. Sometimes I would end up eating lunch or dinner there.
This type of marketing goes on worldwide.

To me the security guard is right in doing his job since he is creating a crowd that obstruct other people’s path. The kid can just do it on a street somewhere that allows it and not somewhere that can annoy other people that complains to the guard or something.
