Kittens got claws is a monster guitar masterpiece
So many people hate SOTT. I love it! After all these years in 2023, it still holds up, sounds great. Daves vocals were superb. Great soungwriting.
It sounds so good because you are a genius.
Highly underrated album. Didn’t perform as well as its predecessor - I think Vai called it “Slip of the Charts” - but it had some cracking good tunes and steve raised the bar (literally and figuratively) for guitarists yet again.
This was a really fun tune to take apart. I learned a lot. And I loved his running commentary on the lyric. That’s a Hendrix thing (a blues thing, really) and in my opinion what lead guitar is supposed to do.
Other standout for me was “Judgement Day”, a sensual, smouldering, epic Zep style slow burner.
Love this album! Still very underrated,
Great song and a great album! I think one of my other favs on that is 'Sailing Ships'. I mean, they're all great songs! Deeper the Love, Now You're Gone, Fool For Your Loving, Cheap and Nasty, Slip of the Tongue. But SS's seems to highlight Steve's guitar skills even more.
David Lender song writing was not even close to the Whitesnake album or even prior album .... but a nice listen for Vai fans
Vandenberg wrote Sailing Ships.
@@AMSOfficial79 I think Vandenberg wrote everything except fool for your loving
Slip of the Tongue is so good that I would call it a generational album. Same goes for Whitesnake that came out in 1987 AND Slide It In in '84.
Those 3 albums are classics and belong in the upper echelon of all time great albums.
Great Album , I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Evolution of the snakes from the rawer Bernie and Mick days into the more polished machine it became. But what a bloody great journey it's been.
And Steve's chapter in that book always worth re-visiting.
Great album :))
I think I know how Steve did it ...The 'Purring' sound is definitely rumbling a detuned limp bottom string on the pickup......& Meaows are Wah Pedal brought up with the whammy bar with a clean sound to get those lovely kitten sounds. 😊
Exactly it is such an interesting piece of music..
Vandenberg composed all songs. Do not forget
We All know that mate...your reason for saying is?.....
I dont like Steve's solo stuff but I LOVED HIS PLAYING when he played with Whitesnake and David Lee Roth. EPIC! If you listen closely among the kittens theres a Lion too!!
Same because he had to play with a rock band its called democracy
@@lstarrtna4288 Actually according to a guitar world article fom the time of release Steve said that the basic tracks were done and it was an open canvass for him and Coverdale let him do what he wanted, I assume it was within reason but Steve knows what to do. Adrian had broken his hand and couldnt play.
00:37 ha ha !!
i love this album, sound crazy cool
The 2019 remastered version is badass!
Worth getting, then! Thanks. :)
@@GreenerHill yeah, it VASTLY improves the original 1989 CD. Also, several rarities and leftovers are great (Parking Ticket, Burning Heart, Kill for the Cut)
@@jjrj8568: Have just been listening to those, and the extended Judgement Day. A great album could've been even greater! Fool for Your Loving was the wrong choice for first single (especially in Europe, where it had been a hit 9 years earlier).
As much as I respect Vai as writer and player, I always felt he was an odd choice as a member of Whitesnake. As the time, I was more familiar with the bluesy aspect of the band and really think they were at their best with Mick and Bernie.
However, SOTT is still a solid record.
We know he's great he doesn't need to tell us himself.
Late reply to this, but here goes. That's exactly why Vai isn't so great imo. Hes too full of himself. I mean you don't hear guitar greats like Alex Lifeson from Rush or if you want more commercial Slash, bang on about how great they are? A little humility and humbleness goes a long way.
@@thedarkness97 He's just explaining the catsound !He is not full of himself .
Стив просто крут))
Lot of fans didn't like his contribution to that slip of the tounge album? After the eponymous 87 album and being a fan of both vandenberg and vai.. Felt it was an awesome album.. OK not as blue's but defo a version of whitesnake that I digged and still do infact.. The 89 version of fool for your loving I thought was cool and the video.. I mean cmon. That solo!! 😮
Vai was great with dlr, with whitesnake it seemed he was stifled a bit but at least it wasn't that alcatrash cd lol
Crack!!!
I'm a simple man, i read "Kittens got claws", i think "G-String tuned to A"... and i click :)
If anyone thinks Steve is just a "wanky shredder" just listen to that first solo in Sailing ships and I challenge you to find one note that is out of place.
I find it difficult to think of someone who was picked to be tutored by Zappa as 'wanky'.
Does he not realize that song was musically “Good Enough” by Van Halen with different lyrics?
I barely know how to play, but when I record something good I play it over and over and I kiss myself in the mirror like it's not me. Why shouldn't VAI do the same? I mean, Ibanez should build him a golden statue... 🤟😈🎸
Greast😊
I know you ain't a bad girl honey
No matter what the neighbors say
It's just you wear those skin tight dresses
With your G string tuned to "A"
😏
2019... Steel Panther or Whitesnake... hard to tell!
Great song. Album was over produced, but good overall.
And they say Malmsteen has a huge ego.
Hearing aids?
Vai is great but he was Overplaying on this record. It just didnt suit the songs
is he losing his hearing? i see a hearing aid in his left ear. I know he has been super careful with his hearing since he blew his right ear, causing permanent damage, as a kid.
