  • Mevagissey Cornwall is a charming harbour village situated near St Austell on the south coast of Cornwall, England. The village boasts a picturesque harbour, stunning coastal scenery, and a rich fishing history. Here are some reasons why you should visit Mevagissey:
Mevagissey's harbour is the heart of the village. Take a stroll along the harbour front, admire the colorful fishing boats, and soak up the atmosphere of this traditional Cornish fishing village. You can also take a boat trip around the bay or enjoy a seafood meal at one of the many harbourside restaurants.
Crabbing is a popular activity in Mevagissey, especially for families. You can purchase a crabbing line and bait from the harbour and spend an afternoon trying to catch some crabs. Crabbing is a great way to learn about the local marine life and have some fun at the same time.
Mevagissey is located along the South West Coast Path, a national trail that offers stunning views of the Cornish coastline. You can take a short walk from the village to neighboring villages like Portloe or Gorran Haven, or embark on a longer hike to explore further afield.
Learn about the history of Mevagissey at the Mevagissey Museum, located on the harbour front. The museum houses a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the village's fishing heritage, shipbuilding industry, and everyday life in Mevagissey over the centuries.
While Mevagissey itself doesn't have a large beach, there are several beautiful beaches located a short drive away. Porthpean Beach is a popular option, with golden sand and gentle waves, perfect for swimming and sunbathing.
While Mevagissey itself doesn't boast a vast number of top-tier visitor attractions, the surrounding area offers a wealth of things to see and do:

My friend & I spent several days in Mevagissey last May & absolutely loved it, though the parking was a little awkward to say the least. Our hostess arranged parking in front of another house for us further uphill so it was a hike to get the car each morning to go visit The Eden Project & The Lost Gardens Of Heligan. We enjoyed scrumptious fish pie in the Fountain Inn. Such a gorgeous village. Thanks for the revisit.

I have to say, I think Mevagissey is one of those little hidden secret places. The fewer people know about it, the better it is for those that do!!
I went here as a child with my parents many years ago. We stayed at Gorran Haven which is close by. Over the years it looks like it has barely changed. What I like about Mevagissey is it's touristy without being too touristy. Still the locals doing local things, a full working harbour, the odd gift shop here and there and pubs (and there are quite a few for a small seaside village!). It has all the charm of Cornwall without the arcades and other trappings of the North Cornish coast, which is why I prefer the South Cornish coast so much. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it isn't over commercialised like some places. Great video.

The film Johnny Frenchman was filmed in Mevagissy in 1944, it was to have been part filmed in Brittany but was still under German control, so Mevagissy was split into two halves to portray itself to the film. I remember it well, the villagers were involved as extras, I was in the French half of the village. The actors were Tom Walls with Patricia Roc as his daughter, a French lady, Francoise Rosay was representing the enemy, as it were, the plot was about a fishing war between the Cornish fishermen and the Brittany poachers.
