I am not Eastern Orthodox, but I been today at EO church to light up candles and pray to the LORD and a lady told me when we were talking that the fast starts tommorow.
I may not be able to do 40 day fasting as a student, but I am ready to try it out. It is just as you say, this time is the perfect time to reflect on ourselves and do self-examination.
Been meaning to ask Fr. Deacon John for an advice how to properly keep the Lord's day and some advice on spiritual health?
Thank you for the video and blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ to you and your ministry.

Peace of Christ. Keep visiting the Orthodox parish as you can, including any week night services. A daily morning and nightly prayer is a good standard. Adding a few moments of silence to these prayers can be helpful. Read one of the first 3 Gospels and John's Gospel as the writers have a different perspective of our Lord's life on earth. Anthony Bloom's book "Beginning to Pray" is a very good intro to Orthodox spiritual living. Talk to the priest and whoever leads the catechumens.
      Christ be with you.
