Today's players? The ball carrying epidemic started in the early 1980's. Magic being the main reason for it. You see, for the first time ever, officials had to allow a 6'9" man to play point guard. And everything changed after that. From that point on, carrying was a lot less likely to be called. Then, in the 1990's it became even less likely to be called. And it the 2000's even more so. This is what opened up the door for all of the cross over/ankle breaker flash players (Iverson, Hardaway, Williams etc). Now of course, Pistol, Dr. J, and MJ did most of those tricks before any of guys, but unlike them, those legends had games that didn't depend on dribbling tricks (I mean, some of those crossover guys' entire games were based on tricks). But those guys did take "tricks & traveling" to an entire new level. However, MJ always got away with massive amounts of carrying, especially when he played guys 1-on-1. This is one of the main reasons why I don't think he's the GOAT!

Sad seeing dead people rip
1:48 I wonder how many times did he slam himself in the nuts when he first tried that drill? 🥜 😂
3:11
His bouncing he could be 1 hell of a drummer ill bet on it and buddy 👍
Kendrick Perkins sent me here 😁
As a massive Larry Bird fan I would feel compelled to say he was not as skilled as The Pistol. I would say trully in the ether with Jordan and a few others.
Two completely diff makeup of players, we can go down a list of skilled players that were better then goats , that’s why they are so many variables in basketball , everyone is skilled in their own way
@@davee7344 Agreed. But I have never seen a better ball handler or passer in Pete's prime. Just never have. Jordan is far and away in my opinion the GOAT. However the pistol could even out dribble him and outpass him in his prime.
@@davidburkholder7360 💯 agree and the players now Actually palm the ball and carry , look at Pete he actually dribbles imagine him being able to get away with palming like today
Bird got a lot of his moves from Pistol as he played his last season coming off the bench only a shell of his prime yet he avg 23 points/game. Most the players on that team said Pistol shot them into the playoffs coming off the bench! Magic will admit he stole a lot of his moves off the pistol! Only now is he getting the recognition he deserves since U tube that will make him immortal-his college record will never even be approached! Only one Artery-that was a miracle in itself-he shouldn’t of lived past 20 and that’s just being a regular guy. My nephew was called a miracle baby and only made it to 24! Amazing! Though I’m an atheist his finding Christ & peace he was looking for his entire life made me not a believer but respect what it can do for some people! RIP PISTOL!
1:40 can go veeeery wrong for most guys attempting this...
🤣
It was called turning the ball over aka palming the ball it has vanished over the years they dribble up past there waste nothing is ever called
How many times he get hit in the nads on those drills b4 getting good. Lol
🔥🔥🔥
*just can live without basketball*

He crawled out his windows when he was 12 and slept with his bball! He dribbled while his father drove slowly down the road.
Heard he was in the mob well ties
He would destroy Jordan 1 on 1
Lol no
Hell no
It would be a lot of fun for sure.
Hahahaha, LMFAO, pistol pete wouldn't even score 1 point on Jordan, they could play to a 100 and Jordan would beat him a 100-0
Pistol was too skilled Jordan wasn't
Probably not 1 college player could do those
It would be tough to do unless they worked at it. And Pete worked religiously at it, from an early age.
Ahead of his time per ball handling and passing. One of the best to never win it
he was purely technically sound be needed a touch more swag, he's like eating cereal without milk
