Thank you I had private contractor tell me I had to replace tub and shower to so for the same leak you had he quoted me $3500. I spent around $25.00 dollars ! Thank you for being so
Detailed while explaining. Did take me a minute as well to get that pin back in! My wife was proud! She was so proud she I could take her out to dinner, still haven’t figured that logic out yet 😂😂! Thank you again!

Thank-you tons, Kim! I've watched several videos made by professional plumbers on this particular task and yours is the best! It takes a woman! I'm a 63 year-old daughter of parents who, because of me, are able to live in their own home still. Among my responsibilities for their well-being I am also responsible for their home's maintenance. I can do this!

Thanks. I'm a 67 year old woman and your video taught me what I needed to know to replace my cartridge and fix my leak. The hardest part was finding the right cartridge for my old faucet. Even the local plumbing specialty store didn't carry it, but they printed out the info so I could order it on-line. The part cost me $5.85 plus $13 to get it shipped to me in Hawaii. My cartridge didn't have any kind of clip or pin, and the only tool I needed was my Phillips screwdriver. I was so happy I didn't have to call a plumber, and maybe even open a wall to change everything. And it was exhilarating to turn the water back on (you need to shut it off first) and not have the leak anymore.

  • @starbrand3726
    @starbrand3726 Před 3 lety +5

I know this video is old, but the information is rock solid. Thank you, this video saved me hundreds of dollars. I did the repairs yesterday and it worked. My only mistake was the incorrect rotation of the cartridge. The leak stopped completely but I had no hot water. However, a simple rotation of the cartridge (to the left) using that stupid indispensable plastic tool, and my hot water returned.

I don't usually comment but I just want to thank you for this detailed video. My husband and I went to Home Depot and got the 1225 cartridge like you said and it fit like a charm. The plastic piece comes in handy and we are definitely going to save it with our plumbing bin. Continue to make more amazing videos!

I just had a quote from a local Cleveland plumber on1/23, using MY purchased tub faucet Moen system for $800. Easy access to my CPVC piping in the back. We have a leak on our kitchen ceiling. Looks like the cartridge is what has caused the leak, also our spout does have water coming out when we pull the shower lever up. So I just figured to do 100% replacement. Thanks for showing how to. B4 youtube I did most repairs using Time Life books.

    Nice job...!
One useful tip....; always cover the drainage hole with a cloth or something when removing small parts and screws...! If it falls to the ground it will disappear down the hole.
And lay a towel or mat in the bath or on the tiles incase you drop something heavy so it won't chip or damage the refined surfaces.

I had exactly the same Moen cartridge, but I went and bought a cartridge remover, so I was able to take advantage of the free cartridge replacement. The cartridge remover was about $13 with tax. The first time I had a leak, replacing the knob itself fixed it. This is the 3rd time I've had a leak, and this one wasn't fixed by changing out the knobs. Had no idea about needing a new cartridge, so I will definitely try this. Thanks for posting! ETA I have now replaced my cartridge that cost $20 at Lowe's and no more drip. Thanks again! Never would have figured it out without your help! Oh, and you don't need that plastic piece to take out the old cartridge. I used pliers and a bit of elbow grease! :) The plastic piece helps you rotate the new cartidge so you can put in that little horseshoe piece that locks it in place.

this is why I love when regular people figure this stuff out. I'm a plumber and what she just did cost her about $45. Now if you were to call me to do it your looking at around $300. Now being a plumber, things like this are at the bottom of the list of things to do for the day simply because there are more important calls I have to go to. the only thing that I saw wrong is, that plastic piece she used to turn the cartridge is really used to set the new one in place, you can use channel locks to pull the old one out or go to home depot and down about $20 to get a cartridge puller. I just use channel locks myself but there are times if the old cartridge is stuck then I'll use the puller, you just get a feel for it.

@@reciamontgomery4555 you should have a main water shut off valve somewhere in your house. If you have a basement it's probably there. It shuts the water off from the connection to the water line from the street.

I watched a couple of other videos and decided I wouldn't be able to do this and would need to call a plumber. Then I watched yours and you made it look so simple I decided to give it a try. I went to Home Hardware (Canada) and the cartridge was free. They said it was a warranty part. I played your video as I followed step by step and had it fixed and working perfectly in a few minutes. Thank you so much for an excellent video!

Really happy to hear that! I love Home Hardware - my first hardware store go-to when visiting and helping my mom with her DIY's.

I realize it's been a couple years but still wanted to thank you for the video. In particular, and probably important for all viewers like me, the last moments of your video answered a critical question about my own Moen shower valve - you PULLED and PUSHED your handle to turn the water on - mine (about 27 years old) only rotates to turn water on/off and adjust temperature. This strongly suggests the cartridge I need is NOT the 1225; since the main other cartridge is the 1222 (or 1222B) I can readily read the packaging BEFORE buying the rather-expensive cartridge and get much closer to figuring this out correctly.

She's talking about her housekeeping skills like they're bad..yet I don't see a single speck of soap scum on that glass door and those things are a PAIN to clean if you don't keep up with it. So in my opinion, her housekeeping skills are top notch.

This was a great video? Very good explanation and straight to the point. You got me through it. I should have watched your video first! Shout out to my local Ace Hardware for having the Moen cartridge...I got the last one on the shelf.

Great video!! Very detailed. Don't mean to be putting down the men, but women do the best job of explaining how to do things. One of the videos didn't even tell you to turn off the water. Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful and well done!

I am going to do this, after watching you twice and two other videos. You covered all the little extra things the others left out. Feeling confident, now to buy the cartridge and gather tools.😃
