What a shame about the wasted trees. Very good of you to share the headwinds and down turns and not only the wins and successes. And well done on keep going with a new plan👍 Thanks for sharing😊

I’ve been growing eucalyptus like you, the ones I planted directly in the ground and failed, but the few that I potted up and placed near a wall I’ve done okay in the pot. I’ll leave them in the box for another season (they’ve been in for four months now) and probably park them up next year for about 30 cm high at the moment. Also I planted a load of coconuts and they were all that up and eaton probably by voles and mice . So what I’ve done now is plant seeds in a white plastic storage box with a lid. I did this with acorns and horse chestnuts and they’ve all grown and survived the slightly taller storage boxes. I’ve given enough room for the seedlings to Greg to 30 cm I didn’t put any drainage in the bottom I just made sure that Saul was fairly moist and then get the lid on. It created a microclimate and they thrivd A great method that I’ll be using again next year

Happy new year to you too. Thanks for posting. A useful lesson for those of us that follow you - stick with native trees. I have seen a lot of smallholders planting willow. Obviously it roots readily, but I’m not sure it produces the best firewood.

Yeah I do have some willow dotted about, it’s not the best but over the years I’ve burned loads of it, as long as it’s dry it’s ok
