I have been regretting that I am going to Barcelona in August until I came across this video.
FINALLY a video in which a CZcamsr is showing good menú del día options in Barcelona WITH prices and even the receipts! This is what I needed. Literally every other CZcamsr sells themselves out and just shows you places to eat in the Gothic Quarter or La Barceloneta without showing prices and etc. I am subscribing to this channel. Super helpful. Thank you so much!
Be very welcome to the channel. It might well be that the prices shown on the video have increased a bit due to inflation, but those are definitely honest recommendations of places we like. Sometimes we see videos on food in Barcelona that want to make us cry... All the best!
Teleferic was terrific. The smoked aubergines with burrata cream, and the steak were outstanding.
We were so pleased with the meal that we are going back today for lunch.

Hi, Tony! We tried LA BARCA DEL SALAMANCA by the beach, and it was sooo good! We were there at 12pm, and was able to be seated immediately. But after 1pm all the tables started filling up. They did ask for tip maybe because they sensed we are from the states. The service was good, so I didn't mind. Thank you for your recommendation!

Hi, Tony! We found this restaurant called Cerveseria Catalana close tobour hotel at Passeig de Gràcia. It is SO good that we went back 3 nights in a row. Planning to go back again tomorrow night to try the rest of the stuff. Everything is delicious and fresh, and reasonable price. No reservation needed. But try to go before 6:30pm to beat the crowd. You got to try it when you're here next time.

Tony, Thank you and your wife so much for the very informative videos. Following your recommendations, we had some really good meals in Barcelona. The menú del día (daily menu/set menu) is really the best deal tourists can hope for. It turns out that most restaurants offer daily menus from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, some of them even on Saturdays and Sundays. We had it at the Cafe Palau at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, which is really good. We also found Restaurant Santa Anna (Carrer de Santa Anna, 8, 08002 Barcelona) which is just 50 meters from La Rambla. They have fantastic black rice as a starter and amazing pear-in-wine as dessert.

Coming back to this video, by watching this video, we have tried the food in "L'Arrosseria Xàtiva" and Teleferic...Like u already mentioned paella is best L'Arrosseria Xàtiva (and as well marinated mussels). We liked cheese cake very much in Teleferic. We were not lucky enough yet to have "menu del dia" as we came in Christmas holiday time.. tomorrow we will be visiting one more restaurant from your list "La Barca del Salamanca". Hopefully we will get menu del dia there (for lunch). Once again we are very much thankful to you and we really fell in love with Spanish culinary..😊

Thanks for saving us again.. we were about to be deceived by google again as it still showing the restaurant timings.. we were deceived on Christmas Eve as restaurant Teleferic was showed as open on google but it's actually not.
@@krishnasivaprasadreddyYenugula in actual fact there is a Barca del Salamanca at a different address, that's what Google must have shown you. We've never eaten there and cannot vouch for it.
Hi Tony, I followed your recommendation to have a menu del dia in Barcelona Maritime museum restaurant. The food was disappointed. Soup and salad were ok, but the veal dish used low quality meat and was over cooked that difficult to cut. Good thing was nice restaurant space, and the free museum access for senior after 3pm.
Thanks John, we had a great meal there, that's why we recommend it, but restaurants are a very difficult topic to assess, as the experience can differ greatly along time.
Traveling to Barcelona next week with my wife and our itinerary is massively inspired by your videos, Tony. First we take the Costa Brava road trip and then spend some days in Barcelona enjoying tapas and menu del dias!

Hola Tony. My partner and I are going to be in Barcelona for 6 day at the end of October and then in Madrid for 6 days. First, thank you both for the all great videos and una montaña de information. We are really excited and your videos have helped tremendously. I was wondering if you might be able to recommend some restaurants near Font d’Hercules., which is a few blocks from La Sagrada Familia. We eat anything but are really looking forward to trying some yummy tapas and Spanish food. In Madrid we will be staying in the Ibiza neighborhood. If there are places in this neighborhood that you can recommend, this would be great too. Gracias por sus ayudas y que tengan una semana buena.
Hi Aaron, we haven't got a topic on those areas yet. Eating near the Sagrada Familia is tough. The only restaurant we recommend nearby is Puertecillo Sagrada Família. All the best.

Hi, sharing a menú del día is a definite no-no. If you don't want to eat a lot of food, you order from the a la carte menu.

We just returned yesterday to Canada from Barcelona. I wanted to share with you our experience as I am a seafood lover and on your referral, planned La Barca del Salamanca as the highlight meal of our trip.
We arrived at 6pm and weren't aware the menu de Dia finished at 4pm until we sat down but I really wanted the seafood fideua you'd shown. It was listed as €18, €4 more than I'd planned with the menu del Dia at €14 but I wanted it. What I didn't know is they offered to "clean" (take off shells) the seafood and this raised the price from €18 to €24 !!! 😱 it was also not served with the aoli. It was pretty disappointing to be honest. The bread and olives were just placed at the table without asking and we assumed, as in your video, they were complimentary. They were not and we were charged €7 for them which we would have passed on had we known.
I assume it was the difference of meal time but the portions were HUGE. This isn't normally a bad thing but again, had we known we would have only ordered one. Instead we ended up wasting so much food and made me so sad.
Lastly you said that it was not a tourist trap but i would dissagree. We saw nothing but tourists and felt we were being pressured to buy steak or order lobster or seafood from the fresh cart. Again not necessarily a bad thing but it felt very sales pitch-y and the maitre d made comments about "earning" his "big tip " from us. It felt very touristy to be honest.
In the end I was pretty disappointed and sad it wasn't as good as many of the other meals we had on out trip yet it was the most expensive at €124 (€140 with the tip) when we figured it would be around €70-80. So to your viewers I would suggest to be more inquisitive than we were and be aware of the time and added costs.
Dear Molly, many thanks for sharing your experience. To be honest with you, what we are assessing here is the "menú del dia" experience at the restaurants mentioned above, we would never go to Barca del Salamanca outside the menu del día time (at the video we dedicate to menu del día we explain how it is offered at lunch time during weekdays). We strongly believe it is not a tourist trap (you saw just tourists outside the menú del día time, locals don't eat when things are more expensive), our local friends go there, we see groups of local people eating at the Barca del Salamanca every time we are there. But always at the "menú del día" time.
Anyway, we understand your frustration and hope you have a better experience elsewhere, make sure you go between 13:30 and 15:00. All the best!

However, I am somewhat concerned about being a single diner. I read elsewhere that some restaurants in Barcelona were not too fond of solo diners. Hi Carlos, we can't speak on behalf of the restaurant, but feel that shouldn't be a problem. If I'm not mistaken, you can book your lunch online, if it accepts a booking for one person, you should be fine.

Amazing that the menu price is so much cheaper than we spent back in May 2023. I will definitely try some of these restaurants, especially Fonda Espana. Do you have to make a reservation ahead of the time?
Menu prices have gone up since we recorded the video. Fonda España is not that big, we strongly recommend booking in advance.

The daily menu, in the vast majority of restaurants, is only served Monday to Friday. But you might find a weekend menu at La Barca del Salamanca, slightly more expensive but interesting the same.

By law, tips can never be added to the bill, they are always optional.

It was 12p, not 1p. I would say on weekends it is better to make reservations.
Tony, thanks for a great video. My question is regarding tipping. The meals all look so good and so reasonably priced. Is tipping expected, necessary, not expected or insulting ? Here in the States tipping of a minimum of 15% is expected…I always tip a minimum of 20%. I am not a wealthy man but I remember what it is like to be a humble server.

I've got a silly question: In Sydney we tap our phones to pay for everything (from transport, to supermarkets, shops, restaurants, etc), I have not carried my physical credit card with me for years. How does it work in Barcelona and others cities in Spain? Is tapping ok or do you always need your physical card (specifically when going to restaurants and bars)?
Hello, payment with the phone is increasingly more common and I would say you can make that kind of payments on most shops, bars and restaurants in Spain. But you cannot take it for granted yet, there will be a small number of places that will not offer that means of payment. There are still places where credit cards are not accepted at all! Hi Norm, you can book in on the phone or going to the restaurant in person. Make sure they are still offering the daily menu on Saturdays, though. They will give you all the details, including the operating times. All the best.

Tough choice, that's why we didn't include any. The only one we vouch for (it's excellent) is the one offered in the Ascent restaurant. Price above 20€, but for the food served, an unbeatable deal.

It seems that la barca del Salamanca has a new address in Barcelonetta according to Google maps.
That is the Restaurante Salamanca, we've never eaten there and cannot vouch for its quality. The owners may be the same as the Barca del Salamanca, but it is not the same restaurant.

Hi there, no, you cannot share a daily menu. If you don't want to eat much, order directly from the a la carte menu.
We went to Teleferic for the daily menu but apparently they don’t do it on the weekends so we had to choose from the normal menu which we did. The food was good but paid 65 euro for a two course meal for two.

Aloha from Hawaii. We will be in Barcelona this May 2024, out first trip to Spain. My wife and I are small eaters so it is not unusual that we share a meal. Is this an acceptable expectation in Barcelona restaurants specially for lunch with large portions - Menu del dia.??? Or do we just look for 1/2 menu option?
Hello Sandy, you can share anything but the daily menu. Sharing a "menú del día" is an absolute no-no. If you are not big eaters, our advice is to order from the a la carte menu or, as you pointed out, look for restaurants offering a reduced version of the full daily menu - Teleferic used to do that. PLS note that the Salamanca restaurant at the port is closed right now so went to the same establishment a few blocks away by accident. Ordered seafood paella for 2, calimari appetizer, and water for $60 euro total before tips (19×2+14+fees). The calimari appetizer was blank (just a lemon, no dipping sauce). The paella was a large portion but bland (needed more flavor and salt). Service was ok. Overall, just so so, not great.
Thanks, on the first commentary below the video we warned about the closure of the Barca del Salamanca, our recommended restaurant. The Restaurante Salamanca in the Barceloneta is a different restaurant from the one we recommend.
If we come with our family it means adult and child, can we sharing menu for each other? Is it okay to do such things in Barcelona?
Menú del día cannot be shared. If there isn't a kid's menu, the child can always order from the a la carte menu.

If each one orders a menú del día you can exchange dishes with one another. But you cannot order just the one menú del día for several people.
We do not like seafood so that rules out quite a few dishes, it seems.
I would say just "a few" dishes.
Hi Tony, I will be in Barcelona in July with my daughter. We are interested in trying out Menu Del Dia but both of us don't eat a lot and after watching this video we find that the portions are really large for us. Would it be acceptable for the restaurants for 2 persons to share a Menu Del Dia?
Hi Karen, sharing a menú del día is a no-no in most places. If you feel you won't be able to eat that much, order from the a la carte menu.
