- Modest Mouse - Grey Ice Water
2001-09-26
Variety Playhouse
Atlanta, GA
One of my all time favorite songs by MM and one of my favorite live versions. There's a video of this song from this show posted on here somewhere but this version is less blocky. Enjoy.

RIP Jeremiah 😢
Golden age Modest Mouse. Doesn't get better than this.
Crazy to think this was just 2 weeks after 9/11.
this song sounds so much better live, either way ive went to this song to cry for years now and im never dissapointed
at home on a boat, its a fish trapppp
You had yourself a crazy lover.. trying hard to forgive her…
This fucking band man I swear. They are simply the greatest band currently making music to me every year I get older they get better
Best damn version of this song. Wish I was at this show.
Holy shit! I don't know if it's the alcohol I just had but I think this may be the most mind blowingly amazing performance ever!!!!
damn they sound good live on this one..
sharp sound on the guitar love it!
Has to be my favorite song from them :]
One of their best live videos on youtube. Great sound, great quality
Sick extended play, much better than the original.
thank you flyrocket for the best modest mouse videos on the youtubes
The new stuff definitely has its shining moments, but there is just something* about the old stuff that makes it special that doesn't seem to exist in the new stuff. Not for me anyways.
I love every song they put it out because it’s modest mouse but everything from their first album to GNFPWLBN is untouchable
I completely agree.
Sad sappy sucker is so good!
Thanks for uploading this. I have listened to this live version countless times, 4:31 mark of extended jam is just gorgeous. Cheers for putting this up.
They played this in Dallas. So glad to have witnessed it
the real van gogh when the sound cut out bro!
they had the crazy screen shit that tour...was awesome...best mm i ever saw (ft. worth tx)
Aww, I love this band and this song :)
Have you checked out Ugly Cassanova yet? Soooo good, just oozing with Issacs soul. MM hasn't skipped a beat in my opionion. Sure the sound has changed throughout the albumbs, but the music is still great and has that unique MM sound.
They still are!
a new fan of the old stuff, that's cool
it's all good, some of the new stuff is awesome, but yeah, the early stuff is classic. Interstate 8, Beach Side Property, Ohio, (or Ohiyeeeohuhoh, if you're into onomatopoeia)... these songs will always bring back memories.
But don't knock the new stuff either. Invisible is great, reminds me of Convenient Parking, King Rat's growing on me, Fly in a Jar, Parting of the Sensory, Satin in a Coffin, Ocean Breathes Salty, all top notch
@HamsterMods my hand has remained unwashed for five years now.
A masterpiece
Great quality, thanks for posting :)
i am a new fan of MM,
A fan of their old stuff,
i can relate to it,
and I am about as fucked up as Isaac,
Wish i could write like that,
Love Marr's stuff but not necessarily the new character of the band after his arrival.
Just a few thoughts, hoping for comments from experienced MM fans
perfect.
by watching this I would have never guessed he screamed bloody murder while sing Doin' The Cockroach in the same night as this.
Is this the ATL show at Variety?
@NmHman127Nugget Agreed. I just get lost in that guitar. the melody is soothing
rhis
is
badass.
For one, Jeremiah Green has been back in the band for almost 4 years now.
And to the guy above, that is definitely Robin Perringer and Bret Netson of Built To Spill/Caustic Resin.
Think b4 you post.
MM FOREVER!!!!
i LOVE MM!
they were the best!
you all say mm is the best and consider yourself fans but then you say "RIP MM". You have to understand they are humans too and they have changed.
Is Robin Peringer, he also have played with Elliott Smith, 764-Hero and Band of Horses.
grey ice water is my in game name ahaha
Great video. They should've dug up Nicole Johnson for live shows.
The various stages of decay... Yes. "And the arctic blast..."
@Capitalocracy Allow me to add to your list of "new" stuff (which is anything Good News and later): Black Cadillacs, Little Motel, One Chance, The World At Large, History Sticks to Your Feet, Missed The Boat, Spitting Venom. that's the short list :)
If you guys would look around, you'd see that the video is just a continuation of a music video that they put together for Things I don't Remember, By UC. I wonder if this song has an official video.
Yes.
@ThomasReichJ The videos are what makes this show. I'm pretty sure Ugly Casanova made these or whoever made them for the UC music video. And a lot looks like it comes from royalty free stock video.
Looks like he's making sweet love to his guitar and in return his guitar is making beautiful orgasmic music:)
Beautiful music, this is santana shit. Was introduced to modest mouse music back in 2000 by Travis M. Thanks Travi for letting me see a different side of music. Im flying high with this one
Leon you're an idot.
Maybe so, but at least I'm smart enough to comprehend a comment. She never said this song was from 2000 you mind sloth. She said, and I state "Was introduced to modest mouse music back in 2000". If I said I was introduced to Mozart in 2014, would you interpret that to me saying, Mozart started composing music 2 years ago? Lastly, in the two seconds it took you to type "whos santana?" you could have googled it, or I dunno, maybe used CZcams to figure out. I mean Santana has only sold over 100 million records, but why should a dummy like you know who they are. "+linda Felix im confused" I bet you spend most of your day confused.
Okay Leon
Okay Leon
Who the hell is the second guitarist?
Wanna say it’s the Built to Spill guy.
You; i believe you.
@KingSoliman
Yeah, Nicole's voice added a lot to those songs she was part of...
ahaha i love modest mouse. lol at the background at 7:45.
@JDC1316 HAHA. Probably the best comment ever. thumbs up.
Back when Isaac cared about his live performance... 💜
I know what you mean. I saw then this summer before they went to Europe. Still a great show but they just kinda ran through the motions.
no if you look down, youll see who i was talking too.
its simple
hey entropicspore i think you replied to the wrong person..? i only commented on what i thought was the name of the touring guitarist.
Ahmen Brother
Its artic glass
That's Gallucci (sp?) not Perringer on the second git.
It’s a fish trap
I think his name is robin
I forget his last name.
Who's the other guitarist?
robin peringer
3:18
i was about to make that same time stamp, that part makes the whole video for me
Is that Eric Judy?
Sure is.
flyrocket19 wish I got to see them when he was still around
Their shows with all the crazy technology and so much going on on stage is still really cool but it kinda feels like the difference between pre and post good news mm. Thanks for the cool video bro
yesnogo yes I was lucky enough to see the original trio perform. Like most bands though modest mouse has evolved there sound and unfortunately members retire from the group. At some point I plan to re-upload all the shows in full as a lot of them got taken down.
flyrocket19 please do!
@ThomasReichJ i think theyre pretty funny
Somehow this was a b side?
Their greatest songs are b sides
Iron maiden Eddie Murphy's pizza 🍕 to get there as soon as you can thanks 😊🍦
lol
Great video. All of them are from this concert, I only wish that either they hadn't put that stupid video on the screen. I also wish the person recording the show hadn't been so interested in watching it. Why is it there anyway? As it is I'm not even putting this on my ipod just because the projector is disgusting. The pictures don't relate to the song or anything, ever, anywhere. I'm confused as to where they got all those images. Who makes those?
quite an overreaction over something so minor i think.
HaHaHa had to put it was a inside job.
And the moral of the story is, nobody gives a shit.
lol
