  • We are trying out some new video techniques as we build our new student cabins. Let me know what you think of the new video format!
    NOTE: I got a bit of education as for the majority of my life, the terms Norfolk and Suffolk had been used interchangeably with latch. There seems to be a difference of a backplate, the Norfolk being the updated version. Will do some more research....

      Yep, its been a pain trying to balance film and actual work but this format takes a tremendous amount off of the production side.

    Watching that power hammer you can see why they needed a load of strikers when doing bigger stuff with sledgehammers. Good stuff 👍

    Very nice man! Somehow I didn't have you as a subscription? But I fixed that. I've commented with my everyday channel before but yeah, keep the stuff coming. You, Roy, John, Jimmy and Thak are what helped me make the jump into my venture. Now almost 2 years in and I have a decent hut loaded with all the basics and "traditional" essentials, well over 200 projects(a ton of leaves, hooks and skulls in the first year) and now a nicely stocked "tool bag" full of hand made tools. I wish I had the drive I have now 15 years ago but I'll catch up. It somtimes sends me up the wall thinking that it took me 20 years to finally figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, but what can ya do? I'm fortunate that I had my Grandpa as a kid to teach me basic carpentry skills and such. And I never thought spending 4 years at a foundry would be so beneficial lol! Paragraph aside, thank you.
    Oh and hey, any chance you have any tips or tricks on getting a chimney/exhaust vent for a near full outdoor shop. I have a 10x10 canopy that I have partially enclosed with real thick tarps(I understand the dangers with that and have precautions in place. Enclosed forge, ect). Should I make something like they use in those big canvas camping tents with pipes or would there be an easier way? Any ideas on the a fan or air pump? I just really like using coal/charcoal and haven't had the free time to make or purchase a decent propane forge. Again, big thanks!

      As far as whats out, "Dayshift" with Jaime Foxx, we did the fire cauldrons in the vampire temple, "The underground railroad" on amazons we did almost all of the hardware work, cages, and manacles. Also a good portion of the farm tools. Several others that Im not allowed to speak about, including some with "luminescent fighting sticks"

    I don't want to be a dick but when you punch the hole for the thumb lever does it not need a hole in it for a pivot pin? Either way great to see you filming this type of stuff again.

    • @purgatoryironworks
      @purgatoryironworks  Před rokem

      That pin is an 1/8th of an inch, way easier to drill that than to punch it. Since this isn't a purely historical build, we hit it with the press

    I thought those were called a Suffolk latch.

    • @purgatoryironworks
      @purgatoryironworks  Před rokem

      Ive seen the term Suffolk and Norfolk used interchangeably but there is a difference. It -seems- from a few phone calls that the norfolk latch was the updated version of the suffolk, mainly that the norfolk was mounted to a backplate and the suffolk was not. If this is the case, I misspoke in the video. Good Catch

      @@purgatoryironworks wasn't trying to "gotcha" or anything. Thought it might have been what southerners named them.
      Now I want to see a comparison between the two designs.
