My favorite
Wtf?
Favorite RIP Jeff B. Forever!!!
That bassline go crazy 💯 Her voice is so sweet and soothing
What an amazing voice, extraordinarily delightful, comforting & powerful. Thank you for sharing!
It’s so cool to hear the song stripped down to just her vocals and bass line. I obviously love the full version, but hearing it this way gives me a whole new appreciation for it. Her line is so smooth and connected that you don’t really miss the rest of the band. Incredible musicianship!
Why does this sound more like politeness than praise? Can we be polite AND serious? This wasn't awful...but it was hardly great or "connected".
I’m not sure what you mean when you say it’s not connected, but I’ll rephrase my comment. Part of what makes a bass line so great is it’s fluidity- perhaps that’s a better word to use than connectedness. The notes run into each other smoothly, so there’s never an absence of sound. It’s one of those concepts that seem so simple in theory, but when executed well, make all the difference. This is especially true when the bassist is really playing multiple roles at once. In this case, Tal didn’t have a rhythm guitar or drummer to assist, so all of the weight was on the bass line.
@@mandymawson9121 - Well put. I suppose I should also modify my comment by saying that I have always found some instruments to be unlistenable as solos (including drum solos that often seem to be more athletic than musical). These instruments are, in my opinion, more suited to a role in the background of a musical ensemble.
The “disconnect” comes from when most listeners cannot really HEAR the bass unless their audio system can adequately reproduce the sound…especially on their cell-phones. All I heard was her voice (a beautiful voice) with this SLAPPING sound in the background.
I also think during this kind of solo, some folks are too polite (or embarrassed) to say anything negative about the artist trying to do something nice…but fail. For myself (and I might be in the minority) I often imagine an operatic Mozart piece with only the bass line! How can I not say something negative?
She’s the chosen one.
Beautiful, haunting!
Tal is so good, it's nice to see more of her these days, I first saw her play with Jeff Beck, and been a big fan ever since, she has a real genuine energy that is all her own. Bassists don't generally get much love but I can't imagine Tal has that problem.
Does anyone else immediately get Alice In Chains vibes?
Big time
Now that you mention it, very much. Can hear the harmonies easily too.
Alice in chains vibes, Alanis vocal mood and Kurt 's In Utero dark lyrics
Imho Tal is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen... Looks, talent, and class all rolled into that statement.
So incredible, I have been watching her career and love seeing her go from being an amazing bass player to an unbelievable composer. Great podcast Lex!!
I know and love Tal for about one month and I think this is so far my favorite and mosted played song. I hope she never stops creating songs with deeper lyrics, advanced chords and interesting rhythms even if modern pop music seems to dictate "easy listening". And I really hope I will have the opportunity to see her live some time!
Stunning, took my breath away, (never heard of Tal till just now)
Wow!!! great song, bass line and voice!!!
One of my favorite bassists!
Superb. What a talent.
“This fight keeps me tied to the worst in me.” ❤
Love you Tal, you sound good 😘
Love this, love Tal!!!
It does sound good. Not for novice ears tuned to pop and not an easy style to perform.
I like how she sings in tune.
As well-deserved as her status is as one of the world's best bassists, I still feel that her talent as a songwriter/composer/lyricist/singer/frontwoman is even greater. Tal Wilkenfeld is a genius. A virtuoso instrumentalist who could be a pop star (in the best sense of that much maligned term). She's the kind of music star the world needs. Just sayin'.
❤ it!!!
wow
Haven't seen her in a while
Sexy bass and love the singing. Thanks for intro to new people, Lex.
Not many people could pull that off
This reminds me a lot of Patricia Barber. I wonder if Tal is a fan?
That is nice singing
Bass needs a little more volume. Just a little.
That is kind of hot!
Great 🔥🔥
The actual music video is so different.
Of course it is, she doesn't have a full band with her
And artistic fluidity is part of her musical ability.
Sorry. I cannot imagine being accompanied by a solo bass, even if her voice is spectacular. Much like sandblocks and tamourine, the bass is a support instrument. Ironically...this song is KILLING ME!
Reading dictionary vibes :-/
😏
She broke him
