      "A katana"
No. Katanas are not somehow magically sharp. This razor blade is going to be sharper than just about any katana. And most katanas feature a relatively common saber/"scandi" flat grind, although sometimes a compound bevel edge. So... if you want to know what a katana edge looks like, buy a $15 Scandinavian Mora knife that is high carbon steel, sharpen and strop it, and look at it. Because the very edge apex, what you're actually cutting with, is going to be almost the same as most katanas. It's not like as soon as you curve the blade a bit and put some Japanese kanji on it and talk about cherry blossoms that the thing somehow becomes a lightsaber that can cut through tanks and machine gun barrels and deflect bullets and cut mountains in half.

This opens up a very interesting option for your content: You can take a piece of good knife steel that you have access to a lot of... then literally do microscopic comparisons to the scratch depth/density/ polish level and actual grit size of different stones... Debunk some myths, like: Do the Garnet/Noviculite /Coticule/ Quarried japanese waterstones really give as good an edge as the finest manmade stones ? Do those natural stones produce smaller and smaller grit sizes as they develop a slurry while working ?? Do oils/ water/ water additives produce better results ? how much polish are you really getting from your strops/ pastes ?? Test the 4 different Arkansas stones against each other ?? OMG!!. The possibilities are ENDLESS !!!

Maybe like 8CR13 vs S30V or M390 or something? Just an idea. My friends can't seem to understand why I would ever spend over $100 on a knife when they can get one for $10.

Might be interesting to get a closer look at the surfaces used to do the sharpening as well. Different stone types, etc. Compare the ceramic cup bottom to a proper stone and ceramic sharpener, synthetic diamond stone, or would a ceramic tile with a smooth unfinished back work, etc. How does a strop look before and after prepping it, and when it picks up blade material? Those may tell some things as much as the blades do, if given the magnification view.

Thanks for this! Informative to see what a new and a worn edge look like. Just getting into knifemaking, so this is WAY useful!

Hey buddy, your content is amazing and you are an expert sharpener.
Here in Brazil, where I am from, sharpening cuticle pliers is a big thing. It is a job done by people, generally, without much technical knowledge and using a file. Although it seems simple it is a work full of details, which, if neglected, result in a bad result.
It would be interesting to see you making a video about it.
