A lot of geniuses seek validation. You don't have to be unintelligent to be insecure, be narcissistic, be competitive, or seek validation. And you don't have to be a genius in all areas to be a genius in one. A genius in math can still be emotionally immature or socially stunted. He doesn't have to be, but he can be. Him being a genius in math doesn't effect that.

Your argument is not very good. Almost every person considered a genius (with the exclusion of Kanye of course) is/was recognized and validated by others. Only seen about 6 or so episodes, and a handful of clips, of this show. But that is what I want to say almost every time Zoey opens her mouth.
So over this trend of shows where their lead character is the worst. And not even in a fun way like some shows manage to pull off.
I quite like this show, but I wholeheartedly agree. Half of the time I watch, I wonder why Zoey doesn't just piss off and let us watch the other characters instead.

She has written many of her songs or at least co-written, and this dates back to her Destiny’s Child era. Plus, you can be a genius in various fields as an artist. She’s a genius when it comes to directing her production, when it comes to improvising melodies and harmonizations, when it comes to performing and retaining undivided attention of a crowd, etc etc.
