- In this video I demonstrate the easiest way to remove a the ignition barrel on a 2009 Renault Clio I ended up getting a replacement barrel and matching key from the scrap yard for £20 and swapping the key blade in the fob because a repair would of been upwards of a week and around £130 for more content go over to my Instagram page @ manlikeliammechanics please like comment and subscribe
Thanks for the tip. Worked saving me removing steering column. Replaced original safety bolt with a hex M6 10mm long, enough space to tighten it. Well done
Same did I!
it took me 5 -10 minutes. Thanks for this video. Perfect help.
Thank you Man Like Liam. Тhe same is true for Renault Modus. You saved me money and time. God bless you!

Nice one I reckon it’s gonna be same on my van, only problem is keys were lost, had a guy make a key but he drilled the lock from front took all the gubbins out and said now just change barrel I can start van but starting locks on some lock smith he is
Well, I've got an 11 plate Kangoo van and it was exactly same as in the video, so you got a good chance.
thanks man you saved me
You are a big doss thanks
Legend bro got me out of a jam
Amazing thank you
Nice video 👌
i would have loved to see you remove the cover as well as i have this job to do myself with same fault. Also i understand you can replace the spring but i wont know how hard it is to split the unit until i remove it. Thanks for making the video
Perfect, thanks
Nice job
Got one to do on a kangoo van..... looks identical..... how did you get the transponder ring off? Just pull off?
شكرا اخي ربي يحفظك
Merci mon frère
Thank you🤗
Really helpfull video thank you! Could you leave a short explenation about how a new lock barrel would be effected with keys electrics etc? Would new barrel come with its own code to new key etc/ seperate key for doors / then ignition! Great short video 👍👍👍👍
You can just remove the metal part of the key from the key body. It is just held in with a screw. I don't think changing the ignition switch affects the central locking but I could be wrong....
great,I think I should manage :) Question: my cylinder, in a Renault Fluence , moves too freely, is that safety pin also holding the whole thing tight in place? when I sort of hold the cylinder steady/keep it tight in place with one finger, I seem to get the key out of the lock much more fluently. No restrictions then. Also: a little push to the key befor extracting it seems to make some difference.Starting etc is not my problem, just insert key and it then goes easily through all the moves, only hassle is to get the key out of the wobbly cylinder!
first class video-that bolt on top was a nightmare to remove-why dont renault put ordinary bolt in? could figure how barrell removed until i saw key has to be put to position 2-thanks again
Top fella I'd buy you a beer if I met you.
Thanks. Tried this on my Kangoo Van. Unfortunately the security bolt on the kangoo is recessed so the chisel method didn't work. I managed to put a cut across the bolt head using a dremel. Screwdriver head in a ratchet handle and it came out no problem. Otherwise exactly the same.
SUPER!!
Soon as I heard the accent just expected the car to on bricks wheels gone 😆👍🏻 jokes aside great vid very helpful
Cheers fella, av got one to do for the wifes car.
Thanks for the instruction, the garage wanted £180 min for this, I bought a switch for 18 on EBay followed the detailed instruction of your Vid took 30 minutes from start to finish. Thanks your a STAR.
Hi great video I've been told you cant just replace the barrel because of the steering lock needs changing surely that's not true please help
Thanks
How can you remove it if the key is stuck and won’t turn at all?
Cheers mate
Mine is the key is stuck any idea how to remove the key in renault master van .
I like your accent
I have the same problem as you but in my case the steering lock is inserted and the key does not turn, I can change it by simply drilling the pin that you move by turning the key or I have to tamper with something else too
Yes, I have the same problem. Did you drill it out?
after that do you need a recode for the key? , for example if i order one from ebay .
thanks
No, key is programmed to uch computer, barrel is just a mechanical thing
Hi i av a renault clio 06 iv been told my original key may have chip that starts the car?? If i change ignition barrel do i need to change the locks aswell and get new key sycd with car or can i just change barrel but av 2 keys getting told about the chips in them so a bit confused before i change it???
chris wakes hi there yes the key fob is linked to the car via the immobiliser and the central locking. If you are changing just the ignition barrel you will be fine but you will have two keys like you say so what I done was bought a matching ignition barrel and key and swapped that key blade itself into the original key /fob and that solves the issue of having to carry and use two different keys to get into it and then to start it. So therefore the car can still read the fob and the new blade matches the ignition. Don’t forget to keep the original key blade
can you not put the old keys electronics in the new key??
What if you don't have the key? I'm trying to extract my ignition so I can have a locksmith cut me a new key, but the steering has locked and I can't turn the ignition to position two.
Thanks.
I have the same problem. Did you handle the ignition switch?
@@annamaja25 I found the key in a field, thankfully. So I was able to just start the car. I think you would have to use the barrel in the car door to cut a key, then use the key to turn the ignition.
My barrel has locked up and won't switch to position 2 and 3 (ignition then start up ) I think I will just have to drill through that saftey pin ans just replace it with a long bolt once my new ignition arrives.
Got to do this on my Dacia Logan MCV after the return spring broke.
How did you get on with yours?mines just gone on my logan?
When you change the key switch do you have to program it again?
No need program but you just need to took the new key in the old key
Put the new key that you will receive with the new ignition on the old shell where there is the chip
yes only way i could get it out was same as video-i replaced it with just an ordinary bolt which will be easy to get out if ever needed again-----dont know how renult fitted one in car as there is no head on it but i suspect this is to stop people like myself working on it and u have to take it to garage-10 out of 10 for video
How do I replace ot
I am to Thank you, without you I d be still stuck at watching the barrel from beneath. I own a Dacia Logan MCVII
My pin doesn't want to release and push down even after removing the bolt
Okay great, but what if you can't turn the key?
I couldn't turn the key. After vigorous wiggle it turned.
If you can't turn the key i can only think either to drill out the push button from the bottom (should be tight space but enough) , or removing the steering column and drill out both parts on a bench
Hallo, Mein Zündschlüssel hakt manchmal beim drehen in meinem Dacia Sandero. Woran kann das liegen und was kann ich machen?
Mfg
Günter Franke
Brilliant! I got the security nut out but because my key doesn't turn in the lock i cant turn it to the desired position be able to depress the stupid pin! Aaarrgghh
I have the mm worries have you found the solution ??
I bought a Dremel and cut the top off the button....thanks
If you cannot turn the key in the barrel you will need to cut or grind the top off the release button with a grinding tool such as a Dremel. Then the whole ignition mechanism will slot out.
Ensure that the security screw hole has a thread. If not, screw the security bolt into the hole before you re-assemble the unit as it will be easier to tighten once the unit is in place. My replacement unit did not have a screw thread where the security screw fits in to. It's aluminium.

Don’t suppose you know how with out the key lost the keys
