Yes indeed. I was working in a lodger unit at RAE when this aircraft had an engine failure on takeoff and crashed back onto the runway. Both the crew punched out safely as I recall. But it did indeed lead to that fresh tarmac on the runway as recalled by @robertkeddle
I used to fly gliders at RAE in the early eighties. One day I noticed a large patch of fresh tarmac on the main runway - I think of this every time I see a picture of XE531 😢
