    My favourite thing about the Solars is how comfortable they are and how much they "want you to play them", more so than some 'higher quality' guitars, I find - which is sick for the day-in day-out vibe.
    Also, there's a decent jump in quality between the 2.whatever series and the 1.whatever series. My 2.6 is sick, especially for the price - but I genuinely fucking love my 1.6 - weighs a bit more, locking tuners, hipshot bridge. Just feels more solid.

    The Solar definitely has that thick, saturated sound like you'd expect from something designed more for death and thrash metal. Not quite as clear but a lot beefier and more aggressive, to me. It'd be right at home playing some Bloodbath, At The Gates, or Pantera, as you'd expect from Ola. Many people work one, two, and often three jobs, but still can't afford things like guitars.

    The Mayones definitely has the attack that the Solar doesn’t. I’m not sure if that’s a wood thing, a pick up thing, or a combination of the two. That being said, I had the pleasure of playing a Mayones a few years back and I can say that it is one of the most stunning guitars that money can buy. I prefer the sound of the Mayones since I prefer my guitars to have more attack, but, for its price, the Solar sounds great.

Why get a model without the features you want when they are available, then nitpick the lack of those features. I am not trying to sound negative, but it's a silly point to approach a review from. This isn't 'how Solar guitars sound', it's how that model Solar sounds.

      @@matthewbratton5003 He clarified that (it's easy to miss a description watching on a phone), but my point was more that the video is titled "How do Solar Guitars sound and play?". It's actually "how this model plays". If he wanted to compare it to guitars using a different construction, Solar does offer other woods and that should be mentioned. The other models also address some of the cons like a lack of locking tuners. If you are going to do a 'review' then those points should be addressed so that things aren't seen in the context of a 'con' of the brand. It was just a suggestion, which he acknowledged in a reply to me.

    Just fyi there's no such thing as a "tonewood" there is only wood density. I did 3 years carpentry at college. I have done wood work. Trust me, I know a thing or 2 about wood. It's simple, you can make the guitar body out of anything, even blended paper mashe", the best tonality will come from a heavy, dense hard wood. If you want lighter tones use a softwood like Californian red wood or basswood. Personally id have a custom guitar made out of 3 piece Oak

      You have no idea how grateful I am to only have to dive a few scrolls down the comments before I stumbled on a remark addressing the garbage about how specific wood types GREATLY influence the tone of an electric guitar! Seriously... While I don't 100% claim wood material has absolutely no effect on timbre (as you stated, it all really boils down to density), whatever effects that different kinds of wood do have is relatively negligible (especially when compared to the type of pickups are installed), and falls glaringly low on the list of factors that significantly influence an electric guitar's tone! While I have nothing but respect for the uploader's experience and knowledge of guitars, I would like to hear about an instance when someone deliberately handed a 'tonewood advocate' a guitar made of one of their least preferred wood types, but were instead informed that the material was something the player favored, only for the 'real' wood class be revealed after they played and listened while under the impression it was the contrary! The ironic solution to squelch this glorified myth is to trick players in order to let them in on the fact that they were intitally tricked. either by the community or themselves, into believing something as asinine as subscribing to the notion that all males will eventually lose their eyesight if they frequently take trips to 'Palm Springs'! The entire hype completely falls under the likes of a huge self fulfilling prophecy, and it's disappointing seeing seemingly talented, skilled, and otherwise intelligent players fall victim to such a widely promulgated fallacy. Anyways, I appreciate someone of your education and experience to be the voice of reason (and opposition) for there's little room to argue with an individual who specializes in this domain!

      @tylerwmbass Před 4 lety +1

      @@greekfreak1980 Most relevant 'tonewood' discussion I can think of is fingerboards for fretless bass guitars, where the strings are vibrating directly against the fingerboard. Otherwise, bridge, fret material, pickups, strings all contribute way more to tone.

    • @joshstead6078
      @joshstead6078 Před 4 lety +1

      I also always have to think about that the fact that your pickups aren't picking up sound from the wood, only the strings. That's the whole point of using magnetic strings. Therefore the only way the wood can affect the tone is if the sympathetic vibrations that run through the bridge, nut, and tuners and into the wood in-turn affect the vibrations of the strings. Or, if the vibration of the wood vibrates the pickup itself, causing noise.
      Unfortunately, I haven't really seen testing on these things and so it's mostly left down to theory-crafting.
