I think he meant what he said: Craig Hawker is a sharing person. Meaning he is collaborative - he shares ideas, shares credit, and otherwise acknowledges group or partnership effort. This contrasts with a person who claims sole ownership or inventor ship, etc. A lot of academics are âsharing peopleâ in this sense.
Ahhhhh that makes sense too
@@AbbeyYung that makes sense only lol
Yes, if you are a prof and care about your students, then you try to help them by bringing them onto products and giving them credit as academia is a super competitive world.
I agree!
That was what I got out of it, too!
As someone who did Biochemistry Research in a different lab at UCSB, I can say that the Dean Christal email is SUS. Even the post you showed I donât think Eric is claiming to be âsole inventorâ. Furthermore, when you read the email aloud the last sentence of the first paragraph you added a word (this was to make the sentence grammatically correct and I donât blame you for it lol). Dean says âEric testified under oath that Craig was inventor of Olaplexâ. but you added âtheâ before inventor because grammatically there should be an article there. Craig was not /the/ inventor of olaplex, he was /an/ inventor of olaplex. I feel like the fact that he left out the article deeply suspicious because, like you did when reading it, people default to âtheâ which implies Craig is the sole inventor, and he isnât.
Overall, everyone whoâs in chemistry/biochemistry academic research knows that unless theyâre really new to the field, the P.I. is not doing any of the bench work or research to create the product. They write grants for funding and they provide guidance, but they donât do the actual work. Eric did all of the actual experimentation to develop olaplex, and had to share credit with Craig because thatâs how working under a PI works. He wouldnât have had the equipment or resources to do the research if he werenât in the hawker lab.
Just adding my two cents here. A close relative recently earned her PhD in bio chemistry. It is pretty clear watching the process that the students do the majority of the work inventing new technology and testing it in countless lab experiments.while the professor oversees and gives guidance. If it is successful. I think itâs pretty typical for the professor to receive most or all of the credit especially when it comes to publishing in peer review journals and patents. Basically I believe it was probably a collaborative effort when it comes to the original Ola Plex
This is such an interesting point!!!
I can 100% back up this comment with my husband in a PhD program right now đ
Congratulations on your PhD
Absolutely- current PhD student and grad schools would collapse if their pool of expert cheap labor dried up
Youâre not wrong. University considers it intellectual property in some cases.
I am glad to see more and different products coming out for hair repair. The competition can only be good for increasing the standard and bringing down our cost. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.
Yes. Charging that kind of money for the amount they pay to make it, makes me not want to buy it out of spite lol lol Especially since we canât buy the product that was the first to be released, the product I wanted then and I still want lol. the #1 bond multiplier, the one you use with your lightener/bleach lol. To stop your hair from breaking. Why would I want to break my hair THEN repair it lol. You can still only buy it if you are a licensed hairdresser. As much as I would love to go to a hairdresser that uses it. I canât Really afford too and even more important every time I have gone to a good Salon it hasnât turned out the way I want. (Spending $300 plus) My hair is quite difficult. I always leave with pieces being platinum and others being a more grey color, and I donât have grey hair lol even at my age. Lol. I just know my hair better after 30 years of dying myself, what part needs bleaching longer, and what part needs less time for toner đ . Not that Iâm so great lol. Just Trial and error. Lol.
They must have promised hairdressers that they will always be the only ones to be able to buy it. So they donât loose clients. Iâm guessing.
I just donât understand why people would use anything other than K18(I always follow it with conditioner after it sits for 4 minutes or more). It builds the whole hair bond, not just part of it. Itâs one product so you donât have to bother with a bunch of other stuff.
Def donât care about the politics! Your questions are fair⊠but Olaplex went for the money and developed BS extras so happy to use this brand along with K 18â€
*THE TEA!* I never couldâve imagined the fascinating intricacies of drama underlying this sort of story, but then again, business, invention, science, and consumer products are indeed all extensions of the human mind, and with that comes inherent human drama!
Great coverage as always, Abbey. Very much appreciate you and your channel and have been learning more about my hair (and the science of it) via your work. _Thank you._
Right?! So interesting. Thanks for watching â€ïž
I bought the entire Olaplex line 4 years ago and it only marginally improved my platinum blonde hair. The Redken Acidic Bonding line completely changed my hair in a way no other line has done. Have added the K18 product and my hair has never been better. Thanks so much for testing these out for us all
Hey Jan, out of curiosity, do you use the whole acidic bonding line all together ? Iâm looking to add the intensive treatment into my routine but itâs been so hard to find that product where I live.
@@misskyys I do use the Redken Acidic Bonding intensive treatment. Right now Ulta has a kit where you get that plus the leave in conditioner for free when you buy the shampoo and conditioner. Plus they had a coupon
Redken ABC has been great for me
Oh wow ok going to try redkin then and k18.
THE DRAMA OF ALL THIS IS FASCINATING and i love how you dove and introduced us to that as well. Fantastic content as always
Soo interesting! Thanks for watching â€ïž
I think it's interesting that you fill the bottle with tap water because the mineral content in tap water differs from region to region. I wonder if the existence of certain minerals, or lack thereof, in someone's tap water could impact how the product performs? Maybe filling the bottle with distilled water would be the best option.
Sure, I understand your logic. However Olaplex also recommends wetting the hair prior to use, for me thatâs using my shower head, the same water youâd fill the Epres spray bottle with so Iâm not sure it actually matters. Just another way of looking at it.
You do have a point, I live in Cyprus which has very hard water, and it's bad for hair and creates build up. I wonder if it would affect how it works
@@erin7241 Not really the same as the water you usedfrom your shower doesn't sit in a bottle for 2 months, which is the projected amount of time you can keep Epres in the fridge after mixing. Tap water has stuff in it that will grow bacteria where as distilled water does not, which is why hair products are made with distilled water and not tap water. It is very possible distilled water will make a difference.
they tested EPRES IS ALL TYPES OF WATER and the water quality has ZERO effect on how eprers works, it is oil-based not water-based and acid-free.
@@Eagle4Change This makes little sense ... If Epres is oil based, then why is water being added - the product and water would separate in the spray bottle and need to be thoroughly mixed (beyond customer shaking) before every use.
In addition, denatured alcohol is not an oil-based ingredient. [I would need to go back to my books to see if the other ingredients are oil or water based.]
"Acid free" is a marketing term ... anything with any watery component will have a pH, meaning it has some leel of acidity (or alkalinity). Water has a pH. Hair is already slightly acid, and anything too alkaline will damage hair ... just saying "acid free" does not tell us if the pH of the product is good for the hair.
FYI, I'm an amateur cosmetic chemist. What's your background?
I bought Epres, and this is my second time using it. Itâs so moisturizing for me! Plus they wrote a little thank you note on my invoice. I thought that was sweet â€
Thanks for the update Abbey! I canât wait for the full review in a couple months! â€
Hello Abbie, I love your channel and I have learned so much about my hair through your teachings. I started using Epres this past Sunday . I have never used anything for bonding repair for my hair. So far I love the result. My hair is soft, shiny, healthier. For reference, I have fine, brittle hair with highlights and dye.
Your hair looks so good styled this way!!!!!!! Love all your content. I donât have damaged hair yet still hang on your every word!!!
Canât wait for the results. Definitely interested in purchasing since itâs much more affordable compared to K18
Your hair is so pretty, I feel like you did did something different! Also I'm excited to know your results without using k18!
Your hair looks amazing all the time but it looks even more WOW now. I decided to order the Epres this morning. I signed up for email notifications and got free shipping ($7 off). I just purchased the refill kit since I already own a spray bottle that looks identical to theirs. I've been using Olaplex for the past few months and while I love it, it would be nice to have something less time consuming. I also like that Epres can be airborne, unlike Olaplex. Thank you so much for your deep dive into all of this. You're the best! Oh yes! I forgot to add that it's already shipped!
Im intrigued for sure Iâm excited to try it out, I hope it hits salon supply stores đđŒ
super curious for your long term results!! canât wait to see
This was so interesting! I appreciate how thorough you are.
Thanks girl đ„°
its been a ritual for me to watch your videos every time you upload when im doing my routine in the morning âșïž loved the vid, i dont even use olaplex or any bond repair but here for the drama, especially hearing the overall business/law side of it
Loved this Abbey!!! Canât wait for the update
very much looking foward to the two month update - thanks!
Thanks for the info and the TEA! Your hair looks amazing in this video BTW!
Great investigative work Abby!! Love your channel keep up the great work đ
Omg I was not expecting a side of tea with this review đ I'm here for it though
excited to hear your 2 month reviewâŠyouâre so thoroughâŠthanks from hairdresserâs everywhere
Just bought this, but I also have purchased K18. We will see! Thank you for doing these videos for everyone!
Hair tutorial for these waves please!! Your hair looks so good!
Did you continue to use k18 in your wash routine while testing this or did you remove that step for this test? Love your videos, you are completely changing the way I treat my poor hair!
Oh my, what a fun video! Love me some industry gossip. đ Also, your hair looks freaking amazeballs here! I mean your hair always looks lovely, but it definitely looks healthier and fuller at the time of this video being filmed.
If I could replace my two step Olaplex and k18 alternating schedule with just one product Iâd be sorely tempted to try it. I look forward to you sharing your thoughts on this in the future.
Thanks for this video, I'll have to test it out! Your color is looking so good lately more natural fits your complexion so well. Also I'd love if you could review bioprogramming, they have both bleach that cause no damage and is healing according to their founder, as well as heat tools and blowdryer that makes your hair better to more you use it very fascinating, It recently hit the market in America and lots of hair stylist have started to use it đ„°
Thank you Abbey Iâve been waiting for thisđ€©
DETECTIVE ABBEY!!!! â€â€â€ I love how you dive so deeply into this! Iâd love to know how it stacks up to K18 or the living proof too!
Is it silicone free?
It just repairs bonds or actually rebuilds the hair?
Anything that causes it to stop working?
What if we get caught in the rain? Sounds weird but đ
How do we ensure our hair is saturated enough?
Love you abbey!!!! đđđ
Wow, fascinating story! Thanks for sharing it in a very balanced way, Abbey. I have been using Olaplex, hadn't heard of this brand, but it does make me think twice before buying from a brand whose ethics I question.
Another excellent video! You've definitely become my hair guru! I can't wait for the follow-up ^_^
Iâve used Epres twice and my hair is so soft!! K18 and Olaplex have never been able to make my hair this soft!
Ive been waiting for someone to post a video about this new brand
Amazing! Thank you Abbey! đ I was wondering whether you could do a review of the two different K18 masks? I've read the ingredient lists but don't really understand why they're different. So the K18 Leave-in Molecular Repair Hair Mask and the K18 Professional Molecular Repair Hair Mask, which I guess is for salon use but much cheaper? And then maybe also the K18 Professional Molecular Repair Hair Mist? Would love to see that! đ
I love watching your videos. I'm especially interested in your content on hair care. You're hair is so beautiful and that could be problematic when you're testing out how well hair products repair and improve hair. Not a terrible problem to have of course but it can make a test and reveal experiment a little difficult as results will be mild since its hard to show any drastic improvement on already gorgeous hair. I'm wondering if you've considered using volunteer models with less fortunate hair quality to help show the effects of various products. Of course I love that you use the products yourself and report on the experience because you're obviously pretty knowledgeable and your input wouldn't be complete without first hand account. I just feel from the viewpoint of someone with horribly straw-like hair ends (the result of bleaching followed by a recent amd unfortunate hair curling mishap), I feel like seeing transformation from brittle and damaged to soft and repaired would be more telling. Again, I love your content and I'm hopeful that some of your hair journey suggestions will help my once soft and sleek hair return to its former state some day. Keep the awesome videos coming! đđ
I love olaplex so Iâm quite interested to see if this is truly better than the original. Definitely looking forward to trying it †itâs insane you for an email from the actual founder of Olaplex
Hope you love it if you try! And right đ
Wouldnât trust the brand with the amount of blatant lying for profit and refuse to spend my hard earned money on a liars word.
Your hair looks great in this video!
Your hair looks so beautiful and healthy!
First I'm hearing of this stuff and I haven't even tried the K18 yet! I have been on a journey to find the best products for my hair; however, I am not a person who loves to constantly change and I now use nothing I've been using for years except for when I found Olaplex a couple years ago. I am accepting of this as I am transitioning to gray anyway so it seems like the right time and also it's a good time as these new products actually seem to do what they SAY they do! But eventually I hope to land on a regimen that just falls into routine.
I LOVE how you comunicate
I think I'm going to stick to my K18/Olaplex routine until I hear your final thoughts. I am obsessed with my current routine, but this sounds like something I might like to add or possibly replace my Olaplex. Thanks, Abbey!!
me too :)
Whatâs your current routine? â€
How do you cycle your k18/olaplex routine?
Living proof is better than both of those products put together
good luck
Thank u SO MUCH Abbie for all the time & effort u put into ur videos! If budget's an issue, can I just use K18 mask w my regular shamp/cond? Any stores/sales u recommend for buying it? Thank u!! đ„°đđ
Well you may not be convinced yet about Epres, but your hair looked particularly great today! I am intrigued by this product because I can do all my usual post wash things, whereas with the others, I couldn't do my post wash mask or leave ins and I have never been as happy with my hair on those days.
Youâre a queen! Thanks for the review â€
Let us know a follow up Abby!
YOUR HAIR!! I love the way you styled it!! What method was this style?
I love your hair style in this video !
I've never used any of the bond building products because I don't color my hair and only use the most minimal heat styling tools. I do have naturally wavy/curly hair and am getting a few grays. I'm really curious if something like this would make any difference on my textured, dry, somewhat frizzy but not really damaged hair? The drama is what it is and I'll be interested to see how it plays out đ€đ€š Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you for this video so interested to try this new product
Just ordered using youâre link!!
I love your color hair this way!!
Hiiii Abbey! I just finished using the 1st vial yesterday, and since I use all your product suggestions, I really don't know if it is the combination of several good products or is it EPRES? I think the same thing will happen to many of your followers, there are times when I use Epres and after the shampoo I apply K18, most of the time I use the living proof bond repair because I really like to use conditioner and mask, which according to the indications of k18 there is no need to use conditioner and mask because the product should stay in your hair, i saw better results with this mechanism. Thank you for all the excellent and high quality content! we can see the love and passion and that is priceless! a big hug from the heart of South America
I feel like people still involved in Olaplex are personalizing this. He never said sole inventor or ever stated he did it completely alone. I thought people would have enough common sense to know in any area of the beauty industry nothing is created by one singular person. The things he states were true, and Olaplex is probably reasonably threatened and upset that heâs decide to take his knowledge put into their product and amplified it.
Youâre glowing btw đ
I just got mine in the mail and really like it so far, but itâs just been a few hours on my hair. I didnât feel like olaplex was worth the hype. Too many steps and products. Thatâs why my hair stylist stopped using it. Iâll definitely tell her about epres. Hoping epres comes out with a shampoo and conditioner too!
Abby, Which shampoo and conditioner did you use after Epres?
always great useful videos, love the hair ........what did you to get it that way this day......texture spray?
Love your videos!!
Not a fan of k18⊠I feel like it over proteinized my hair which made it brittle and fall out⊠never had that issue with Olaplex but now wondering what this would doâŠ? đ€
Questions for Epres:
So Iâm confused.. I saw you spray Epres on dry hair⊠is that right?
Clean dry hair?
Clean damp hair?
Thanks!
Hey Abbey! Would you mind explaining how you use this product? Like on wash day or the night before, how long you leave it in before cleansing, etc. Like do you think you can you spray and leave it in for multiple days before cleansing or is it more like sleep on it and then wash it out in the morning?
I immediately bought after seeing your tik tok!!! I had a couple questions for Epres and they were super responsive. Their most notable answer that I found was you can keep the mixture for up to two months, which is great for people with short hair who may not use the entire mixture in one treatment.
Love love your channel and everything you dođ
thank you for this!! i definitely had leftover and i was hunting everywhere for this answer!
did it make your hair oily? i may have done something wrong because my hair looked like i had oil treated and hadnt washed yet đŹđ€Šââïž
Thank you! Iâve been wondering what to do with leftover product if I have any and how long itâs effective for
@@lynni9621 it definitely looked oily prior to washing, but afterward it seemed fine. I did notice that it appeared to have gotten dirtier faster despite my normal wash routine of washing at least twice. I was disappointed with the results regarding sleekness, because my hair was a bit frizzy afterward. Nothing too major but noticeable by me and my friends. I was optimistic because I normally use the Color Wow Dreamcoat spray after every wash, but this time I didnât to see if: 1.) it really does last through multiple washes. 2.) if Epres would help tame some frizz. Like i said, I was a bit disappointed on both fronts but I did have high expectations for someone who typically only washes once per week.
The way your hair is styled in this video is BEYOND gorgeous! How did you style it??
Iâd be curious to know if this gives better results if you spray it into wet hair. Iâve been trying it out myself and every time I do it I feel like spraying it directly on dry hair prevents it from spreading as much as it could. I also find it hard to believe it would be better to spray on dry hair, when your follicle is closed, than when wet.
Abbey, I'd love to know what you did to your hair color-wise. Looks good!
Have used the Living Proof bond treatment. WOW. Used twice and very pleased.
Have you been hearing or reading up on the Dry Shampoo recall recently in regards to high levels of benzene ? Thoughts ?
This whole fit and makeup and hair style is her LOOK
i would love more info regarding EPRES. i bought it while in states. (They don't carry it in France yet) EPRES is the the easiest of the bond builders to use.
The main ingredient in epres Diethylhexyl Maleate and the other ingredients are contained in many other hair products, it is not new, I don't understand why people say it is patented. This bottle is also overpriced, you can buy bottles like this much cheaper everywhere.
do you think you could do a review of kevin murphy products in the future? i've seen them all over tiktok for healthy hair!
Abbey, thanks for all the information. I do have a question though- since the purity of tap water can be deeply questionable, would purified, spring or distilled water be more beneficial for the EPRES efficacy? I usually don't think about it but where this liquid is mixed at home & sits in the bottle for an elongated period- I worry that some tap water may have a neutralizing effect.
Your hair looks so gorgeous in this video đ
Yes girl drop the hair deets. How did you get this look?
Thank you đ„°
How about the living proof proof product that you talked about earlier, if i have to buy one of those 3 epres k18 or living proof , which one you recommend?
Hi Abbey would u plz review the "give me cosmetics " hair products? The pink packaging line ?
Amazing, thorough review as always! After getting a sample of Olaplex 3, I've been diving into learning about bond repair. SO grateful for all the education you've provided! I've been on the verge of getting K18 (that price point tho...) and now I'm leaning towards trying this first for both price point (though I'm unclear on how price per use stacks against K18) and the ease of use. The need to shampoo before and after Olaplex is a big turnoff.
I feel you on the K18! I've been wanting to try it but the price point - eek!
I have fine hair. I really want to try K18 and now I want to try this too? Should I wait Abby until you try it? I have fine hair like you so I wanted your advise.
Itâs weird that while the epres website explains why itâs better than Olaplex, it doesnât go into how it works. You usually see higher end bond building products have the tech heavily marketed.
Very good point!
How often should you use it? With K18 you use it for 6 weeks in a row then sparingly, similar with Olaplex. How does Epres compare with the frequency vs price?
Here for the tea đđ”
Abbeeeeey! Please review the Coco and Eve bond building pre-shampoo treatment. Itâs $25 for 4.2 oz
Can you do a video on the hair growth oil Revela???? I'm dying to know your opinion!
I just yesterday bought my first olaplex đ I haven't yet tried k18 as well so I feel there is a long time before I get to this new one... Hope they resolve the drama till then đ
Yay i just asked for this video and here it is. Thanks abbey you never disappoint đ
Thanks for watching đ
You hair is đ„ today!!! What did you do differently!?! #hairgoals
I just found out Herbal Essences advertises their products (especially their bio:renew line) as pH balanced. I found a website that tested their pH levels and they seemed to be quite low (some between 3.5-4). I would be interested to see what you think of this line as a potentially good drugstore option for shampoo and conditioner! đ
I found their Argan Oil bio:renew on several "Best Low pH Shampoos" list and started using it two weeks ago when I started Abbey's method. So far, so good! VERY rich lather, even with long hair I only have to use a small amount.
Amazing!! Need to try
â°k
L0kn
The MSDS of their products can be found on the smartlabel website, which includes info on the pH. For example, the Bio:renew White Grapefruit and Mint shampoo has a range of 4 - 5.4 and the conditioner has a range of 3.4 - 5 đ
Thanks abbey! I just purchased the k 19 and am trying Friday. I luckily bought their clarifying shampoo also . So my question to â apresâ would be do I need to use a clarifying every time , and if so, which brand do they suggest? Or are they releasing a clarifying shampoo soon, to make this more of a 2 step deal ??
Stay warm, we just finally got Fall here, but am wondering about snow in Chicago?? Stay safe.
Iâll definitely ask this! No snow yet here- itâs 65 and sunny today!
Eric Pressley has NEVER said he was the sole inventor of olaplex, Eric has ALWAYS told me he co-invented olaplex.
Sally Beauty came out with their own line of Olaplex and would love if you did a comparison video!
No lol not a version of Olaplex lol just another "COPY"
I want to know if it helps with gray hair issues (no damage from color bleach or other treatments except minimal heat). Olaplex has helped smooth the texture of my hair, which went from minimal frizz to 'what the hell happened to my hair' frizz.
My order should hopefully be here tomorrow. I like Olaplex but dislike the application process. Iâm hoping this will work just as well or better.
I wonder if you can use your own spray bottle and if it matters if you use filtered water or not.
Question: after you mix the solution with water, how long can it stay in the container? Meaning, if you haven't used up an entire mix, can you just keep it in the container for the next use or does it somehow expire, evaporate over time? And if you can store it, does it need to have some sort of temperature conditions, like store it in the fridge or just room temp.?
Was wondering this myself
I was wondering this too, could get different results with tap water minerals and water hardness, I wonder if theyâd say use distilled?
I was wondering this too. Someone in the comments said they reached out to Epres and Epres said it will stay good for two months after being mixed with water. However, I'm wondering if I could just use half the vial and half the water needed per treatment. That way two vials will last four treatments.
somebody right above said they told her up to 2 months
Iâve tried a few of the newer bond builders (Living Proof Triple Bond Complex being the most recent) and I just donât find them as good as Olaplex. Itâs still the OG for me. I use No 2 (clarify first, No 2, then shampoo out).
What self tan do you have on in this video? It looks great!
I kind of wonder if Epres will evolve to include extra hair products that âmake the treatment work even better.â I mean, thatâs what happened with Olaplex. I think the original treatment was a few steps done in the salon, and the No. 3 for maintenanceâŠthey just keep adding more steps to get more profits. Iâm not convinced that any of those other steps actually improve the way No. 3 worksâŠI think thatâs the way they chose to expand and increase revenue and maintain consumer interest. Is it the only way? I donât know. Maybe it is, especially if they donât funnel some revenue into R&D (and I donât know if they do or not).
Agreed. I have only 2 Olaplex products:
#3 for when my hair feels especially damaged
#8 when I want a rich hair mask instead of conditioner
I use one of these products once a month (every 4-5 shampoos) and it's enough for my hair. I don't feel any need for other Olaplex brand products.
I wonder this as well!
Love your hair in this video! How did you style it?
I would love to know this as well!!! How did you style your hair?
Abbey, have you seen the new bondbar products at Sally's? Each product is only $10 and I'm wondering if they're dupes for Olaplex!
