There's only one reason why Japan is cleaner than most countries. They have their students to clean up their schools since they're at a very young age.
This not only teaches their kids to clean, it also creates a good habit of keeping clean and not litter, because the cleaner their school is, the less mess they have to clean.
And this habit stays with them all their lives, making Japan very neat and tidy and clean.
It's THAT simple. You want your country to be clean, starts making your kids clean.

As an American living in Japan, I agree that Japan is cleaner than the US, but I unfortunately I agree a bit with the conservatives, while it isn’t about race per se, its about the culture. Japan is for the most part, a monocultural society, same as Taiwan that was mentioned. Singapore is a multicultural one, and that’s why their super strict rules have helped them become a super clean and effective society.
In my opinion, given human nature, everyone needs to collectively buy into one main culture either organically, or be legally forced into it.
Like the quote you mentioned, there really isn’t any solution, everything is a trade off.

You clearly only see things from the surface. Underneath Japan, they have the highest depression rate, the work culture there is brutal so mucn so that they glorify high school years as your last moments of happiness. Japan is also struggling from high rates of population decline where there will soon be way more old people than young. You look at Denmark, you get 0 economic mobility and basically born into your social class. Denmark leads the world in theft per 100,000 people based on a 2016 statistic. The household debt in Denmark is 165% of gross disposable income. No country is perfect, but seeing you glorify these countries is hilarious. Oh and god forbid you are a different ethnicity in these countries. There are actually laws banning you from doing certain things such as Japan now allowing foreigners to enter certain establishments or even renting certain properties.

That's the culture in Japan, the government doesn't tell you to do it, but the social pressure is immense, and as such you only have nominal freedom, but you can't actually do those thing you are "technically" allowed to do and still be a respected member of society.

@@TheJadedSkeptic Earthquakes happen in China as well, usually western side, and although the frequency is less than that of Japan’s, by the same token they are also less prepared for it, and you can see that reflected in the massive 6digit death tolls, reaching up to horrifying numbers like 300,000. Nuclear waste is also dumped by China, with even higher number of tritium than Japan, it’s just that the internal affairs are so opaque, ppl just don’t really hear about it. And no, even top tier 1-3 cities are not at the cleanliness level of Japan, even with EV, which I find a tad green washed tbh, air pollution in tier 1-3 cities are so bad you need to wear a 2.5pm mask, and the countryside is dotted with water and soil contamination. This alone stops China from being “end game” not that I think Japan is either, but taking into account other important factors such as human rights, consumer safety, transparency of information, work/life balance, political stability and international relations Japan is the safer alternative of the two for the near future. Don’t get me wrong, I think China is amazing and has immense potential, it already has arguably the best ai sector, fastest and most interconnected delivery network, a big pool of skilled/talented workforce, but it is a country that is still growing, and I think it’ll take more than 20yrs for it to blossom, which is still really fast considering it’s massive size!
