Florence Oregon Sand Dunes & How We Got Our RV Stuck In the Sand

- Exploring the Florence Sand Dunes! In this video, we tell the story of how we got our RV stuck in the sand at the Oregon dunes. This was our first time exploring the Oregon dunes and it was quite the experience.
The Oregon dunes consist of three separate areas, Florence Dunes, Winchester Bay Dunes, and Coos Bay Dunes. We opted for the Florence sand dunes because we had read online that they were the smallest for our trucks and these sand dunes were the closest to Eugene Oregon. We camped at the Siltcoos Sand Caping area which requires a 4x4 and the correct recovery gear. We were fully prepared and still got out RV stuck in the deep sand. Luckily after a little bit of work and using our Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4x4 we were able to make it to our camping location.
We also explore Shore Acres State Park, Sunset Beach Oregon, and the small town of Coos Bay Oregon.

What would you have done in this situation?
Aired down. Way too full of tires. Need like 15 - 20 lbs in truck and trailer. Good to see a video of the place though. thanks,
We did! It was super soft the truck tires were at 15! We didn't bother with the trailer because is was a short distance.
I would get stuck, then try to figure out how to save myself. Been stuck many times. Pismo twice. Big Sur once. Snow many times! That is why I was teasing you! 😂❤️
@@AdventureEndeavor air down more... 8-10 psi in truck and trailer you have to do both and cruise right out there without having to be pulled by the jeep.... been camping there for 30 years. Most people are scared to go that low without beadlocks but its just fine all you are doing is going to camp.
@saddlebag4097 we were pretty low but didn't want to deal with airing down the trailer. I know it would have helped though.
You have to deflate your tires down to like 15 lbs. Probably wouldn't have had any problems getting out into the sand
The truck tires were almost at 10psi, we didn't air down the trailer knowing it was just one mile in. Made for a fun adventure.
Dude, you guys are next level RVers. I would’ve cried or something, getting stuck like that. The Jeep is such a champ!! Awesome vid, saw a few places we recognized!
Haha thank you, we think of ourselves as "not your average RVers". It's all about having the right equipment for recovery, and knowing how to use it. Thanks for watching
Lincoln is so cute!
Thank you! We think so!
I would love to watch you get out of there
There was one clip at the very end. It was actually a lot easier! Thanks for watching.
Bring plywood boards with you always, you can use those to get out
Kind of tough for us to carrry such a large items being fulltime rvers. We had the jeep though! Thanks for watchinig.
Coming from someone that is born and raised in Oregon and still lives in Oregon and goes to the Oregon dunes to sand camp on the regular truck should be 10PSI trailer should be at 12 PSI essentially if you don’t air down your trailer, you are pulling a boat anchor.
Yeah totally agree haha truck was definitely that low. Thought the trailer would be ok considering it was less than 1 mile in lol
Lessons learned! Deflate those trailer tires otherwise you're dragging an anchor. Fun vid. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, any further in and we would have deflated. Thanks for watching
Great video. lucky you had the jeep for sure. Thanks Don
Thanks Don we knew we would need it!
I love this place! We usually stay at the Driftwood two camp ground. Have helped several people get to there campsites. Love the Jeep. I have an 04 LJ.
It's a fun stop for sure! Isn't it strangely fun helping people get unstuck! Thanks for watching!
Florence is my favorite!
We had a great time!
Every time I get in the sand always make sure tires on my truck and toy hauler air Dow 10 psi and not problem at all.
Yeah we didn't air down the trailer considering it was less than one mile in. Made fine with the little tow lol😉
You should go to Moe’s in Newport beach. The best clam chowder in Oregon. Yaquina light house.
Btw my daughter is in Corvallis OR.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video you guys, what a crazy camping spot, I would have been so worried about how we would be making it out of all that sand. PS you guys are in Oregon and the commercial that ran during my watch was for Tillamook which was not too far from where you were. Happy Birthday Cub and Mothers Day Melissa
Glad you enjoyed it! It was quite the adventure!
If you make it up to Tillamook get some cheese. Probably fresher than what I buy at Vons
Did you let air out of the tires of the truck and trailer? Looks like a great spot to camp.
The truck was VERY low on tire psi. We didn't bother with the trailer, probably would have helped it float more though. Thanks for watching
Years of Pismo tells me if you do not air down to 8lbs in every tire just don’t bother. If airing up your tires, blocking a trail and getting un stuck is less work than airing up your tires then (lol) good luck bud.
Truck was aired down, thought the trailer would be ok considering it was less that 1 mile. The sand is much different than Pismo, and this road is no sand hwy lol
Wetting the sand can help get out
We got out fine with the jeep. I imagine it would take a lot of water!
Happy Birthday Lincoln, how has a year gone by so quickly!😊
Thank you! If flew by, it was a great year
Love your videos but Of all people brother you knew you should’ve air down truck and trailer 12psi on truck trailer 25 no weight dist bars
Truck was aired down to about that, we figured it was such a short distance the trailer would have been fine. We eventually realized the Jeep was not engaging in 4x4. Once we got that fixed the road out was super easy.
Oh yeah. Been there done that... Best thing to do is just stop. Use a winch if you have one. You need a tug. Never remove your trailer!
Yup, good times!
So experienced you didn’t let some air out the tires? 😂
All the trucks were aired down. Knowing it was less than one mile in made for more of an adventure, didn't feel like airing down the trailer.
Whatdya you guys do for potable water out there? Fill locally or haul it from "home"?
There's a campground that's about 1 mile away that has free water. We filled the rig and we also have a portable bladder in the bed of the truck.
amzn.to/3IYxdIB
Honeyman state park has potable water and dump station for free
What’s the name of the place ? Were you guys camping?
Can you please share?
We say it in the video multiple times. It's called silt coos, south of Florence
How was it on the way out?
Not bad at all, there was one clip at the very end of the video. We realized the Jeep wasn't shifting into first gear so that helped a lot.
@@AdventureEndeavor You think without the jeep tow it would have been un-doable? Is the trailer loaded down pretty good?
Yeah I think we would have been in big trouble. The jeep was definitely required. There are a lot of normal campgrounds in the area also though.
😂 You we’re going camping in the Sand Dunes but you were surprised there was Sand? 😂😂😂
Sorry for laughing but I have never seen you two do anything remotely dumb before.
We knew there would be sand but typically roads into camp will be more hard packed. That wasn't the case at all
I know. The sand in those dunes is very soft and fine. There is a beach a little further south that is like fine silt.
