It's thrilling to realize that ancient Greeks had their "ancient ancestors" too. We often think the ancient world was dense and mainly represented by the Golden Age of Pericles out of misconception. It's outstanding to think that those Minoan palaces were already in ruins by the time Socrates or Plato lectured their students. In fact, those ruins laid there so many years ago as the time distance that separates us from the Romans. Isn't that fascinating?! I wonder if they knew more about them than we do or if the Dark Ages vanished everything into a mystery with only myths like that of Theseus and the Minotaur surviving...

What you say is very true, we tend to simplify things more often than not. When you think about how long the classical era of Greece lasted, it's only about 180 years, which is far too small when considering the whole of antiquity. The stories of the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations passed down through oral tradition and due to the fact that the Dark Ages lasted for a considerable amount of time, those oral tales were largely distorted and embedded in mythology. Even most of the stories of the Greek Dark Ages are semi-legendary so it's not a surprise. However, some factual knowledge did manage to survive, I would say more from the Mycenaean than the Minoan civilization, mostly due to the timelines and the regions they occupied. Traces of this knowledge can be found in the Iliad. Also, while most of the Minoan buildings were underground (there were probably some traces of the Knossos palace still visible) during the Classical era, the Greeks could still look at the walls of Mycenae, which they themselves called the Cyclopean walls, believing or fancying that they were built by Cyclopes.

I didn’t know that the Minoans had stone-paved roads, their technological achievement was extraordinary. I love your videos, and learning some new details like this.

Yes, the Minoans were generally a very impressive people. Sadly, today they are an often overlooked civilization. Thanks a lot!

I’m hoping that Linear A will be deciphered in my lifetime. A language similar to that used to write Linear A must be found, but that may not be possible. As an island people, their language might have been an isolate. They were great traders, though, maybe a “Rosetta Stone” might be found either on Crete or in the lands they traded with. Similar artifacts, with the same texts repeated in different languages, have been found in other ancient lands, especially those with multi-lingual empires. Hope springs eternal.

It is unfortunate that archaeologists have managed to read Linear A scripts, but we can not understand the language. This is different from the Linear B, as scholars have deciphered it and can also read it, since it is written in a form of Proto-Greek language. I do hope as well that we discover new findings that may help us better understand the Minoans.

Linear A Linear B is a script dating from 2200 BC. only in Greece and in no other region outside the Greek world
We find Linear A Linear B in Central Greece, Peloponnese, Crete and many islands
The language of Linear B is Greek
In the thousands of panels of Linear B, we did not find a single one with a foreign language
In Linear A we do not have many inscriptions to draw firm conclusions
Linear B is a further development of Linear A from it with different grammatical rules from the same people
the hieroglyphs of Crete, the language is also Greek
the Minoan civilization as well as the Mycenaean civilization are anthropocentric civilizations centered on the free man

🎬Thank you for this. What really happened to Crete is known. In 1177 BCE the island did sink and when it resurfaced a wave was generated the ended the entire age, erased 50 civilizations and hundreds of thrones. Magma compression during the sinking caused Atlantis [Santorini] to erupt with spectacular force. The Sea People were the survivors who were at sea at that terrible hour. they joined together and became the Phoenicians. The Phaistos Disk was not hieroglyphs. It is an itinerary of palace dining and events saying what to serve on a 30 day month on one side and what to serve for a 31 day month on the other. The so-called experts have it totally wrong. It's a wonderful story and I invite you to make the definitive documentary.

It's so odd that we know a fair amount about them but we don't even know what they're ACTUALLY called. We all know them as the minoans but that's like a placeholder. Little more than a guess. Not even a guess.
It's like naming the British the Arthurians.

Yeah this is true, as they did not call themselves Minoans, but it is not so strange that we haven't found their real name since the language of the Linear A writing system that they used is basically uknown to us. Well, at least we have their great buildings and artifacts to study and marvel at!

I think that's a discredited theory that it was Thera that caused their decline, they recovered after that and then declined later. The decline was caused by something else later on.

    • @richardarcher7177
      @richardarcher7177 Před rokem

The Minoans always had an ability to bounce back after their cataclysms and the Theran was no exception. Unfortunately for them, in the 1600-1550 timeline generally accepted for the eruption, a new power was rising - Mycenae. Whereas before there was no serious challenge to their re-emergence now the had to contend with a serious rival - and one better versed in warfare. I am no believer in a 'peaceful' minoan society - you don't get that sort of dominance without resorting to violence at times. I like to think that Minoan society was a little like Carthage where warfare is used only when necessary and to be ended ASAP to resume profitable trade whereas Mycenae was not unlike Rome where warfare is to be carried out to the destruction of the foe. Like Carthage, Minoan Crete - already weakened and hampered by a different outlook unsuited to the situation - simply could not prevail against such an opponent. Nonetheless, given it too anywhere from 100-200 years to succumb to Mycenean dominance they must have given their opponents a run for their money.

    First World Empire:
Nimrod-God Bacchus: 2025-2000 BCE. The creation of the First World Empire started from Nis, (Naissus) Serbia. Bocharti says that Nimrod’s army became known as Aryans. This is because Nimrod’s army consisted of professional hunters; the God of hunting in Serbian mythology is called Arion: consequently, we get Arions / Aryans. (Samuelis Bocharti) Nimrod’s wife Semiramis constructed in Babylon first world wonder Tower of Babylon mentioned in Old Testament.
    Second World Empire:
Serbo Makeridov: 1330-1300 BCE. The creation of the Second World Empire started from south Serbia. Alexander the Great tell us that there was a second world conquest which started from Naissus (Nis, Serbia) and which was led by the God Serbon: a great leader who was proclaimed a divinity-Quintus Rufus. Eusebii Pamphili claims that Serbon fought the Indians ca.1325 BCE and afterwards he built another Naissus at the Indus river, this was the city where Alexander the Great encountered Serbs according to Quintus Rufus and Pamphili (Ptolemaeus Eusebii).
Troy: 2000-1184 BCE. Dardania to day Serbia.
    Third World Empire:
Alexander the Great: 336-323 BCE. Son of King Philip the Great Karanovic and mother Olympia daughter of King Neotolomay Molosses from Serbo-Rasa tribe. (Ulrich Wilcken, Gustave Glotz) The creation of the Third World Empire started from south Serbia.
    Fourth World Empire:
Roman Empire: Etruscan organized Roman Empire and eastern Roman Empire and 18 Emperors are from today Serbia Constantine the Great also born in Nis (Naissus).
Following the 3rd Century Crisis (290s AD onward, the Empire was feeling less secure and thus there was a need for strong military leaders to take charge.
Many Roman noblemen and statesmen were born in present-day Serbia, including 17 or 18 Roman Emperors (Vetranio wasn't universally recognized as an emperor, but was proclaimed a caesar).[2][3]
