It doesn't help that the NBA doesn't announce the REGULAR SEASON awards until the playoffs have already started or have ended. They need to just announce them after the regular season but before the playoffs start

I remember the first Steve Nash MVP season and I recall the sentiment being, "hey, he's having an incredible year and was the catalyst behind this incredible turnaround of the Suns, so we have to give him an MVP because this won't happen again." But it did happen again, the next year, when he arguably deserved it more, since he did it all without Amare Stoudemire. I think if he would have lost it in 2005 to Shaq but won it in 2006--or 2007, which was probably his best statistical year--it would have made for a better story and wouldn't feel like they gave it to him because of some dumb narrative. And people wouldn't have such a negative view of it all these years later.

youre right... also if you give him mvp in 2005, you have no choice to do it again in 2006 considering he was doing more with less. still those nash mvps were more a product of a narrative at that time instead of objectively giving it to the actual mvp.

2006 was kobe's year to win that. Take him off that 06 lakers team and they don't make the playoffs. Plus he took the suns to 7 games.

The Phoenix Suns of the 2000s were a very strong team that tormented opponents with a 7-second offense and run-and-gun, led by point guard Steve Nash.
Nash won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award twice during his time with the Suns, but it's a shame he never won a championship ring during his playing days.
Still, Nash was a pioneer in starting a basketball that would become a trend in the modern NBA.

Maybe, but what we are talking about is championships. It does not matter whether a player has 1 or 2 MVP's, if he does not have a champiomship ring, its useless. Where is Steve Nash's, Amare Stoudamire's championship ring to be honeat?

Nash turned a 35% win team into a 75% win team. The year after his second best player didn’t play the whole season and his team was still a 54 win team. Stop this Nash deserved both of those. Nash also had a strong case for 07 MVP being his but voters got tired of him winning it.

    • @justinhuynh9982
      @justinhuynh9982 Před 9 měsíci

yeah but also because its possible for players to improve? individually steve nash didnt have good averages in the 06 season at all over kobe, literally the only case you could give is cuz his team won alot but thats literally team success. if someone had worse individual averages than someone but had a better winning record team, the reason for it is because STEVE NASH’S TEAMMATES had better averages than kobes teammates

@@justinhuynh9982 saying Nash didn’t have good averages in 06 is one of the goofiest things I’ve ever heard. It’s unfortunate Kobe’s teammates were ass but we’re going off what we had and Nash had a significantly better record, a top offensive player, and arguably the most impactful player in the league. As great as Kobe was he doesn’t have a case in my eyes. Case for best player in the league probably but as for MVP no.

@@justinhuynh9982 who said he was the best in the league? MVP is almost never given to the best player in the league, Nash literally turned a lottery team into a 1st seeded team, and the year after without his second best player he still won 54+ games. Stop this Nash was legit the most valuable player in the league when he won those awards. If MVP went to the greatest player in the league then nobody outside of LeBron and Jordan would have any, use common sense my guy. Nash still put up elite numbers on 50,40,90, he wasn’t a crazy scorer but was top 3 in efficient given his volume, especially in the dead ball era of ball. Stop this my guy he 100% deserved those.

@@mr.longjohn0014 so you dont think hes the best player in the league but he shouldve won mvp because he was the best player on the highest seeded team? so bill russells the goat because he was the best player on one of the best dynasties of all time? mj and lebron should have won more mvps too so yeah thanks for pointing that out. when discussing the greatest player of all time, theres a reason why people talk about who had the best individual seasons and not who had the best team records each year. when we talk MVP we dont talk whos mvp by nba standards, we say whos the greatest that season not who was the best player on the best team that season, when we talk who was the GOAT, not many say bill russells the goat but hes literally the greatest player on one of the greatest dynasties of all time winning 11 rings. so obviously jordan, lebron and kobe should have more and im not even a kobe fan too i actually think people overrate him, but this take on nash deserrving the mvp is outrageous.

I'm not exactly a LeBron fanboy, but watching the Cavs in 2019 was proof LeBron was MVP in 2018. I am a Shaq fan, but the team turn around of the Suns in 2005 made me believe Nash was MVP.
The Chris Paul argument should extend to 2012 also. The same year the league decided he shouldn't go to the Lakers. He goes to the Clippers and improves them by 14 wins. Not impressive enough? That was the lockout year!! They only played 66 games!! Meaning he led the Clippers to 14 more wins with 16 less games to do it in!!! They had essentially the same team with the same coach as the year before. Yet he finished third. WITAF?!?!

The Wolves missed the playoffs that year, despite having a winning record (KG's last winning record with the team), so unfortunately there is no way he deserved it more than Nash or Shaq that year. Pretty much all were correct except for 2006, which Kobe deserved (his second best player was Lamar Odom that year, and Phil coming back is likely the reason they made the playoffs those two seasons before 07-08), and I definitely would have swapped MJ and Malone in 97-98. Iverson deserved it in 01 (second option was Aaron McKie, enough said), as did Nash in 05 (similar to Kidd in that he changed the culture of the team that had Amare, Marion, Joe Johnson, etc. on it the previous year and made them winners by getting rid of Marbury), Rose in 2011 (his second option was a committee of Deng, Noah, or Boozer), and Harden in 2018 (that was Harden and the Rockets at their peaks), and there is a really good case for either Kobe/CP3 in 08 (remember, Kobe had a top seed with Bynum, Odom, and Fisher as his supporting cast until the Pau trade so he had a similar supporting cast as CP3 much of the year) and Duncan/Kidd in 01 (Kidd having 26 more wins than Marbury and making the Finals with the same supporting cast and less impressive stats speaks VOLUMES for his impact).

There was no big gap for Jokic to the point of saying he should have won it unlike his previous wins. The biggest actual advantage among the 3 of them was Embiid's scoring. That was the deciding factor. Jokic fell off down the stretch and lost the triple double average along with the award. As for Nash. Yeah Kobe should have gotten that.

a lot of inconsistency and cherry-picking in this video... some years you just look at team records, others years raw stats and then some other years advance stats.
in 2005 nash did join 29 win team and won 62 games the year after, but look who he was playing with: amare = 26/9 and marion = 19/11. both guys were all stars and all nba. sure shaq had wade, but thats still 2 allstars vs 1 and shaq put up better numbers. also that year dirk had much better augment. 26/10, 49 efg%, top in advance stats, lost nash and still won 58 games without another allstar or all nba player.
in 2006 nash had better argument considering he put up better numbers and won 54 games after losing amare, however dirk was still a better choice considering he was doing more with less.
in 2018 lebron had better overall numbers, but then when you look at advance numbers haden was better:
    per: harden = 29.8, lebron = 28.6
    win shares: harden = 15.4, lebron = 14
    box +/-: harden = 9.9, lebron = 8.7
also lebron had another allstar on his team, harden did not.
