In his men at war video presenting the new cavalry he bloody slaughtered all the French with his cav too without any retinue. At least here he made them do a suicidal charge on the British front line a the end.

Actually it's a brand new engine this time, the lack of reload and no morale was a design choice since the game was based on being exactly the same as Cossacks 1 but with a new 3D engine and better graphics/animations etc.
Cossacks 2: Napoelonic Wars was definitely the best game of the series. Had realistic reloads, volley fire and a morale system.
This just looks horrible.
The only good thing about the older Cossacks games was that they had ships that were to-scale... but they've not retained that in this incarnation :P
I will give a try to Cossacks 3. But I liked the idea of troops reloading muskets and morale system. I think the one who mastered both was American Conquest; I really hoped they made a sequel to American Conquest...
I always liked American conquest. The whole engine needs to incorporate running and more animations though. It just looks lame when a bayonet charge is a walk.

I agree. Better graphics only. The mechanics, building and units are the same as the first Cossack back in 2001. Too sad.
the cannons with crews were awesome in American Conquest games. I totally hated the guns magically moving on own their own. I mean, whats the point? it takes the fun out of the gameplay and also the feeling of realism. i know it is not the most realistic game, but why go through so much detail on uniforms and then totally leave out cannon crew?
You are aware that this is a remake of the original Cossacks from 2001, not a new game? The title is a bit misleading.

The casualty rates and insanely high morale of units is super arcade-y. Nothing like real life. And still a shame to see cannons with no crews.

What is Empire at War?
Because it's an arcade game? Devs never hid it from anyone that this is more of a remake of original cossacks than a whole new game, and the original cossacks tried to be bigger scale age of empires in a time frame that was more relevant to Eastern Europe and Central Europe.

Such battles was really cool in 2001, but since Empire and Napoleon total wars came out, it looks so outdated.
this is completely stupid compared to Napoleona nd Empire and iven to Cossacks 2... I mean it's Called Cossacks 3 where is the improvement?? And don't tell me they wanted to remake the Cossaks 1 mechanics becouse they werent like that becouse of stile they were like that becouse of limitations of that age... No one wants a stupid 2001 strategy game with completely unrealistic battles (and "better" graphics wich are still worse then Total war) when you have things like Total war...

Yeah Cossacks had and has some weird mechanics but in Coassacks 2 you could and it was amazing! Look of some footage of it
Yeah I don´t get why they remade the first Cossacks when the second had amazing mechanics. Like you could decide when the indiviual lines fire and the closer you were the more damage you did. So you could use the swedish tactics and charge up to the enemy and then fire a volley right into their faces to obliberate them, assuming their volley didn´t kill too many of your man. And the reload time was actually rather long, so it was important how you timed you volleys and charges.

That's because this is editor mode, and the enemy was on "hold position". In a normal game the AI would be a lot smarter.

The last time I played Cossacks, Facebook hadn't been invented yet. An old game, which entertained me for months. The campaign and created battles were awesome :D

Cossacks was my all time fav game at the time of AOE when i was younger, i loved it because the troops dont have health its pretty realistic! youve just made me buy Cossacks3 which i never knew was out! great vid! subbed and liked keep up the great work buddy!!!
The command to charge bayonets from the 1791 manual was "Croisez la baïonnette", then followed simply be "en avant!" Although in the 17th century, charging the pike breast high was "presentez von piques" so that may apply as well.
its amazing how this good of a video and this good of a game is 7 years old.
If your going to make a battle make it fair. You had an unfair advantage with grenadiers, cavalry and even had more men than the brits. Although you were at a disadvantage due to advancing on the enemy they stood no chance against you cavalry and grenadiers supported by line infantry and artillery.
No one cares.

They lost, swallow it and move on. I didn't see you in the comments when in his men at war videos the French or the Americans where at a huge disadvantage against the Brits. Diplex is a British fanboy so don't worry for the Brits loosing too much.
Diplex, you should do a scenario where there is 3 units of standard line infantry in front and only artillery behind for your side. On the other side, there should be masses of infantry. It would be so epic! Thanks for the vids!
Never played Cossacks III, but did play a lot of Cossacks Art of War and older versions, and... Played them a bit more realistically: in reality they never used 4-rank formations, I just "glue" together a bunch of 36 or 72 units that are stacked up close behind when on the march, basically forming a huge 18-wide column, and divided my Armies into Corps. Which is what they would've done in real life: once my cavalry found the enemy, I'd start looking at terrain features for getting around being peppered with artillery.
And above all: using the 72-unit, 3-rank unit gives you an element of realism and flexibility: A 2-rank deep "Dual 36" formation covers as much terrain as a single 120 men 4-rank unit and hence gives a lot more tactical flexibility with just half the men. The 3-rank Dual 72-men line-formation gives you about 48 width with 30% less men. This is why they invented the 3-ranks and later 2-rank systems in the first place. These smaller units which temporarily pack the same amount of "terrain holding power" allows you to hold the line, and even (counterattack) with a much smaller force against the enemy main army while you have all your other Corps/divisions race to the scene at post-haste! And with some luck, you might be crashing with 1 or even 2 fresh divisions on his flank/rear just as the enemy's assault is running out of steam. Arriving with "big" divisions consisting of 3-rank formations gives you another option than too: you can disband them, and reinforce the depleted 2-rankers you were fighting with in the first place.
This "lenghtening by thinning" your line is especially handy when playing the heavy-shooting civvies like the Prussians, Bavarians or Danes, and where building up 120 men blocks is just too costly and slow. And if you got your researches right, a well timed volley from a Prussian 72-men, 2 rank/36-wide formation will peel away the first 2 ranks of a 120 men formation like gentle cheese, after which the road is wide open for a head-on bayonet charge. And when these guys are supported by batteries of cannon delivering concentrated artillery fire and maximum usage of terrain-features.... It'll be a slaughter even bigger than this, but more elegant :-)

PS. In real life the Prussians always used 2 or 3 rank formations, the French under Napoleon used 3-rank lines often supported by greenhorn columns on the flanks, while the British Highlander stuck to their 2-rank Thin Red Line :-) And the Austrians stuck to 4-rank formations, till they got their ars*s kicked by Frederick the Great on numerous occassions. I ought to dust off my Cossacks games here, and give it a shot again hehe. And smaller formations "glued" together for the time being, can be disbanded when disaster strikes and you need to reconfigure from a 288-men double 3 rank charge to a "forlorn hope" line of about 100 men to cover your retreat hehe!

Diplex cossacks napoleonic wars offers you a large variety of different nations and traditional regiments of the napoleonic era. I preferred this version of cossacks and spent weeks editing new scenarios :)

I've struggled with this game series due to the self operating artillery that just wheels about without a crew. Would it be completely outside the realm of reason for the developers to add crew animations

- does the new game still spot the old bugs, especially those considering stuck formations, inability to control them when close to a capture-able cannon and terrain?
- there seems imbalance in movement speed between infantry and cavalry, can you confirm?
- is the AI as pathetic as in the old game? I saw a few videos where it was even worse?

If it had unit collision, it'd be better than Empire. This doesn't have unit collision.
Yeah right, the units get mowed down way too fast, this game is about as unrealistic as aoe2 so it's not even in the same category

Reds had no chance, blue had cavalery and you controll blue using tactical ambush. kinda not fair.. :D you could select all blue team and just command line up behind red team shoting while moving. would be much interesting :)) but it's only my opinion
Diplex if you want to play a medieval game play Bladestorm: 100 years war. Don't play the nightmare one that deals with demons etc. the Hundred Years' War is a game I would highly recommend

You wasted your cavalry you fool. Should have pulled them back and then flanked in the second attack rather than having them charge in on their own without infantry support. Their mother's would be disappointed in you.
