How To Catch Snook on Shrimp Day or Night Fishing

- In this video I catch three snook during the day on small shrimp, two really big ones. I explain how to rig your line when fishing for snook and demonstrate how to catch them. This method works anywhere the big ones are hanging out. You will see me catch two huge fish, back to back, two casts, two shrimp and two snook.
The same method used in this video is how I fish around rocks, bridges, jetties, flats, inlets and beaches.
You will also learn the best way to hook a shrimp when fishing for snook.
Rigging:
1. Forty pound test leader. Here's the link to my video showing how to rig for snook fishing with shrimp, lady fish, greenbacks, pinfish or grunts: • How To Rig For Snook F...
2.4/O circle hook, preferably Mustad
3. Medium to heavy spinning reel and rod combo depending upon what type of structure you are fishing around.
4. Ten to thirty pound test line your your reel depending upon the area you are fishing in
I've caught gigantic snook on handpicks and very small shrimp. I prefer using handpicked shrimp, but sometimes they aren't available. So, I just go with the biggest ones I can get.
There's a saying, "the bigger the bait, the bigger the fish". I've found this to be true in most cases. If you hook up with a snook on a decent sized lady fish, chances are he's going to be a huge, giant of a fish. If you fish with shrimp you increase your changes of catching more snook and still may catch a big one.
I don't claim to be an expert on snook fishing during the day. In fact, in this CZcams video I explain that I've never caught snook during mid afternoon. I've always fished for the in early morning, late evening and at night, but never during the heat of the day.
I've heard that spawning snook, like the ones I caught in the video, generally have a healthy appetite. Perhaps that would explain why they were biting so good during the daytime. Still, I've learned through the years that these are very finicky fish. When they feed, they feed like crazy. When they don't want to eat, it's nearly impossible to get one to glance at your bait.
This video was produced by JC with the Rad Reeling Fishing CZcams channel. Creating Residuals Inc. edited and finalized all of the video footage.

-Snook
-Pompano

relaxing fishing video without loud music and over hyped drama, great catch, really enjoyed
Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I mix things up with some music periodically, don't want to over do it.
Second video I stumbled upon of this guy, with affordable gear that I have bought from Walmart and he knows what's up
Same Berkeley Fusion set up on another video and now the Rhino Rod...
Keep up the good work man, tight lines
Thanks for the complement. I love the Rhino Rod too. It's a little bit flexible at the tip, great for circle hook fishing live bait in open water. Doesn't have enough heavy support to wrestle with big fish near structure. Man I slammed a nice 33" snook fifteen minutes after snook season opened on the Berkley Fusion combo. I'm not affiliated with Walmart, but the do have some decent gear, not all, but some. I did a review on the Shakespeare Contender combo, not such good news there.
I'm not affiliated with Walmart but we al buy inexpensive gear there.
I can't wait until I am able to fly down south again and do some fishing
Yea i love jc videos. Ive learned a lot. Im stuck fishing shore bound and its great to see it can be done. I think im well north of him in pinellas but i guess same technique s would work here.
I don’t think there’s been one video that I haven’t learned something from you you rock.
❤the tip about freezing water I’ve been doing that since I started kayak fishing. Saves room and I can drink it when it thaws out.
Hey JC great video. Came up on my CZcams algorithm!!! Lmao... you now being the pompano prince questioning that slab. We've all been there lol
That is a beautiful pompano I want to this year go out and target them specifically. Never caught one on a pompano rig ready to try it.
Sweet! Snook fishing videos, and lots great info on fishing!
Thanks Man!
Thanks...I have more snook vids on the way.
What a great fishing day. I never have that kind of day. Great video.
Awesome video again jc. Im taking my 17 yr old son to honeymoon island tomorrow night. Hopefully we can get our 1st.
Your the main man my hero 🎉
I fish this spot all the time it sure does produce some nice snook !
I love fishing that area. I haven't been there in over a year.
Here in Brazil there isnt snook season..so we can fish for snook all year long and keep it as many as we can catch...but the size to keep is up to 14 inches.
Ah, the good ole days
Good excellent
Please hook size
great vid.... I catch a lot of snook near bridges in brackish water.
I"ve heard in some areas like that they are very plentiful. Do you catch large ones?
haha, surprised to hear you didn't recognize a Pompano.. Although I've only caught a couple of them. Watching reruns tonight JC. I hate it when I see people dump like that. No respest for the country, land, or themselves.
Yeah, that was when I first started the channel and didn't know about Pompano like now, ha ha...Thanks for watching and commenting.
Dude you fish right by my house that's my spot we should fish sometime
Awesome video, no weights.
Correct, the current wasn't moving very fast at that time. I usually try freelining a bait before putting on weights when snook fishing.
Awesome videos. Thank you for the great channel.
One question on the way you pitched those shrimp out there.
Do you let drift freely in the current or are you jigging it every once in a while with a pop?
Thanks for asking Dean. I think at 3:50 is a good place to watch how I was freelining the shrimp. The current was pushing pretty good and I think I just kept letting line out so the shrimp would drift naturally.
Awesome fishing and video sir. I know you say you were targeting whiting but next time you should try your luck under that bridge. Most likely bigger snook under there.
You've got a good point there Kix! The snook will be in the inlets soon. I'll try under the bridge for sure!
Rad Reeling Fishing....awesome, Good luck and tight lines.
Cool, nice video.!!! 🐻
Thanks for watching. I'd just started my channel a couple of months prior to making this video. I've come a long way since then.
Setting the circle hook like a j hook. Whatever man its working for you obviously. Nice fishing
Yes, old habits die hard. Those are actually gentle hook sets. The rod is pretty flimsy. I caught the heck out of fish that day. Perhaps all the experts aren't really right about how to set a circle hook.
Rad Reeling Fishing man I set my circle hooks too, my wife just lets them take it and starts reeling, unfortunately I usually hook less fish then her, old habits do indeed die hard.
Great video
Thanks for commenting Sunny Side! What state do you live in?
Fl
I’m always catching Big Snooks on small lures.
Way cool. My buddy years ago caught about a 42" Snook on a shrimp that was about four inches long. Thanks for commenting.
do you use a small split shot weight above on the leader at all or just free line the hook/shrimp?
I always freeline shrimp.
Do you use a weight with your shrimp? I mostly fish the bay and canals
Sometimes. When I Snook fish with shrimp I almost always free line though.
Cool video , I fish for snook in Deep South Texas we are able to keep 1 per person 24"-28" year round. What if the regulations for snook for you?
Thanks for the comment! The slot size is 28"-32", one per day. We have two closed season times during the year, Dec. 1-end of February; May 1-Aug. 31. I love catching snook. I'm uploading a video from yesterday morning where I caught one on a lure, loads of fun.
lol texas snook are puny!
Nice snooks and pompano 🖒💪 have you done a video on cleaning and cooking whiting?
Yes, just trying to keep a steady publication of videos going.
I found it!! Thanks for the videos you are putting out love watching them
hello! may I ask where is this spot looks nice and safe to fish?
Thanks for asking. We don't reveal locations on this channel.
Good video, I am interested

Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing and being a subscriber. More videos coming soon!
So you just free line the shrimp ?
Yes
What part of Florida are you in. I would love to fish with you.
South west Fl.
Marco Island here, I’m always looking for fishing buddies
@RadReelingFishing it's looks like a Florida keys!!
what size hook is that sir?
I think I was using a 4/0
where was this filmed?
Thanks for asking. I won't be revealing any exact fishing spots. I don't want to be know as a "Spot Burner". I live in South West Florida. Fish around rocks, flats, oyster beds with drop offs, bridges or places where there's strong moving current...You'll catch fish in any city if do that...Catching fish is all about finding them. It's not so easy to find them, but when you do, don't blab to the world about exactly where! I hope you subscribe Nicolas!
I thought snook need structure I didnt realize you could catch them on open beach
Hey Jack, thanks for commenting. During June, July and August snook spawn on the beaches and inlets. When you walk the beaches you can often seen them cruising in the trough areas very close to shore.
Wherr you free lining the shrimp or added alittle weight?
Hey Tony, I was free lining. It was the end of the tide. Here's my set up: czcams.com/video/__uaIoq8d1E/video.html Thanks for commenting.
Cool😎. Thanks alot. I will try it out this week.
Correct me if wrong but is that Coquina?
Hi Lindsey, thanks for commenting. I don't reveal the names of places that I fish. There's a term among fishing video creators on CZcams know as "spot burner". I don't want to be the guy who tells "exactly" where to catch fish. It just seems like the wrong thing to do in my opinion. If locals recognize a place that's fine, but I don't want to be blamed for a good fishing spot getting burned out due to announcing specific locations. Glad you watch the video and do hope you've subscribed.
Rad Reeling Fishing I completely understand
Big Carlos ?
I’m near by..if you want company..fish from my hobie
What part of Florida is this?
South West
is that Sebastian inlet?
Hey Carson, thanks for asking. I don't share where my fishing spots are. Thanks for being a subscriber!
No
Looks like Sebastian or ft lauterdale not gonna say exactly
Your lin wasnt on the roller bering
Oh my! I didn't know that... I just found what you are talking about. It was when I caught the biggest snook. I've since retired that reel.I was really lucky to have not damaged the line. Thanks for the comment!
