    Something I hope they expand on is making the devil more of the villain in this story rather than just looking really cool. If you want me to root for Troop to take him down, you gotta characterize him some other way than just badass guitar player.

      Keep in mind, Troop 22 had the electric cello and Troop 23 had the harmonica. The guitar has been done before, but the Troopers certainly aren't afraid of throwing something different at a show if it works.

    I appreciate the time invested by these young kids and the talent on display. But...could someone please, for the love of DCI, come out like it’s the 70’s or 80’s? Blow us away with sheer power and marching. Not piped in backgrounds, countless props, and endless distractions.

      Catch the first minute of this show!
      High Mark Time and the horn line rips your face off! Feels like just what you are asking for.
      Then they go into performing for the judges….

      @toddhawk9921 the beginning of the show is pretty similar to go drum corps. But nowadays props, choreo, and performance does factor a lot for the scores and build the story a bit, so I don’t think they’ll stop doing that stuff

    Guitar solo? Why are they playing guitar at a drum corps show?

      @@rileychristensen3854 Tgere is no time new or old where string instruments should appear on a drum corp field. Yes I’m old but different and new doesn’t mean better. At this point just call it band it’s no longer drum corp.

      @thomashartmann2891 well guess what buddy, they do now. It is as much drum corps today as it was 30 years ago. Just cause you don't agree with it doesn't mean it isn't.

    Over two minutes into this section before the horn line and drums actually play. And not much drill at all. A lot of emotive dance and pushing props around. This trend is the fault of the designers and the judges who reward it. Not a knock on Troopers as they are only following the trend, but the designers in general who have turned DCI into their creative playground with no acknowledgment of the parameters that made drum & bugle corps unique and wonderful. It’s a free for all these days and for what they have gained, they have lost much more.

      Coming from a younger person, I like the dancing, but I wish there was more balance between choreo and the classic DCI drills. Emotive dancing should compliment drill, not overshadow. But what do I know😅

    • @silvermineband2719
      @silvermineband2719 Před měsícem +1

      @@cgarriott I see your point, but let’s face it; they are not good dancers. It’s like giving the CG horns and having them play. You could teach them some basics, but they would be far inferior to trained brass players. Dance is a discipline all its own and to my eyes, the quality is not up to the standards that the brass and percussion must maintain.

    • @cgarriott
      @cgarriott Před měsícem

      @@silvermineband2719 Honestly that's a good point and I think they're trying to fix that. Auditions these days include dance routines; pretty much everyone I know in drum corps took a dance class to prepare and I plan to do the same. Even then without years of training we can only expect so much. It would also be cool if the instruments were used as a dance 'prop' more often instead of laying them on the floor and awkwardly flailing around

      I bet you are fun at parties. It is a performance… I honestly find this kinda style a lot more interesting than older shows, those older shows are just kinda move and play, and the middle parts are frankly boring and typically have not amazing music. Now corps blow your faces off, move around a bit and do some sick dancing and playing, then march some hard af drill while blowing your face off again and close it out. Finally, this is a performing art, it is going to change and evolve, no interesting performing art has remained the same over the years.

      @cgarriott As far as I know, troopers just requires basic marching routines and playing routines for auditions. They at least did when my brother auditioned back in '21.
