In fact, in an interview, Simone explained that Rivers and Once Upon a Nightmare were recorded back to back as one take. Rivers is another ballad sung ‘a capella’ with a choir. The other interesting thing about this recording, Simone and the band were static as the cameraman moved around them. He had to have an assistant trailing him to ensure he didn’t step into the fire. Lead guitarist does indeed play a 7 string Les Paul.
