What did I learn ? - 1. that steadies (either fixed steady or travelling steady) can come with roller tips, and 2. 'cat's head' - not seen or heard of those before despite being aware of 'cat's paws' for boring operations. As for putting paper between fixed steady and the bed, I'd disagree with. Apart from cleaning the bed (& lubing) before placing the fixed steady on it, I'd slide the fixed steady back and forth to ensure it was cleanly down to the bed and not resting on anything in between. Paper can only add sponginess to the mounting although only slight !
doesn't matter much because the jaws can be adjusted to the work piece with or without paper. I was taken aback myself when I saw him doing that though. Never knew that was procedure. This would protect the ways from any wear in addition to ........ what he said -slipping. I have some trouble seeing a steady rest 'slipping' but I'm certainly no authority

As they used to say: the world turns on Colchester lathes.
mechine is spelled machine
No, mechine is spelled mechine. However machine is indeed spelled machine.
Always looks better if machine is spelt right. Otherwise the first lot of information looks bad.
