Q&A with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis
Friday, May 8, 2015
Duke Ellington’s music is at the very heart of America’s 20th-century musical heritage and the core of the rich canon of jazz music. Jazz at Lincoln Center, committed to instilling a broader understanding of this music, created the Essentially Ellington program (EE) during the 1995-96 school year to make Ellington’s music accessible to as many high school musicians as possible and to support the development of their schools’ music programs.

Wynton is a genius. No doubt about it, and through that he manages to surround himself with other geniuses!! This band is the best in the world....no question.
Every musician will eventually surround themselves with other musicians. It just happens.
Watching these got me through the pandemic.
He's awesome! Full of integrity.
Amazing group of musicians and even more so, seeing them as every day 'people'. You can certainly feel the love they have for what they do, and for each other. That's what it's all about.
You can't not at least appreciate this. Beautiful!
2:25 - Magnolias Dripping With Molasses (first movement of the 'Deep South Suite', 1946) + 50:43 - St. Louis Blues (1946) + 1:23:02 - Down South Camp Meeting (1936) + 1:28:41 - On the Mark (Matt Wong, 2014?)
