  • Velvet spiders get their name from the hair-like structures all over their bodies which give them a soft, velvety appearance. These velvet spider facts will help you learn more about these awesome arachnids! They come in bright colors, like the ladybird spider, and dark monotones. Some are solitary and only meet another velvet spider when mating. Others are social and construct family nests that reach hundreds of members!

    I just saw a red four dotted velvet spider a week ago on a mountain in hungary. It was pretty tiny and looked from its movings little like a jumping spider. Was beautiful and had a really strong intense red coloring

    in case you're still looking for animals to cover, I recommend Cuckoo wasps. I know you already covered parasitic wasps, but those Cuckoo wasps are so amazingly colourful, well worth a video on it's own - imo :)

    I've seen red-velvet jumping spiders everywhere... as if they're mimicking velvet ants. Some I've seen even share the same markings. The velvet ant/cowkiller is like the battle tank of the insect world. So appearing as a velvet ant tells predators "NOPE".

      Fun fact: "Cowkiller" is not a misnomer or hyperbolic. If a grazing cow accidentally swallows one, a sting in the tongue or esophagus can swell up and literally suffocate them.

    Never seen a velvet spider, we do have several species of Jumping Spiders which I enjoy watching, they are the Raptors of the Spider world, actively going after their prey. We do have Velvet Wasp which is to be avoided at all cost (I know from the hard way).

      Not sure why u call them a wasp (or maybe something im not familiar with, or google for that matter) but in mississippi we call them cow killers or just velvet ants. Ive watched coyote peterson get stung before. Those things look like a demon anyways. I hate them.
