Guy B: WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! *SHOVES BACK FORWARD ROUGHLY* WE HAVE TO STARE INTENSELY AT THE TRAIN AND PRETEND WE ARE WORKING ON IT (BUT JOKES ON US LOL)

"Andrew Ng from the Singapore Institute of Technology's engineering cluster said a 'bug' in the signalling system software could be the culprit"... are you serious? Signalling is supposed to be fail-safe. Somebody could have died! In the old days there is physical interlocking to make such errors impossible, because signal-related train collisions had of the worst fatality count in history. This is like an elevator being able to go up and down with the doors wide open due to a short circuit.

the driver is the last line of defence. news report said that even he failed to apply brakes. he literally just watch the train go kiss backside.

    •  Před 6 lety +1

mailerdiablo it was failsafe. So when it failed, it would be safe. They programmed the trains to stop if they were going on for too long. And that's what they did. The trains stopped 10 meters away from each other before starting again. If they hadn't fixed this from a similar crash 30 years ago, many more people than 0 would have died. Besides, I study computer science, and I find it terrifying that two lines of code in a million can cause a bug like this.

    • @sgbuses

The last crash (at Clementi) was not caused by the signalling system.

10 years or 15 years ago trains were very smoothly in operation but these few years getting worst. Slow moving, jam, stuck and faulty. Tracks fault, train fault, engine burned, this and that faults. High rank and well paid people keep talk and talk tons of excuses but no effective action adopted. Every day the same faults repeated. Slowly slowly waiting for..............?

Tbh i dont really mind since i hardly ever take the mrt unless it further away or that im rushing but i do hope smrt can solve these kinds of problems with ease soon

In physics, the observer effect is the fact that simply observing a situation or phenomenon necessarily changes that phenomenon. This is often the result of instruments that, by necessity, alter the state of what they measure in some manner. A commonplace example is checking the pressure in an automobile tire; this is difficult to do without letting out some of the air, thus changing the pressure. Similarly, it is not possible to see any object without light hitting the object, and causing it to reflect that light.
Therefore, it's the reporter's fault for reporting on this.

You people have nothing to complain about, so you start to make a big deal about 2 trains colliding with no casualities? Humans make mistakes sometimes, whoopdi-fucking-doo. You all should be grateful for the speed and efficency this was handled in. Try to act at least a bit less entitled next time.
