- Peruvemba - West - 100 Agraharams Project
There are many different ways the place is spelled, even in official records. Peruvemba, Peruvembu, Peruvamba etc.
15 kilometers from Palakkad Junction on SH27 and 3 kilometers off the Mannathu Kavu temple junction is Peruvemba West gramam and the Vileeswaram Shiva Parvathi Temple
Sri Ganesh Vadhyar's recounting his darshan of MahaPeriyava and the Sage's beautiful telling of the origin of the name for the lord is divine. I wonder how much the Mahan has traveled across this land. My pranams to 'Sarvagya' omniscient Periyaval.
"To call" is 'Vili' in malayalam. The Shiva here responds to the call of a devotee is the significance of his name. Vileeswaran.
I tried finding the meaning of the name Peruvemba and Sri P K Anantha Subramanian, President, narrated that the humongous Neem trees in the area surrounded by ponds and a hundred and eight temples, gave the place its name. Vembu வேம்பு is Neem. The profusion of the Neem tree perhaps gave the name Peruvembu.
The official portal of the Revenue department of Kerala states thus: "Peruvembu Village is Palakkad Taluk of Palakkad District, Kerala. It says that name Peruvembu is originated from the word Peruveppu (Neem Tree) which was boundary/Check Post between State of Madras and State of Kerala during the reign of British. Still the main junction of village is known as "Chugam" where one has to take toll to enter the state."
"Peruvemba is famous for the uniquely skilled craftsmen who manufacture and tune the leather-based percussion musical instruments such as Mridangam, Maddalam, Tabla, Timila, Chenda, Idakka etc. These families have been in this craft for about 200 years. The tiny hamlet, situated about 15 km from the main town, is home to skilled and proficient craftsmen."
The village is sought after by the maestros of Carnatic music who come down to this tiny village all the way from Thanjavur and Chennai and many parts of the world to get their instruments made and fine-tuned.
Visit this agraharam that has the effulgent blessings of Sri Mahaperiyava and get the blessings of Vileeswaran who answers all your calls.
Radhe Krishna
