- I had a bad haircut and really needed some good layers added, especially in the back, to make it look better. Watched a bunch of Brad Mondo hair videos and One Minute Mullet DIY haircut challenges on Tiktok and just decided to go for it.

Thanks for posting this - you did a good job, but I'm mostly happy to see I am not the only one who grows their hair out painstakingly, spends good money to have it cut and has to go home and fix it my own darned self.

Looks awesome! I've been cutting my own hair like this for 43 years! 💇♀That was when I was 17 and now I'm 60. It was in Seventeen magazine back in the day 😄
I'm 71 and I still think about Seventeen Magazine. I wanted my two daughters to live it too. Best part is that it was such a BIG magazine. Waited for the giant September issue with all the new clothes for school...better than Sept Vogue.
But alas, Seventeen went small and I haven't seen it in years. I'm now on the hunt for some vintage Sept issue Seventeen mags. Thanks for bringing back to mind the fun of Seventeen Magazine!!

Great job! I’ve been cutting my own hair since the pandemic started and my own haircuts are better than any of the many stylists I have been to. I remember only one stylist that I miss, but he is too far away now to make a haircut feasible.
Same here I have really long natural hair & w rather have teeth pulled in the dentist than answer the banal ' where are you going for your holidays? typi cal hairdressing tropes ..Hilarious I am partially sighted & following Brad Mondo's 4 sectioning thing I can cut my hair confidentally...that guy really KNOWS ?his stuff & probably saved many heads during lockdown

I did this haircut a few days ago and it turned out similarly to yours. Before my hair was half wavy, half straight and pretty frizzy - especially in the back like you said you experienced. Now my hair is beautiful like yours. :) I actually did both the ponytail on top of the head cut and a mid-low ponytail cut to get the layers and also take off length. I ended up going shoulder length. The front pieces were a little longer than I wanted (a bit like an asymmetrical bob) so I pulled them under my chin and snipped and they somehow blended in perfectly with the rest of my hair. So I ended up using 3 different methods to get my desired look hahaha. I also didn't do the face framing layers part because I already had some from when I gave myself a fringe plus layers a few months ago and everything looked good so I didn't bother. I'm sure the cut isn't perfect (a hair dresser might cringe), but my hair is wavy enough like yours to not really see any unevenness. :) This is the first time in my life where I'm embracing wavy layers so I bought some curl enhancing products and I'm super excited. I got the Shea Moisture curl and shine shampoo and the curl and style hair milk - I'll probably get the conditioner after I run out of what I'm using now.

It looks great. A friend of mine, years ago, showed me the ponytail cut. My hair is very curly also. I cut my own like this for years until I grew it out really long again. I just might give this another try. Thanks for sharing!!

This cut is from the seventy’s. The ponytail is put closer to the forehead for bangs if wanted and would ld have a more graduated effect for the sides. Then ponytail is put back in and one hair roller is used to curl. Large or small depending on size of wave, curl or volume is wanted. We usually slept on it like that. Funny how tends cycle.
Yes, my cousin did this to me when I was a kid (she was in her teens) as practice. If it worked on me she would do hers. My mother was furious. Still makes me laugh
Yes. I remember it well. Was thinking about cutting my hair like that again but not sure how it would look on a 76 yr old woman. Certainly loved it like that back in the day!

This looks so great! I've been watching these kinds of videos and a part of me really wants to try out the chin or shoulder length wolf cut with a cute bang like that. But at this point my hair is down to my waist so it will take a lot of courage! It's just these cuts look so good, yours turned out beautiful and it really suits you!

Do it. Long hair is a pain. Start just to your shoulder blades. That long you probably look like a pioneer.
Layers are the best. It gives so much volume even when you wear your hair strait! I have dark hair and did this cut longer. I wear my hair strait but this cut makes my ends thinner and the top fuller and you can't see where the layers are. It just looks like great hair. Never needing a hairdresser again!!

I’ve been to 4 salons trying to get a shag and 4 times it looked more like a mullet.
Not sure how to describe the cut I want so that the hairdressers understand. I’ve used words like fringe, layered, Sebring type cut, etc. Apparently I’m not communicating clearly enough. 😧
I’ve cut my own hair for a long time and it’s been fine. For now I can’t see well enough so really want to have it cut.
