A paper clip should never be underestimated just like anything in life.
I tried this, but one of the main problems is that people don't give me "their offers" like they did for this guy. They specifically ask me, "What do you want for it?" And when I tell them I want something worth a little more, they get confused and don't know what to offer me. So far I have traded a Korean to English book and audio tape for a neck massager, but the girl forgot to include the plug. I just need to go and buy the plug to make it work to be able to trade the massager up.

@foodfreak Fair to say that this is more of a one-off than something everyone can do. Like people saying let's Reuse discarded bottles/refuse to build houses cause some art major did it.
But what you need to give him credit for him acting on an idea and using publicity when he had it. Now he's traded all that stuff, and the time and effort doing it, to make a story for himself that he can get small paid speaking gigs for. Better than sitting in his apartment with an idea but doing nothing.
