The main reason Elaida deserves all the hate she gets is that while she is motivated by saving the world; it's only about 3rd or 4th on her priority list; after crushing her enemies in the tower and raising up the glory of all things Elaida.

I blame Nicholas Sparks, and the Notebook for that guy just yelling for an hour asking the girl what she wants.

In Elaida’s POVs she does not see people. They don’t exist for her and that’s mentioned again and again. She is a narcissist. Elaida wants to built herself a mansion in the middle of the end of the world instead of taking care of the people of Tar Avalon. She wants only deference and forced adoration. How can anyone say she is not morally corrupt?

I agree that Sanderson (with help from RJ) didn’t like Nyneave OR Moiraine so he changed Moiraine into a different, softer, less powerful YOUNGER LOOKING person who liked men and was gifted to Thom. Thom has 1000 times more agency at the end than either woman. Nyneave was also MUCH more deferential and USEFUL to the men and mainly existed to serve Rand and Lan. Faile also just exists to serve Olver and keep Perrin from suffering. Berlain exists to be a nurse and serve Galad so these ladies are now MORE likable????? Both RJ and Sanderson tried not to be sexist and Tried (try) to this but it’s clear they LIKE quieter supportive young women who are also “spunky” because that makes them better companions. That’s not much change from 50s cowgirl stories. I am going to say Egwene is the only exception. And she pays for it in more ways than one.

Just out of curiosity have you ever actually read any of Sanderson's non WOT work? Because pretty much none of the female main characters in Sandersons own books fit into this archetype at all... The Moiraine and Thom thing was awful though and that scene where they 'get together' is by far my least favourite thing Brandon has ever written. RJ is the one who set that up, though. Just one more of the long list of 'relationships' that were essentially based on 'Min saw it so they're in love for some reason. '.

I really like your view about why Ishamael did some of the things he did. Some time ago I was watching another CZcams couple who were reading the books and towards the last third of the series they frequently complained that Team Light never really lost and Rand especially went from victory to victory with no set backs. I always thought they were missing the point. The Dark One is not some evil landlord who wants to own all the real-estate in the world. His servants and especially the forsaken assume that he wants to control nations because that is what they want. I think that the only thing that mattered to the Shadow was grinding down the spirit of Rand until he willingly chose to help the Dark One break the Wheel. Put another way I think Ishamael was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. Yes Rand had victories but they came at a cost when he had to make sacrifices and block off parts of himself that made him human in order to keep going. The shadow's mistake was that they became target fixated on Rand and failed to see the others as of any great significance until near the end. By they Nynaeve and Mat and Perrrin & Egwene and Elayne had levelled up to the point where they were no longer easier targets and their various victories held off the advance of the Shadow and despair long enough for Rand to have his epiphany.

I literally never get "I'm so nice to you, you have to love me" from Tallanvor. I think it might be a you thing and not plain to read in the book.

What about the time he slut-shames her for being r*ped by Valda and then the narrative never seems to portray his failure to apologize as a necessary prerequisite for her to marry him?

Avi and the Wise Ones: I don't think she ever told them of her visions of him. They knew that she resisted doing her duty to the Aiel, as they saw it, by becoming a Wise One. Then they see similar behavior when she refuses to be his "tutor" and it makes sense that they didn't look for a different reason.
    -
If you talk to him-and especially listen-you should have no trouble remaining near him. Few men will send away a pretty young woman who listens to them. Perhaps he will let something slip.”
Aviendha grew stiffer by the word. When Bair finished, she spat, “I will not!” Dead silence fell, and every eye swung to her, but she stared back defiantly.
“Will not?” Bair said softly. “Will not.” She seemed to be tasting words strange in her mouth.
“Aviendha,” Egwene said gently, “no one is asking you to betray Elayne, only to talk to him.” If anything, the former Maiden of the Spear looked even more eager to find herself a weapon.
“Is this the discipline Maidens learn now?” Amys said sharply. “If it is, you will find we teach a harder. If there is some reason you cannot stay near to Rand al’Thor, speak it.” Aviendha’s defiance wilted a trifle, and she mumbled inaudibly. Amys’s voice took on a knife edge. “I said, speak it!”
“I do not like him!” Aviendha burst out. “I hate him! Hate him!” Had Egwene not known better, she would have thought her close to tears. The words shocked her, though; surely Aviendha could not mean it.
“We are not asking you to love him, or take him to your bed,” Seana said acidly. “We are telling you to listen to the man, and you will obey!”
    -
They don't actually start to push her towards Rand until the Maidens get that particular idea, and then everyone has the wrong idea of what's going on. But I don't think she ever told anyone (Communication? In *my* WoT?!) about any of it, because she saw every path as leading to more toh, and speaking of toh makes it worse.

Oooo, you just gave me an idea - spoilers for Everything Everywhere All at Once:
    .
    .
    .
    .
If Ishamael has seen every one of his infinite lives, and that turned him hyper-nihilist, then that's basically the same setup as Jobu Tupaki. And in that case, it highlights how, despite WoT and EEAAO being thematically similar, EEAAO's message is even more powerful. In WoT, Rand heals his own nihilism and his philosophizing enables him to take an action that saves the world. In EEAAO, it isn't enough to save the world that Evelyn saves herself through overcoming nihilism - it's equally and perhaps more important that she *saves her daughter from nihilism, too.* EEAAO's vision of enlightenment is that it is irreducibly interpersonal; by contrast, Rand never really has to save anyone else from nihilism. And if Ishamael's nihilism really does come from the pain of this eldritch horror of remembering all of his infinite lives, then finding a way to heal him of that nihilism (whether philosophically or magically) would've been a kind of compassion that I would've liked to see from Zen Rand.

One big difference between the Seanchan and the Whitecloaks is that the the Seanchan want to enlace the Aes Sedai instead of killing them, which makes it complicated because of the 3rd Oath.

The problem with Elaida is that, although she is self-motivated to maneuver herself towards people and positions of power, she was also tainted by Padan Fain/Mordeth. Fain himself states that he's "brushed them both (Niall and Elaida) with what he carried from Aridhol; they might possibly trust their own mothers, but never Al'Thor now". This means that Elaida wasn't just going mad with power. She was tainted with the corruption of Shadar Logoth. Morally, as individuals, she and Siuan may be similar, but Elaida was corrupted to act with a more evil/malicious intentions to the detriment of the Tower, while Siuan manipulated the Aes Sedai and nation rulers to the overall benefit of the Aes Sedai and the Tower.

Thanks for articulating why Talmanes has always irritated me and when Morgase’s embraces him, I was SO annoyed, but I didn’t think enough about him to figure out why. It is for sure that. He thinks his love ENTITLES him to hers AND I think RJ thought so too. That’s not the first or last time a guy thinks a woman does not know her own mind (Gawyn, Mat…) But with Gawyn and Mat, it’s not clear RJ agrees with them. I think he agrees with Talmanes. The Avi “romance”is another instance of a woman who does not know what she wants and the Creator seems to be the culprit there. Of course HE knows best.

To be fair, I don't think Tallanvor makes a move ever. It's been a minute since I read it because thier romance also annoys me. If I remember right, he loves Morgase, but doesn't think she's up for it, so he doesn't do anything about it. It's everyone around-especially Perin and Lini- that makes it a problem.

The ter-angreal in Rhuifean knew better than Aviendha about her future, though. She really didn't like that vision of the future, though (not least because she and Elayne had the understanding that Rand was an object Elayne ownded and Aviendha was going to stop him getting Little Rand looked after by anyone else).

Egwene should have survived the last battle, give me burned out Egwene (it still would not be fair) but she could have still hekped. They would need her vision to be fullfilled after the LB.
After her death we hear her talking to Rand so World of Dreams Egwene? Since the lines between the world being so thin, she can maybe under certain circumstances come to Randland???
I don't want the rest of the story to be without her. I know there is no more books to come but still

@@alexkoder1982 she'd still be a dreamer, very strong in the dream. Look at what Perrin can do. That's enough to be a wise one, and the White Tower would be linked to the Wise Ones anyway. They'd take her with an open heart and we know how determined she can be, she'll be a leading one in no time directly influencing the female channelers and the WT would surely still treat her with caution and deference
