Wow, you’re moving right along with this project honestly. Even without a shop to work in!

There is still some tinkering to do but overall it’s a usable machine now

With that leak around the bell housing I would use "the right stuff" made by permatex. It comes in a caulking gun tube and you can buy it at Napa. It seals on oily surfaces. It is as strong as windshield adhesive, so just remember that it pretty much welds the part on. I have had best results with 48 hours of cure time, before I add fluids.

I’ve had great luck with this international truck brand RTV, tough stuff but likes a clean surface. 1 hr set time the you can fill with oil. If it doesn’t hold up, I’ll have to pull the front axle and drop the oil pain and re-seal the oil pan to the engine block as well as the bell housing but at least I won’t have to split the tractor in half again. This is the 3rd time I’ve had it split like this, twice for the engine as I bought it non running with the engine hooked up or even bolted. By the time I got it running I found out I had transmission issues, so here we are

@@Timberland-Farms So you think that I just need a bead of sealant and around my 1970 case 580 ck that is leaking all 10 gallons of tranny fluid out of the flywheel Bell housing? Is it just an o-ring that stops the oil from getting into the electric components of the starter?

@MyLifeThai371 it’s rtv silicone that seals the starter to the engine block, the starter is internally sealed which I would imagine it’s some sort of o-ring or seal like you would see on an axle hub seal just mini

The transmission if it’s a power shuttle like mine, takes 19 quarts. Or 1 quart shy from 5 gallons.

@@Timberland-Farms Mine is the power shuttle like yours. Its been so many years since I tore the backhoe apart. The transmission pump sucked up the half moon key in 2013, and broke the shaft on the pump. Then in 2016 we were finally able to get the darn cab off to get at the tranny pump. The machine shop repaired the pump and I bolted it back in And that's as far as we got, because I had trouble getting the dash board to set on the steering column with all the wires in there. I see all that equipment in your yard. Is your dad an independent contractor?

Do you happen to have a scrapped out 580 transmission? I'm looking for a shift fork rod for first and secound shift fork.

Yes I do, I can pull one and ship to you. Contact me through Facebook. Look up Timberland farm’s Facebook page, it’s a picture of me and timber in a tractor for our profile. You can message me from there

Do the frictions need soaked first? Any frictions ive ever bought new needed soaked in fluid first.

The service manual never specified but I have seen that before and probably would not have hurt

      Shuttle parts

I got a parts backhoe but most of my parts Are straight from the Case IH dealer. I got the shuttle clutches from tractor parts ASAP. I’ll throw a link in the description on those clutch frictions as well as the part number

Thanks. I have a 580b that I'm afraid is going to need the same treatment

@@benstuart7405 no problem, I should have all the part numbers up there now. If you have any issues feel free to ask away! After splitting the backhoe in half, it really wasn’t that bad. Took about a month only working weekends with other things going on. I’d definitely do it again. Then you know what you are working with on your machine

If you don’t have a second machine like I was using my dads backhoe, you could use an engine hoist, bolt a couple trailer jacks to the engine somehow and roll the two halves apart. Would need a fairly smooth surface for that
