This worm that made me get rid of my tank I think it came from when I would hatch live shrimp. It put me off but I think I now want to start the hobby again must of come from the live plants maybe.
This has to be my favourite comment on this channel, so happy it helped and that you will give the hobby another go 👍
I just noticed them in my breeder and panicked lol I was like NOOOOOOOO then I was like oh ok I’ll keep ‘em 🤷
Cycling my first grown up tank and found these this morning. Ugh just looking at them I get ticklish in the worst way. Goosebumps all over. 🥴 glad to know they’re not evil parasites
Haha, I know they are weird looking things, but all good, good luck with th new tank 👍
@@aquamate Update: My Moscow white guppies and amano shrimp love their free snacks😅
So.... don't panic. Lol this was the most straight forward explanation I've found THANK YOU! :) as long as they're not going to kill my fish I'm happy to not disturb homeostasis.
Thank you, that mean alot, glad you enjoyed it
I have a big phobia of worms and my tank got detritus worms and I felt like I needed to throw my whole tank away. Thank you for some peace of mind.
Throw away the tank?
Love them. Usually see it as a sign of things are going well when I see these wee guys wriggling about.
*thank you,* man I just saw these in my tank and panicked so much, thought they were parasites and my betta was doomed
Exactly the same. Even with the Betta 😂
My Betta just stares at them from time to time lol
Same at 1st I thought they were Algee cause they’re green but the I saw them moving and I also have a beta lol
I’m so glad I found this video. I peeked into my fish tank and thought it was a dog hair so I tried to net it. Upon closer inspection I realized there were multiple little squiggles lining my tank and my heart stopped. My koi betta just recovered from pop-eye and I was so nervous it had something to do with that. So grateful for this video!!!
Just noticed these in my tank yesterday, thought they might be a parasite but now i literally don't need to worry, great video at the right time ha!
That's awesome, good luck with the tank
Exactly why I was looking these little worms up. I noticed a couple swimming up from some moss balls I bought for my first attempt at growing aquatic plants. Was worried they would be a parasite.
I love having extra microfauna in my tanks! I'm glad to hear they are harmless.
I use freshwater sumps for filtration on all of my tanks. I have a 125 gallon tank with its own sump. Two 40 gallon tanks each with their own sump. A 55-gallon tank with its own sump. And three 10 gallon tanks on a tower that are connected to each other with a sump on the bottom. What can I say my wife loves fish LOL. Anywho, I have a biosynthesis container in each one of those subs and it is drastically reduced my need for water changes; however as such I only clean out my sumps very seldomly outside of the main mechanical filtration so that I can keep the biological bacteria steady. What happens is a small buildup of the traders in the different chambers of the sump over time. When it does finally come time for me to do a water change I do about a 75% change and at the same time I clean out the substrate in the tank. At first transfer my fish to the quarantine and temporary Tower this way I can take my time on the tank and clean it very thoroughly oh, well I also on a contracting business in so there's times I get busy and the tank May sit for a couple of days even up to a week until I finally get the time to give it a full cleaning refill it and restart the sump. I do not clean the media Inside of My sump tanks, I simply remove the media and clean the tank itself. I can tell you now if I let one sit like that and then restart that sump, the detritus worms breed out of control over that time Of the sump sitting there they breed within the media. As soon as I start up my sump, literally my tank is flooded with thousands of these things. I know they're beneficial so I will allow them to cycle in the water column so that they can find a home within the substrate but typically how I get rid of them is simply adding a very fine foam filter pad to the sump which literally filters them out of the water column. I leave that pad in there until I only see a couple within the water column as I don't want to filter them all out since they are beneficial to the cleanup crew of the tank ecosystem.
Glad I decided to click this video,
Thought I had some serious future problems on my hand.
😌💨 sigh of relief.
Awesome, glad it helped you 👍
Thanks! I was so scared my fish had parasites.
Thank you for this video lol. Started a 10 gallon planted community tank and just saw one of these tiny guys on the glass and started to worry. Thought it might be some kind of parasite infection.
This was a relief to know… and this video is straight to the point… just what one needs sometimes… much appreciate it mate 👏🏻🤟🏻
You calmed me a lot aqua mate :D Thank you
I'm so glad I found your channel ive looked at others but you are breaking the information down and its so easy to follow, thanks you put my mind at ease about the d worms too.
Thank you, i appreciate that, glad tge video helped you
Thanks for the video, I saw these for the first time today wiggling around when I fed my fish, I panicked I must admit. I've only been keeping fish for a year, so still learning all the time. You have a new sub anyway, it's the least I can do.... thanks again.
Cheers Simon, glad the video helped you, good luck with your fish keeping journey
Thanks for this video! Noticed some in my tank a few days ago after having my tank for 6 months. Freaked out, bought melafix, treated my tank, and they are still there. But I’m glad to know they are harmless!
Glad to hear the video helped you, thanks heaps for watching
Oh man thanks so much! I'd never seen these little shits before, just did a water change and noticed them-panicked- put my fish in a bucket then watched your vid before I did anything rash 😂 cheers mate, great vid, straight to the point and stopped me from stressing 👍🏻
Great video, instant subscription! I love how you just get straight to the point and speak clearly.
Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it
Nicely done mate 👍 , they don't bother me either, 'sign of a healthy aquarium actually!!!
I just tell people if you don't like them suck them up as you see them on the glass, and cut down on feeding 'the tank' for abit. :)
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!! I was really worried 😅
Thanks mate really great video and explanation. Was just trying to have a look in and enjoy our setup and this bloody worm floated by. Put my mind straight to ease after a quick Google and your video :) subbed
Cheers man, glad it helped
WOW, I recently had one of my guppies pass away, I had her in a breeder box within the tank when she passed so I removed her and left the box in the tank for the next time I might need it. Noticed one of my other females has been getting harassed since the others passing so I moved her into the box this evening to give her a vacation from the males but after moving her in there I noticed one of these guys squiggling around in there with her and I totally lost my mind in fear, I thought my tank was doomed till I watched this video! So thank you, I subscribed for more awesome content!
sorry to here about the guppy you lost, not sure if you are aware but its best to keep more females then males, the males are always ready to mate and will harass the females so if you have more females then males they dont get so stressed out, glad the video helped you and thanks for the sub, appreciate it
@@aquamate thank you! I do know that, I originally had enough females but I had some issues with power outages and then I had to move my tank and between these things I had lost a few. So the ratio is off and I can't buy more females at the moment because the stores in my area won't sell live fish during Covid lockdown. It's been stressful, I tried to give away some of my males but no one wants them and they won't fit in in my other community tank because it's mainly larger Tetras and four super mean Molly's. I moved my neon tetras into my guppie tank because the mollys were so mean to them lol
you just got another subscriber mate! thanks for the video. short and straight to the point.
Cheers Naz
@@aquamate cheers mate. Also, double thumbs up. I'm from Melbourne too.
Thanks so much for this video clear straight-forward! New fish owner and freaked out seeing these worms and copepods! My betta loves to snack on them haha
Nice one bro - I just started stressing about these. My Oscar tank was crazy with those so I did a water change, see a few in my arowana tank but just a couple and then I just noticed in my planted I had a few. I should know about these by now but late night worries - Thanks for the video Aussie, I can sleep in peace brother.
They not bad, that good enough explanation
Thank you for explaining. I dont need to worry anymore. 😊
No worries, glad the video helped you
Great video mate, very informative, I have them in my new tank, but they are very beneficial to the tank, it shows its cycling so all gud
Thanks for the video! Saw these in my snapping turtle tank tonight. Must of come on it with some feeder fish I got recently.
Thanks for the info mate
I had this problem (even thousands of them) then I tried checking for solutions online when I came across your video. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I iintroduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass. It bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! I couldn't see a single worm on the glass! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!
I think anyway they can become a part of your eco system it's a win, glad it all worked out
Thanks for the info video much help🍻🤙
Just noticed these today. Little wriggling things. I was like ohhh no what’s that. Lol. Ok calmed down now. Thanks for your video
Glad the video helped, thanks for watching
thank you for this knowledge and infos a greatly appreaciated this video❤️
Glad you got something out of it, thanks for watching
thank you! mine seem Really small but I imagine the micro would is just as important :D
I really thought they were dangerous omg.... THANKS 🖤🖤🖤
Nice upload Josh 👍👏
cheers man
Thank you...that was short and nice explanation
Thanks for watching, appreciate it
Thanks for this video. I was already in panic mode.
Glad I could help
It's kinda funny - I spotted one of these free-swimming in my tank, only 2 weeks into cycling. I am pretty certain it was deliberately moving into the return from the power filter and riding that flow until it slowed, then swimming back up to do it again.
Thanks for information I was a bit concerned and worried for my betta fish. Got me scare for a second for a bit. I thought it was some parasites for a second.
What a relief, I thought they were a parasitic fish parasite.
Great video... Thank you sir
Thanks for watching
Not gonna lie, it freaked me out when I saw these in my new tank! I'm a new aquarium owner btw, didn't know these existed till now. Your video reassured me! I haven't added fish yet. I take it as a sign things are going good tho!
They probably hitch hiked with your rocks or plants. Free live food for your fish, just test your water and then you'll know when you can add fish 👍 Good luck
Omg thank u so much I saw these in my crawfish tank and then checked my betas tank and freaked out and was a bout to scub and disinfect the whole thing.
Tysm so helpful
Thank god I’m currently cycling a new tank and got worried after I saw them... I think they came from an Indian almond leaf I put it because they weren’t there when I put plants in, thank you for this lol
Awesome glad it helped and yeah they hitch-hike abit
I've had these for a few weeks, I wasn't sure what they were so I've been calling them squirmy worms in my mind because of the way they swim through the water. My tetras love to eat them if they are brave enough to show their little wormy faces during daylight.
I've seen this on my aquarium no cleaning , just water change. And i found out that these guys are good well, ok that's fine haha thanks! Xd
Just part of your eco system
Thank you! Took forever to figure out what they were. I dont like them in my dwarf frog tank, mostly bcs they look gross, but at least I know they won't harm them either.
Just part of your cool little eco system
Earthworms are annelids (segmented worm). Totally different than a nematode (round worm)
Spotted these thing a week ago in my turtle tank, mostly chilling on the glass further away from the filter. I also have trumpet snails and little water mites (thousands) on the glass and in the soil. My Goodness, I have created an ecosystem.🤣
A healthy eco system well done
Things things are really nothing to complain about in a tank. If you think these are icky, just be glad you arent in salt water. Look up "bristleworms".
I picked these up from some plant I purchased from a pet store. They've been with my tank for as long as it's been set up with no problems because there is no way to safely get rid of them apart from taking apart your whole tank and throwing out all your plants/substrate. Me betta and ghost shrimp also eat them.
Yeah they are a beneficial stow away in that case, thanks for watching
lol i just ganked some of these in straight fear, watched your video now i feel silly for panicking hahaha
I was the same at first then thought no, I need to learn more about these guys, glad I did. Thanks for watching
Ah, that is what they are so no worries.
I took that foo out yesterday wasn’t sure if it would hurt my fish, but I do think they came when I bought the live plants 🌱
Mine are gone now too, no more free food haha
This saved my little heart attack. I have an assassin snail, and there was one in his tank on his moss ball n I panicked bc the day before I thought I seen a worm come out of his shell? (Not the siphon that was out) but now I’m plowing it was j his little head eating the stuff off his shell 😥🥺
They are weird little creatures, glad yours is all good
Thank you 👍
New sub here. 😁 set up a small 20 litre 2 weeks ago as a sparkling gourami spawning/breeding. 4 days in and I have bubble nest n eggs (x 2 spawns in same bubble nest) 2 days later the first batch hatched then next day the second hatched. Currently have 5 and 6 day fry but also noticed tiny worms as you had visible on you glass. There’s no worms swimming in water etc only very minuscule approx 2 mm to 4 mm long and just a slither wide. I did find 3 very distinct flat worm (very obvious Planaria) with triangular head, 2 eyes in my other CPD tank all were in moss spawning dish, no others seen on glass nor in substrate that I could see, killed them instantly.
I’m a lil concerned about my gourami fry tank having such tiny fry in I do not want them predated on by worms etc. I’ve tried videoing but mobile phone doesn’t zoom in well enough. I feel they “may” be non harmful worms but even still I’m wanting them out. I’m awaiting some Planaria treatment in the mail coming soon and hope that will be safe n affective in a fry tank. Until then I’ll try suck them out with a pipette. I may try do a siphon on edges around substrate but the fry are literally 3 mm big and don’t want to suck them up so it’s a lil hard to even do a water change as yet. It had 3 adult gourami in for a week until fry arrived before removing n placing back in community tank so the only larger food given was during that week. I’ve not done any water change or clean since set up. Is there any way I can contact u via messenger n send a vid of worms for you to suss out? Lisa in WA
Yeah sure search for aqua mate fish keeping on Facebook and send me a message, and thanks for joining up 👍
Got this on my betta tank now, and free snack for him 😁
Free Food Woooo
All of my tanks have them. But I find them helpful so I have an African dwarf frog and he spends all day hunting them because the fish I have eat the food I feed him before he can get them. But man he loves the worms. I actually leave them in the tank because my fish love them a lot. And I dont "gravel vac" often my snails and the worms keep the planted tank looking good. Every now and then i will go and stur the substrate to kick them up so fish can snack as they float around.
I just panicked today! I saw them sticking inside the shell of my mystery snail!
Thank God they are not dangerous. Thank you for helping me dodge a small panic attack :P
Glad to help thanks for watching the channel
They make great food for nano fish!
Absolutely, my tetras enjoyed them
Jesus I just saw one and thought it was some kind of parasite that spawned lol. Glad to know they're harmless.
Glad you found it helpful
i bought red root floaters from a local site, seen amazon reviews saying some people buying them had hitch hikers and some good some bad. this business said they are grown in sterile environments so any product you buy is sterile until you open it like a bandaid. after 3 days of having the new plant in my tank ive noticed these little swimming guys. cant confirm its from the plants but i didnt have them until i got them. kinda scared me at first but the more im reading the less harmful they seem. at first i noticed just a few but it seems like theres a ton in the tank. i have my betta in there but added some guppy fry and have been over fed so that could be my problem right there!
Yeah sounds like your right, at least you now know that its ok and youve got some free live food. Glad the video helped you, and thanks for supporting the channel
@@aquamate ive been scanning the bottom of my tank and im pretty sure they were there before i got the floaters. i see them between the glass and substrate and ive noticed them before but never thought they were worms lol. thanks for the video it definently helped! definently worth the sub!
came across these today Thought my new cherry shrimp has somehow scratched the heck outa my acrylic Hex tank only to notice them moving , cracks/hair shouldn't move, glad they anith the ought worms tho(which are FAT not thin and hair like)
Just another part of your eco system, good luck with the shrimp
I just bought some freeze dried pond fish to feed my aquatic turtles yesterday and woke up today to see a dead white worm in the bottom of the tank. Can they be transported this way?
#AquaMatesGotWorms
lol i had to pin this, hope your feeling better
LOL
lol 😂
Done multiple water changes
Still these little works are not eliminated
At least they are beneficial to your tank
I got a moss ball recently and I think that's where my lil dudes came from. Turned the filter on after feeding today and boom, about 15 or 20 of these shot straight out. I hope my frogs and Khulis eat them lol.
Free food haha
My tetras love them ❤
Same here, thanks for watching
This vídeo has a lot of great information but, I only have one question
Can this thing hurt neocaridinas?
I had a male batta in my tank for almost a year, but cause I didn't pay a lot of attention, he got sick and died from constipation. I didn't shut down the aquarium because I have snails on it, but today while I was looking I saw those larvas and immediately thought "how the hell did a mosquito lay eggs in here? The water is moving!"
Now I know it's not mosquito, but since I'm thinking about getting cherry shrimps, I'm really concerned if they can hurt them
No they are harmless to shrimp
I came across them and was worried if they would harm my fish and shrimps
is it bad for eggs? im breeding flowerhorb and i saw some detritus
Cool
Ahh thats what they are. I don't need to stress anymore. That's exactly what I to myself
Awesome Isaac glad It helped
Love worms
My ones are huge ive left them flourish in my frog tank and there awsome i have like 2000 of em the big ones are some like 3cm long
Do the frogs eat them?
I saw one and I was literally like:…time to clean the tank…WITH FIRE
Haha good result they are just food 👍
A local Corydora near you wants to meet.
I have these tiny worm-like specks on my aquarium glass.. trying to figure out what it is. I scrape and scrub and they appeared again almost instantly.
hopefully this video helped then?
what if there’s kind of a lot of them.. they kinda gross looking
The only issue with alot of them is if they are stealing oxygen from your fish, but then your fish should really be eating them too
Young mollies and guppies will eat them.
HELP. I thought I have this but , my ones don’t move like this , very slim worm like white parasite but it swims like snake . Suggestions?
I have worms like this in my tank but they’re living in the substrate.. are these an issue?
No
I do regular water changes & vacuum in my turtle tank so they won’t harm them either ?
you might just end up taking them out doing that which is ok, some people dont like the look of them, thanks for watching and commenting
Amen
Will detritus worms always come with live plants? I want to have them in a tank when I get African dwarf frogs.
Not always, ask your lfs if they have any in any tanks and ask for some maybe
If there a max length to detritus worms? I'm in that stress mode you mentioned. 😅
I knew about detritus worms, and the idea didn't bother me. The more of these natural helpers I have, the better for the tank, I think. But saw a worm floating in my water. Totally freaked me out, since I've never seen _that_ before. Managed to suck the second one I saw out.
Very thin, like thread or hair, and red. Not entirely sure on length, but I think it's longer than what is shown in your video.
Any help would be much appreciated.
hmmm, you can get fresh water bristle worms that are larger, which can still help as a clean up crew member, but, they can ge pretty large and ugly i think.
Lookup Aqua Mate Fish Keeping on Facebook and send me a photo, would be curious to see what it is
@@aquamate Done. Thank you!
I first saw them today on my glass. My guppies are eating them, hopefully they will be okay.
They will, its a good snack for them
Hello,it's 2nd day of nitrogen cycling of my new aquarium and i notice that type of worm in the bottom of the tank.
There's so many, is it normal?
Yeah that's really similar to what happened with me, your fish will be in for a treat when you add them
Thank u my man helped me alot 🫡
What kind of aquatic worms have plants attached to them? 😅
I saw them in my new tank that I am cycling for my betta and can't stand the sight of it thus, restarted the entire tank by washing everything with hydrogen peroxide & aquarium salt.
2nd try after another long process, no sight of detritus thus added my fish but on day 4 I spotted them again... Must have been those moss balls..
The issue is they are really small currently which looks like specks of dust (that wiggles) up close and my betta doesn't seem to eat them. I do hope they don't grow any bigger for me to notice without being up close.
Glad to know they aren't as bad as I thought but for now, I stopped touching the water entirely with bare hands because I don't want to get any worms on my hands. 😨
Haha nobody wants wormy hands haha.
I'm suprised your betta isn't eating them, he may start to at some point, once he realises they can be food.
What about the little random snails
the world is Full of worms.......
Nice job Josh :)
i love that they are in the tank
