    This worm that made me get rid of my tank I think it came from when I would hatch live shrimp. It put me off but I think I now want to start the hobby again must of come from the live plants maybe.

    I use freshwater sumps for filtration on all of my tanks. I have a 125 gallon tank with its own sump. Two 40 gallon tanks each with their own sump. A 55-gallon tank with its own sump. And three 10 gallon tanks on a tower that are connected to each other with a sump on the bottom. What can I say my wife loves fish LOL. Anywho, I have a biosynthesis container in each one of those subs and it is drastically reduced my need for water changes; however as such I only clean out my sumps very seldomly outside of the main mechanical filtration so that I can keep the biological bacteria steady. What happens is a small buildup of the traders in the different chambers of the sump over time. When it does finally come time for me to do a water change I do about a 75% change and at the same time I clean out the substrate in the tank. At first transfer my fish to the quarantine and temporary Tower this way I can take my time on the tank and clean it very thoroughly oh, well I also on a contracting business in so there's times I get busy and the tank May sit for a couple of days even up to a week until I finally get the time to give it a full cleaning refill it and restart the sump. I do not clean the media Inside of My sump tanks, I simply remove the media and clean the tank itself. I can tell you now if I let one sit like that and then restart that sump, the detritus worms breed out of control over that time Of the sump sitting there they breed within the media. As soon as I start up my sump, literally my tank is flooded with thousands of these things. I know they're beneficial so I will allow them to cycle in the water column so that they can find a home within the substrate but typically how I get rid of them is simply adding a very fine foam filter pad to the sump which literally filters them out of the water column. I leave that pad in there until I only see a couple within the water column as I don't want to filter them all out since they are beneficial to the cleanup crew of the tank ecosystem.

      @@aquamate thank you! I do know that, I originally had enough females but I had some issues with power outages and then I had to move my tank and between these things I had lost a few. So the ratio is off and I can't buy more females at the moment because the stores in my area won't sell live fish during Covid lockdown. It's been stressful, I tried to give away some of my males but no one wants them and they won't fit in in my other community tank because it's mainly larger Tetras and four super mean Molly's. I moved my neon tetras into my guppie tank because the mollys were so mean to them lol

    I had this problem (even thousands of them) then I tried checking for solutions online when I came across your video. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I iintroduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass. It bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! I couldn't see a single worm on the glass! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!

    New sub here. 😁 set up a small 20 litre 2 weeks ago as a sparkling gourami spawning/breeding. 4 days in and I have bubble nest n eggs (x 2 spawns in same bubble nest) 2 days later the first batch hatched then next day the second hatched. Currently have 5 and 6 day fry but also noticed tiny worms as you had visible on you glass. There’s no worms swimming in water etc only very minuscule approx 2 mm to 4 mm long and just a slither wide. I did find 3 very distinct flat worm (very obvious Planaria) with triangular head, 2 eyes in my other CPD tank all were in moss spawning dish, no others seen on glass nor in substrate that I could see, killed them instantly.
    I’m a lil concerned about my gourami fry tank having such tiny fry in I do not want them predated on by worms etc. I’ve tried videoing but mobile phone doesn’t zoom in well enough. I feel they “may” be non harmful worms but even still I’m wanting them out. I’m awaiting some Planaria treatment in the mail coming soon and hope that will be safe n affective in a fry tank. Until then I’ll try suck them out with a pipette. I may try do a siphon on edges around substrate but the fry are literally 3 mm big and don’t want to suck them up so it’s a lil hard to even do a water change as yet. It had 3 adult gourami in for a week until fry arrived before removing n placing back in community tank so the only larger food given was during that week. I’ve not done any water change or clean since set up. Is there any way I can contact u via messenger n send a vid of worms for you to suss out? Lisa in WA

But man he loves the worms. I actually leave them in the tank because my fish love them a lot. And I dont "gravel vac" often my snails and the worms keep the planted tank looking good. Every now and then i will go and stur the substrate to kick them up so fish can snack as they float around.

    i bought red root floaters from a local site, seen amazon reviews saying some people buying them had hitch hikers and some good some bad. this business said they are grown in sterile environments so any product you buy is sterile until you open it like a bandaid. after 3 days of having the new plant in my tank ive noticed these little swimming guys. cant confirm its from the plants but i didnt have them until i got them. kinda scared me at first but the more im reading the less harmful they seem. at first i noticed just a few but it seems like theres a ton in the tank. i have my betta in there but added some guppy fry and have been over fed so that could be my problem right there!

    This vídeo has a lot of great information but, I only have one question
    Can this thing hurt neocaridinas?
    I had a male batta in my tank for almost a year, but cause I didn't pay a lot of attention, he got sick and died from constipation. I didn't shut down the aquarium because I have snails on it, but today while I was looking I saw those larvas and immediately thought "how the hell did a mosquito lay eggs in here? The water is moving!"
    Now I know it's not mosquito, but since I'm thinking about getting cherry shrimps, I'm really concerned if they can hurt them

    If there a max length to detritus worms? I'm in that stress mode you mentioned. 😅
    I knew about detritus worms, and the idea didn't bother me. The more of these natural helpers I have, the better for the tank, I think. But saw a worm floating in my water. Totally freaked me out, since I've never seen _that_ before. Managed to suck the second one I saw out.
    Very thin, like thread or hair, and red. Not entirely sure on length, but I think it's longer than what is shown in your video.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

  • @fany9400
    @fany9400 Před 2 lety

    I saw them in my new tank that I am cycling for my betta and can't stand the sight of it thus, restarted the entire tank by washing everything with hydrogen peroxide & aquarium salt.
    2nd try after another long process, no sight of detritus thus added my fish but on day 4 I spotted them again... Must have been those moss balls..
    The issue is they are really small currently which looks like specks of dust (that wiggles) up close and my betta doesn't seem to eat them. I do hope they don't grow any bigger for me to notice without being up close.
    Glad to know they aren't as bad as I thought but for now, I stopped touching the water entirely with bare hands because I don't want to get any worms on my hands. 😨

    • @aquamate
      @aquamate  Před 2 lety

      I'm suprised your betta isn't eating them, he may start to at some point, once he realises they can be food.
