“Growing up it was hard not to hear CCR’s Fortunate Son on the radio, on TV or even at the county fair. The groovy backbeat and sloshy hi-hats that introduce John Fogerty’s timeless lyrics written so many years ago could be found everywhere. While it may be true to say that Fortunate Son could be seen as a political song we think it’s bigger than that. For us, Fortunate Son is an inspirational song. For that reason we’d like to dedicate the song to the most inspirational person we’ve ever had in our lives, our late manager Jack Flanagan. Jack Flanagan was no Fortunate son. He worked tirelessly and passionately all the while keeping a razor-sharp sense of humor until his last days. Thank you, Jack, for making us better than we ever thought we could be.” Jean-Paul Gaster
“Fortunate Son” was mixed by 6X Grammy Award winner and Clutch collaborator, Vance Powell (Wolfmother, The Raconteurs, Arctic Monkeys).
In the video that accompanies this release, Tim Sult pays homage to Jack Flanagan by playing Jack’s beloved 90’s Les Paul. The video was shot at J Robbins’ Magpie Cage Recording Studio in Baltimore, MD. J Robbins produced the Clutch albums “Robot Hive/Exodus” and “Strange Cousins From The West” and he recorded all of the WM Vault Series singles.

CCR were way ahead of their time because they wrote a perfect Clutch song back in 1969.
You win
LMMFAO cheers!
Greatest comment ever
Well played, Mr. Eugenius The Great, well played.
Perfect Clutch song and the best protest song ever written.
it's criminal how underrated Clutch is.
This is a good thing. Leaves more for us to enjoy, those that “get it” and don’t give a shit about critics
Word!
Totally fn agree
Irish Ron thats shit logic right there. Why is it a good thing for less people to know about it and not be able to enjoy it?
…or how underrated the production and auto-tune is? Not sure about this, doesn't sound genuine. The vocals in particular. The guy, while he's clearly got a voice, doesn't quite hit the nail on the head in the timing of his delivery. Bad sign.
My son listened to Clutch one time in the womb...he was born with a full beard
Is Neil Fallon your son's real father?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😄😄😄😄
Is your son Chuck Norris?
@@AntoineWG I wish
I want to dedicate this to my father. Viet Nam veteran, DaNang Class of '66. RIP Dad, I love you. 5-24-42, 1-19-22.
❤
My dad was Marine Corp in DaNang 66 to 68 🇺🇸
Amen bro..
Also My dad RIP 47-92
Such a different war than my war in Iraq. I love our Vietnam vets. Canopy jungle vs urban combat. They were true bad asses.
@@deacongowan909 Thank you for your service.
This is like reaching to the bottom of what you think is an empty cooler and finding one more beer . Hell yeah..
Inside the ribcage no doubt. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the best shit I read all year 😂
Best. Description. Ever.
Best description ever.
But if your reaching into what you think is an empty cooler.. do you really truly think it’s empty?
they could do a whole CCR album and id buy it.
Clutch could do an entire album of amp static and sheet metal grinding together for 45 minutes and I'd buy it.
I second this
Me too!!! I love this band!!
Lol it would be cool
Truth, I want to hate this but Clutch kills it.
i want this played at my funeral, and if it’s not, i’m not going.
I had heart set on Simple Man by Skynyrd ,but I would love to have Clutch sing it as my ashes get blow out of a cannon! The 3" diameter barrel is ready I'm working on the carridge which is built around a Banshee axle.....
Cool 😎 post...
I love that. I don't want to be at my own furanal
I will never die.
@@stevenlindsey2056 'Merica Fuck yeah!
I’ve been listening to Clutch for ~20 years, they’ve aged like fine wine ✌️
Absolutely...... I love this version of the CCR classic....nuff said.
I think you mean like a fine burbon...because they still pack the punch :)
As an old Creedence fan, I knew Clutch would knock this one outta the park.
They damn sure did.
You damn Skippy bud
Fuckin A!
Amen
How could you not think "Oh, hell yeah. Gotta check it out."
I Just sent this to my dad who used to be a CCR fan he is 82, he probably won't like the front man singing this song because it's hard rock rendition of this song not I like it! My mom and dad thought they were so cool when they bought CCR'S album! I tried to tell them their music isn't that good!
This man has a voice like a sledgehammer.
Try thermonuclear bomb and you will come close
They should do some Motorhead covers!
Hell, they should cover every damn song
@@nailgun4433 I saw them play with Motorhead in the Nottingham, UK years ago. Amazing show!
I know right, i played this for my 12 year old nephew and he grew a Beard. Lol
One of the greatest songs ever written covered by one of the most underrated bands ever.
Really any rock station should be playing this....its wierd
I accidentally discovered Clutch for the first time today when a friend said that their "Fortunate Son" cover was great. You have a new fan.
Same almost, discovered them about a year ago and said wtf, such a great bearded menagerie of great sounds... I did em.
Looks like that old YT algorithm finally did some good. Found me a new band I should’ve known about 20 years ago
its true. if you go all the way back you will find that their music has evolved and changed style quite a bit, but with a seasoned ear, they "havent" changed. most notably, the album transnational speedway has elements far from what you heard here.
one of the few musicians who actually get better over time. .....some of the few musicians who actually are musicians
Welcome to the fan club :D You're in for a treat if you're just discovering them
See them live if you can.
I only wish I could go back an hear Elephant Riders and Jam Room for the first time again.
I live in Australia and Bald Eagles just flew over my house!
Yes Indeed!!!
Peter McMillan I live in the Sunny Coast and found this band just yesterday morning, sitting in the car, rain pissing down, waiting from enough light to go for a surf. Doesn’t get any better.
Best CZcams comment of the day! LOL
They're the Air Force American Eagles.
I live in Canada and I have one mounted on my wall. Cost me $800.
I’m a 63 yr old male and really diggin this version of CCR
Clutch is the only band that can do a version of this song, and it makes sense.
Best Live band on this Prison Planet.
Got privilege if being front row for Book of bad decisions tour. Just WOW
Agreed seen them a few times live .was fantastic!
Anyone who hasn't it's a must. Got to my channel Riot Fest 2018. Need more moments with Neil like that for sure!!
A M A Z I N G period.
I’ve seen them 36 times. They kill it every time
My beard just got 3 inches longer listening to this
Am shit at growing beards but after 2 listens to this I now have one like a 70s porn star's bush!!
Am shit at growing beards but after 2 listens to this I now have one like a 70s porn star's bush!!
Let me tell you, it ain't my beard that grew 3 inches longer listening to this.
Mine too!
My d*ck just got 3 inches longer.
Honestly, anyone who covers this has balls.
Well done gents, this is beautiful and compliments the song! Bravo I've just discovered a great band.
its a deep clear pool son...enjoy da swim
What a brilliant version, faithful to the original but with a heavy rock feel and angrier.
When my old man who served his country in Vietnam loves this remake speaks volumes to the talent of clutch
Tell him..semper paratus from Europe
After listening to this gloriousness over a dozen times, I've come to the conclusion that Clutch should do an album of CCR covers. I think John Fogerty would approve.
Definitiv
I concur.
I dont know if Fogerty would approve but they should do it anyway. This rocks!
I think fogerty might even guest on that record
I agree 100%
THANKS! I'm 68 years old, but I LOVE IT!
I'm 66 and I love clutches sound
RIP Jack Flanagan

Thanks for posting this Nobby!!
This cover did CCR tremendous justice. I believe even John Fogerty would have been proud.
John is still living😉 and touring.
My dad passed away two years ago, he was a huge fan of CCR. Thanks for this.
He would of loved this version. 😊
This is the most ridiculously awesome version of Fortunate Son.
Damned Skippy!
Damn - I was at a concert in Gothenburg listening to this band - it was one of the best concerts ever. (at the time I was sound-technician) Pure HARD rock band... Same enuiqe voice as Mr. Fogerty - thank you for this shout out 🤙
Lead singer sounds absolutely epic
The almighty Clutch covering the almighty CCR! Brilliant. Rest in peace Jack
Just when you think Clutch can’t get any better.
Then this.
What a fantastic sound mix! Clutch totally nailed this cover.
This is the best cover of CCR's classic song I've ever heard! That guy's voice is a thunderstorm!
This CCR title has been covered so many times (too many I'd rather say) that it becomes really boring, but here with Clutch, I must admit that this version is by very very very far, the best I've heard.
Amen Sir!
🙏
👍👍
My grand nephew's named Clutch just for yall. His dad played in a local band but loved yall. Rock on!!!!!!!!!
Clutch is one of those bands who have toured a lot and found their audience that way. Clutch will never sell platinum records, but they are steady and have made a long career. Clutch will keep going for as long as they please.
Clutch is awesome and this Rocks!
Im gonna start a band called pressure plate and see if we can open for them.
As a shop teacher thats the best comment on this thread
Respect! Touché
OK, I will start one called FlyWheel, and we will watch from the cheap seats.
And add a heavy metal band from Des Moines called Slipclutch
@@MrTruckerf with special guest "Throwout Bearing"
I just stumbled across Clutch last week. A quick death in Texas. I have never heard them on the radio. I'm happy CZcams put them on a play list for me.
As CCR was a staple in the soundtrack of my childhood, I will simply say thank you Clutch.
And, here's to you Mama.
badass once again...and the thank you to jack at the end....tears!....beautifully done gentlemen
"Ramble Tamble" ...CCR's masterpiece...I can't think of a more suitable band to cover it.
That's a deep track right there...not to many know that one
What a great song that is
Down the road I go!!!
word
How did I get 68 years old and just find Clutch?
It is so rare to feel the bands energy these days. Fantastic work! Wow!
This song should be track 1 on a "Now That's What I Call Boogaloo 2020"
I'd buy it
This comment wins the internet. As of this morning (15, April 2021) , it just became Waaaay more of a possibility than it was yesterday
@@silentbutviolent63 Ha! Right?
This might possibly be the only good CCR cover in existence.
@shadrock99 No way, Clutch blows theirs out of the water.
Cat powers as a damn good version of this song, but it’s a little slower. It has more feelings in it
@shadrock99 Whatever dude...lol....you're on shrooms or something then :)
Nirvana covered the Bad Moon Rising.
In my opinion u cant beat Creedence version. The voice of Fogerty its like fresh wind man...This Clutch version its ok but doesnt give the feeling that makes me love that song. I like more the Dropkick Murphys version but it doesnt get near the original either. Good cover? Somebody is watching me by Warmen man...or I put a Spell on you by Creedence...yeah man, good vibes
I love every note of this passionate version!!!
Whoever the guy was, this song´s dedicated to by Clutch, respect and rest in peace....
MANCHESTER CT 1999. CLUTCH, LB and Sevendust!!! Rowdy parking lot crowds, cops and tear gas!!! Those beautiful days!!
Ladies and gentlemen...this is Rock N Roll!
Been listening to Clutch for at least 20 years highly underrated!
Probably the only cover I have listened to all the way through.
God bless America
Salute for Jack Flanagan the greatest manager a group of guys could have.
Absolutely stellar! First cover I’ve seen that can keep up with CCR! Keep it up, guys, never knew the Elephant Cavalry served in ‘Nam!
Another example why Clutch is the best band on the planet.
This man can destroy a wall only with his voice...
Clutch changed my life I'm not overstating anything
Jenni Whittle
Thank you very much for the show in Lyon last Sunday. Best wishes to all the Band !
That guy’s voice is like a cannon!
Neil Fallon. My nomination for the greatest voice in rock and roll.
Always been a fan! He's a short guy with a booming voice!
Hear him in "Die to Live" by Volbeat! 😲
and he's pointing it at you!
Noel Fallon could sing a phone book and make it sound epic.
Listening to Spacegrass in 1995, never in a trillion years would I have guessed Clutch would nail a cover of CCR 25 YEARS later.
I ve heard of this band for more than 20 years. Only now ive listen to them. Wish ive done it sooner. They are brilliant.
The greatest American band of the past 30 years. My God they are great.
I was about to reply, "Aerosmith?"
Then I realized that it would've been true 30 years ago. Now I'm 38 and Aerosmith from the 70's is actually old for real. Weird.
I would agree. Also Mastodon.
shadrock99 I’ve seen Nirvana
Not Clutch as far as I am concerned
This is the coolest thing I've heard in a long time
Damn right!
Can't stop listening :D
Former Special Forces dude here. Wow my God Clutch you guys did a great fuckong job!!!!
Jack used to reply to my email requests for a press pass, every time in SoCal, always had one waiting for me. Semper Clutch. RIP Jack! See you backstage upstairs!
One of the greatest bands on the face of the Earth. Awesome!
I click this as fast as I could
Me too!

Heard it on Spotify a week or so ago
Same here.
I used to go to their concerts all the time. So much so that they started to recognize us at their shows. Never a disappointment. You guys STII ROCK
Of all the covers of this song that I've heard so far, this one seems to have captured the spirit of it in a way that nobody else has. It's definitely my favorite cover.
I needed a cover of this . This song just doesn’t get played enough .
theback bencher The sarcasm is deafening lmao
was drinking water while listening to this. now it turned into whiskey
Bang, bang, bang. Love these guys. much love from Wheeling West Virginia.
Ive been a clutch fan for over 10 years and just recently got very into CCR and this song is the perfect combo of them both. Absolutely love it
I’d love to be in a Pub and these guys rock up and belt out some great music like this.
If any band are fortunate enough to carry off this cover version, and do it justice, it's them lil ole boys from, Maryland 😁👍🤘
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALL MY FALLEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS HOOAH
Finally a CCR cover I don't hate. Everyone always butchers CCR's music when they try to cover it but this was great.
Clutch is a like a good joint passed amongst friends.
First song ive heard was electric worry, 4 month it pushed me like pepp to start my renovation of an old farmhouse!!!! Vamanos, vamanos!! Alex, Germany
Yeah...I need to 'ear more of it!
You mean all spitty on one end? 🤓
@@joeschmoe3202 pre covid joint
Great cover of an EPIC Viet Nam era song. I get the chills everytime I hear this. I grew up in the 60s but was a bit too young to get drafted. Friends and family members, however, were not too young. The fear of getting drafted permeated the neighborhood while while grim color film footage (and some still black and white) of the war appeared like clockwork on the nightly new. This era fueled some of the most inspired music in rock history.
His voice goes that high? Damn. This is my fav CCR song and this is fucking awesome. Gonna listen over again.
dedicated to all soldiers world wide we are all brothers after all.
After seeing them play this live, the studio version can’t compete!
Great voice! What a performance!
Whoever downvoted this song, I pity you, because you must not be able to grow a beard.
😅😅😅😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
I'll bet they are still trying to stretch their clit and shoving oranges down there
Needs a hearing aid
Jack would be proud, what a rockin' good way to farewell a much-loved friend. Awesome sound from an awesome band!
I think my nearest neighbor is almost a mile away. I need way more speakers. They should be hearing this.
A Huey helicopter just buzzed my house...
My speakers just aren't man enough for this.. 😍
Rickenbacker and Les Paul, hell yeah, power and soul.
The sound and style of Clutch is a perfect fit for this song.
If anyone could sing a john fogerty song it's this guy
the best version ever.
These guys are one serious Kick ass rock band .
I can’t remember the last time a cover song sounded so badass
