Kevin Spacey had numerous rape/harrasment claims against him throughout the decades. Asia's case is much more murky and is more of a "he said, she said" case.

Why do you believe every female accuser but when it's a guy it's "complicated" when there's more proof here than many of the other cases. Age of consent means you have the ability to give consent but he said it was against his will so consent would still be a factor even if it was another state.

They could definitely defend themselves against a man very easily and give a man a good beating if they needed to defend themselves. So saying that a man has the power to defend himself against a girl or rather woman is not always correct and not always the case. Each situation is different.

I am curious if there is a pernicious form of sexism going on here in the "be gentle" approach of impugning Asia Argento. As if men are men and they can take fierce criticism, but women need be treated lightly even if they are predators. Socially we see this dichotomy most brazenly when it comes to teachers sleeping with their students as an example. Here it's more subtle so this is not an accusation as much as it's just an observation.

At 6:20 Matt starts coming up with excuses for Asia Argento's behavior saying she was initially coming from a place of fear - something he would never had said if the roles were reversed (as many others have pointed out).

What is Ben talking about with the age of consent comments? That only comes into play if both people are of the same legal status ie both minors or both adults. Age of consent means jack squat when she's 37 and he's under 18.
The age of consent does matter. Generally speaking, both partners must be of legal age to give consent. If he was under age, then she committed statutory rape. Also, the age of consent varies from state to state, ranging from 16-18.
If he was a minor, which is under 18 in EVERY state, then it's statutory rape even if he gives consent. That consent age would only come into play if she was also under 18 but at least of consent age.

Minnesota's age of consent is sixteen which is on the low side when it comes to US. We are made to think that eighteen is across the country because that's how it works on cop shows, and legally you have to be eighteen to be in the sex industry. But the truth of the matter is every state has it's own laws when it comes to consent. Look it up.

Can I just put one opinion into the opposite direction, just for the sake of variety. If Asia would not been 37, but 24 - it would perfectly, right? Right? Why? Because as a film community we glorified the "Call Me by Your Name" movie (approval rating of 95%). Why is this any different is so beyond me. You take one situation and put it in the entirely different context - get a totally different public opinion. Guadagnino has deliberated over the idea of a sequel. More of that story about sex with 17-year-olds. But why so? I think this is a huge "Call It Like It Is" call-out. Things are not clear - we all drown in hypocriticism. At least Asia's story has put an end to that gender-specific public backlash. If 37 year old man had an affair with a 17 year old girl, it would be explosive. Asia has the same public opinion now.

this is a he said, she said case for the most part. this isn't weinstein or spacey.
This isn't an attempt to refute metoo or to show that men don't do this, but that this isn't just an issue of men in power, it's an issue of people in power. Calling out only men will poison the movement. There's a lot of grey area involved in this and there are no easy solutions, but giving the worst of people consequences for their actions will hopefully help mitigate the eternal issues of power imbalances in the future.

Obviously depression is a natural illness of the mind that has many factors, but you have to kinda wonder if any of this had to maybe add to the depression that caused AB to take his own life. I cannot believe how can anyone accuse another person for someone's suicide....like pls she is not at fault here unless AB specially mentioned her in a letter (even that could be refuted because the mind of a mentally ill person doesn't think clearly...there are so many cases of suicide where the person got in a fight with a family member before their death just because they didn't want them to stop them from killing themselves). These things are complex and it is not right to assume that she had anything to do with AB's suicide.

I have been watching WTF for a couple years now. I haven't always agreed with what has been said on the show, but I've always respected your opinions. I'm pretty disturbed by the way you're addressing this issue and the double standard that is going on here. I respected you all to handle this with more class than to simultaneously shrug your shoulders whenever accusatory information was brought up. I agree that a person can be a "shirt and a skin" and this does not discredit the #MeToo movement, however, where is your fervor against the repulsive actions she committed? You talk about the age of consent being 14 in some places as if that is an excuse rather than that being ridiculous. She was a woman in her upper thirties when he was seventeen - to not state the obvious, which is that it is an utterly disgusting thing to do (no matter what the age of consent) is to be a blatant hypocrite. I mean, the previous video was comedically short to address such a serious issue. I had hoped you would redeem yourself in this. But you spend two of the six minutes defending her actions by saying the age of consent changes. Being a grown person with power over a teenager and having sex with them is WRONG. How can you possibly miss that? Why isn't it being said? Remove your political affiliation and how this could hurt/lessen movements in it and think how, at its core, what it is. For Ben to state it's a "he said, she said situation" or that the photos "don't prove anything" goes against what has been said in the past in that we have to believe the victims or else it gives power to the abusers.
They are not saying they don’t believe Bennett, they are having a nuanced discussion. At no point did they say Asia was innocent and Bennett was guilty - they laid out the facts and the complexities. The story isn’t over, it will continue to develop and they’ll cover it as it goes along. If and when we discover more of the truth, they’ll come out with it. Also “he said, she said” is how the courts/lawyer often refer to the difficulty of these cases - they’re saying it’s hard to determine when all we have is conflicting reports from two people; it’s not that they aren’t gonna try to figure it out, they are! And to be fair, Ben was implying that the photo was pretty damning - it doesn’t prove sex, but it is very likely.
aaronpolitical a 37-year old woman giving alcohol to a 17-year old boy and having sex with him IS disgusting. this has nothing to do with being conservative. it's statutory rape. if it had been a 17 year old girl accusing a 37 year old man of the same thing, you and these guys would not be NEARLY as forgiving as they are to asia in this video.
