    When you're driving a Focus RS, it feels like you're sitting in a Focus. That's the problem.

      Yep and you'll be way behind in the Golf with its plasticky leather interior and unimpressive pretentious shiny plastic dash once the Focus has had its ***warranty approved**** Mountune remap and upgrade.
      The only response Golf owners have to the FRS is to whinge about the interior. Thankfully most of us who buy a hot hatch buy it because we want a good driving experience, but if you buy for comfort may I suggest a BMW 320d or Audi A4, both nicer interiors than the cheap Golf.

    • @xtrekrex
      @xtrekrex Před 8 lety +17

      Mr Ed Way behind in the Golf? Pfft yeah I've had my MKV GTI for 7 years now and it still has a better interior than a Focus. I get a good driving experience out of my GTI AND the interior has lasted me for so long. If I had money to buy another car and not care about driving it everyday to work then yeah fuck I'll get a Focus based interior. But when I'm looking to get a car I look at everything and not just what's under the hood. That's why the R beats the RS because it's simply a better overall car.

    • @mred9161
      @mred9161 Před 8 lety

      If you want a boring car yes. If you want an exciting car no. If you just want plush and marginally fast buy a 320d.

    I test drove a used standard DSG that my local garage had on the forecourt. It was amazing. If I had had a bit more money to spend I would have taken it without a doubt.
    Having lived with a manual for 10 years I didn't think I'd ever buy an automatic but now I know that is no longer an absolute. A Golf R DSG is a car I will one day like to own.

      Incorrect. I've had both the MK7 GTI with the Golf R IS38 turbo upgrade making 362 whp and 384 wtq and NEVER had any slip or overheat. I now have the Golf R with DSG and full Unitronic bolt ons and stage 2 ECU and DSG tune from Unitronic. I've launched the car countless times and never have an issue. I average 3.50 0-60 and have done 3.33 0-60. Speak not what you do not know of.

    • @SaltyDogPerformance
      @SaltyDogPerformance Před 7 lety +4

      and my R now makes 338whp 341tq in AWD mode. I never do "dyno mode" aka FWD mode when dyno testing. I also make 350whp and 365wtq on race gas. Only 12whp more PEAK but it makes 35hp more all the way through the powerband until around 5500rpm. Peak torque is made at 3000rpm on both race and pump.

      Don't forget that the Focus RS has been inflating their horsepower numbers. They're actually making around the same power when dyno'd. That's why when Parker said "40hp feels more than it is", it actually IS more than a 40hp difference...

    • @xampx2k7
      @xampx2k7 Před 8 lety +2

      McBaron You do know there's a difference between what the manufacturers crank HP claim is and what it actually puts down right? So where as the RS has put down as low as 270WHP on a Dynojet, the Golf R usually beats that number on a Dynojet despite different power claims by the manufacturers.

    As an owner of a Stage II MK7 Golf R (DSG), solid review. on slicks, a UM Stage II guys put down an 11.4 quarter mile. On street tires, I've hit 11.95. It's an impressive car for a 2L engine. The exhaust yields no gains. Technically, Stage II is an Intake ($350), Downpipe ($650) and tune ECU + TCU for $1299. So for under $2,500, you're at stage II for these power levels. My last dyno in 80F at around sea level, I put down 360 horsepower and 370 torque to the wheels. I'm pushing 28-28.5 pounds of boost. Stock is 18.5.
    Mine has Michelin PSS, VWR springs, Flow Form HRE wheels and a few other bolt-ons. It's a great car. Once my warranty is up, I'll certainly get a better turbo and high 10s are easily achievable.

    • @SofaKingTouge
      @SofaKingTouge Před 8 lety +2

      Real world honest truth, Golf R would more then likely be faster.
      First it's easier to drive. Much like the GTR the Golf R makes a shit drive look good. The Focus RS makes a shit driver look like shit.
      I know every guy on the internet thinks they are Lewis Hamilton. In the real word most are shit.
      Next every single test of the Focus RS has been done with Cup Sport tires. I am almost certain everyone who is buying the Focus RS isn't dropping an extra grand for the Cup tires. If they do and it's their daily driver they are going to be pretty pissed when it needs new tires in 6 months.
      Golf R with DCC and DSG is the way to go for performance and comfort. Focus RS is for being a hooligan, BUT for a hooligan car get the mustang.

      I own the Focus RS. It's fast, exciting and on a different level than the R in terms of dynamics.
      Car and Driver said its in a different league than the Golf R and STI maybe playing a different sport.
      The Twinster AWD is worlds better than Halidex. This reason alone makes the RS much more fun at driving including drifting around corners and helping the front end pivot around the track. I have the PSS and they work great on the track. The car is neutral with great turn in and control mid-corner. The torque vectoring does a phenomenal job pivoting the car past the Apex. IF you want fit and finish with a comfy ride go Golf R. IF you want class leading handling, braking, power, and FUN go RS.www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2016-ford-focus-rs-vs-subaru-wrx-sti-vw-golf-r-comparison-test

      I wouldn't get too excited over a Stage 2 for the RS......I heard the trick rear diff gets overheated pretty easily with even a relatively small amount of extra power thrown at it. So until that issue gets resolved don't expect much more than like 25 additional hp.....unless you send your RS to the hack a.k.a. Hennessy in which case he will extract another 100hp and not give a shit if your rear diff self destructs after 5 miles

    No, it's not better than the Focus, especially when it's much more expensive. I'm also not sure how aftermarket nonsense is a way to compare cars, and that's what APR is. You compare the factory cars. Comparing one car that's had a lot of aftermarket stuff to a base production car is idiotic. @rcontrerastaule Před 8 lety

      The AWD is more advance true, and the engine is bigger so better power. Where did you read about the interior and the transmission to read that review or comparison? The problem is that if you want a automatic or doble clutch in the RS you can't only manual? I think the manual is better in the RS than the manual of the R/GTI. The most i have seen is the stage 3+ from APR 450hp or 470hp with a bigger turbo than the stock one. Don't know if it's BT yet. What turbo does the RS with 900hp have? From what i have read the R have better interior, more daily driver friendly, DSG if you want, cheaper i think, maybe depends on the country.
