I (Yvonne) have bad news.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM, Queen👑Uniek became ill, she was visibly in pain. The vet came urgently and gave her painkillers. Unfortunately, this did not get better after an hour. Mathilde and I took Queen Uniek to the horse clinic in Wolvega where she was examined further.
It didn't seem like she had much trouble there. She pretended nothing was wrong. That is typical for a Friesian horse. But an ultrasound was made of her belly. It showed that her stomach was much too big.
She was admitted and would have to stay there at least one night.
But in the evening her condition became worse and worse. The vet called me and indicated that she was really in a lot of pain. The stomach wall was probably torn. A stomach rupture / Gastric rupture. Something that unfortunately occurs more often in Friesian Horses and that is because there is higher inbreeding.
I was advised to put her to sleep to prevent her from suffering further. I couldn't agree more. I don't want a horse to be in so much pain. So they put her to sleep around 10 p.m.
This morning I went to Queen Uniek together with Gea and Rinske to say goodbye to her. I had her picked up by a company that cremates horses. In the Netherlands it is forbidden to bury a horse.
Queen Uniek will be cremated tomorrow. I can pick up her ashes later.
As I type this, we are less than 24 hours later, but I would like to share it with you first.
I will make a video later. I still need some time for this.
Furthermore, other videos are still planned. And I also want to show the Queen as much as possible. Like I always do...
But I, Bauke, Rein & Teije will miss her so much!!! And certainly also Boss Rein, the Stal H and Stal G people and the CZcams herd!!
Because Queen Uniek meant a lot to everyone!! She was special and she still is!

It pained me to see Risey nickering/soft whinny to Uniek at the beginning and furthermore, she was looking intently at him. These two brought me to this channel, I stayed because of how well the horses were treated by Yvonne, Rein and Crew. Uniek was such a good mother, good leader, good friend, good sister and good horse in general. Her stoicism mirrors Yvonne, they are without a doubt soulmates to me. R.I.P Queen.

I started watching when Risey was adopted by Queen 👑Uniek. I fell in love with her because of her willingness to take a baby to her udder and her heart as if it were her own. I am in tears now because she is gone. But never forgotten. She is in heaven. Corralle is Belle's surrogate mother, in my heart never the true mother. But I thank her for having Uniek's baby. I want to hug you, Yvonne. I want to cry with you. I wish I could send money, but, I am an old woman, alone. I send you love and prayers that things will turn around and be good in the future. Yvonne, I’m a former USAF officer. I don’t cry easily. But, I cannot stop crying seeing this video. I fell in love with horses by watching Queen Uniek accept Risey as her baby. She was a special horse, and not only your friend, but family. I will continue to pray for you until the pain eases up. We all loved Unirk. Belle is Uniek born again. Uniek would not want you to cry any longer, but rejoice in bringing up her daughter.
The first time I saw the beautiful Uniek was when she gave birth to Star who unfortunately did not survive. Then a tiny Rising Star came into her life and we all fell in love with the beautiful bond formed by the mom who had lost her foal and the baby who didn't have a mom. Queen Uniek you are very special and now you run free in horse heaven. I love you, beauty

Uniek was a wonderful horse. Don’t look on it as bad luck , think about how lucky you were to have her in your life, how lucky she played a part in fur filling your dreams of a horse stable. Lucky that she played a part in helping you recover from your accident. Lucky that she brought Risey into your life. Lucky that she found you and you gave her a wonderful life and made friends all over the world. RIP Uniek we all loved you. Gone too soon but never forgotten 😢
I think what you are saying is true. But it is hard to look at it that way when you are still grieving another loss. But Yvonne is strong and one day she will be able to smile when she thinks of Uniek instead of tearing up. Those are the stages we go through when we lose someone dear to us. I smile more now when I think of my parents, for instance, but sometimes I still cry. That is the way it is. Belle is such a blessing, as is Risey even with his issues. Circle of life.

It’s important that Yvonne expresses her true thoughts and feelings in response to her grief. And it’s important for us to listen to her as she moves from grief to remembrance and healing. No one should tell her how to feel, or how to look at things in the direct aftermath. She needed to speak her truth.
Yvonne is such a resilient person. She’s shown that for years, especially after her accident.

Please never be ashamed to cry. You cry because you loved her, cared for her, and you will miss her. The decision you made to have her put down is the most selfless decision one can make, and it's such an incredibly hard one to make . A few minutes ago, I cried seeing the video of Uniek accepting Rising Star as her own. Now, I just learned Uniek has died, and am in tears again. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

It's beautiful that Uniek mothered Rising Star when he was orphaned and she lost her own foal. Now, Coralle is mothering Uniek's foal. Her legacy will live on.

The first video I watched was of Queen 👑Uniek giving birth to Star, which was so sad to watch, but watching her fall in love with Rising Star JK was so very special and beautiful. Oh, Yvonne, imagine how horrible it would have been if Uniek had given birth to Belle and then this happened!!! It’s almost as if the universe knew this was coming and lead you to have Belle conceived when you did. Uniek was there for Risey and Corella is there for Belle. I finally have strength enough to say how deeply sorry I am for your loss of the beautiful, majestic, Queen Uniek. I like many fell in love with her and your channel when she took in and adopted baby Rising Star. Uniek was such a sweet and special horse. I’m happy that you now have Belle. While she’s not her mother and can’t ever replace her, I know many people who have had a heart Horse and wanted to get at least one offspring from them. I pray for little Belle’s protection and health. At least mommy Uniek got to see her. And now she’s watching over her and Risey. I couldn’t type anything before because I kept crying, well I’m crying now too but not as bad! 😅😭 I came for Uniek and Rising Star but stayed because I enjoy your personality and your dedication to these horses Yvonne. You lost Star, but gained Risey. You fell and yet you survived to live and love your close family as well as your world-wide family. You were wise to create Uniek’s Belle via Coralle to carry on Uniek’s uniqueness. The glimpse of Belle that we’ve seen shows she has her mem’s conformation. She looks special already!

I too started following when she adopted Risey. I lost my horse a month ago to Acute kidney failure. I know how heartbreaking this is and my heart goes out to you all.
When our dogs reach the end of their lives we say they have gone over the rainbow bridge. Gone but never forgotten. There are thousands of people like me who will never forget Uniek. I joined your site when Uniek became Risey’s mother. You don’t have bad luck because you have been given the care of two glorious horses and we have known them because of you. And now you have her foal and we will watch her grow and share your joy in her.
Belle came just in time. The spirit of Uniek is running through her. God bless you Yvonne, sorrow is but a season. Uniek was there when Risey lost his birth mom, now Belle will be there to bring you joy after a loss too.❤

You don’t have bad luck, you are blessed. You have a loyal husband & healthy children. You have viewers who helped you buy Uniek for yourself & cover all her needs. When Uniek lost her foal, there was a miracle foal that she loved as her own. You had an accident & fell into a coma but you woke up! You recovered more than anyone expected. You run your own stables & people care deeply about your life. Though Rising Star has a concerning diagnosis, he is beautiful & strong now. Uniek’s foal transfer worked perfectly & you received a beautiful princess before the Queen left. There are so many blessings for you! I am so sorry for your loss. 💔 I hope you can take some comfort from the 2 beautiful babies she left in your care. One boy, the child of her heart & one girl, the child of her blood. I know Uniek was loved & cared for from the day you met to the day she left. I hope this is the last heartbreak for you for years to come 🫂

The image of Uniek's empty stall was haunting.
Risey stood turned looking away, Coralle never left Belle's side and Reintje and Saly appeared so subdued. In their own way they know it is different now.
Even when in pain, Uniek was such a majestic beauty! She made an impact on so many of us around the world. She will not be forgotten by this virtual herd, or by those who saw her accept Risey as her own.
Yvonne, yes please post all of the videos you have. We will continue to watch - enjoying the antics at the Stals, to cheer for Risey and to watch Belle grow. Uniek brought us here, after all.

Darling Uniek, I live on another continent and don’t understand how I have so much love for a horse I have never met and, sadly, will never meet. I first saw you when you were struggling to give birth to Star. You were desperately trying to lick life into him, but it was not to be. It was a dark time, but in the morning the sun came out with the arrival of a skinny little foal whose mother had died. I’ll never forget your joyous whinny and the happy dance you did when you first saw Rising Star. It was truly love at first sight for you and for me, too. That was the day I fell in love with you and Friesian horses.
I watched as you tenderly raised Rising Star and saw him grow up to be the magnificent horse he is today. Over the years you charmed me with your sassiness, your imperiousness, your love of food (especially pellets, apples and carrots), and your stunning beauty. The tender greeting you gave Greg Hammer when he visited, and your enduring love for Yvonne were impressive. You took me riding through the woods and along the beach. We splashed in pools, trotted alongside canals, and relaxed in the meadow. It was a magnificent reign which came to an unexpected and tragic end. Tears are still flowing, but time and Belle will ease the loss we all feel. Rest in peace beloved Queen. You have gone, but your memory will live in our hearts forever.👑❤️🇨🇦❤️

Oh no, I've been sick with my own stomach for a while and just saw this. I am so sorry. Uniek stole all of our hearts when she took in Rising Star and was the best mother he could have had other than his own. I am so sorry for your loss. You take such good care of your animals and it is so obvious that you love them very much.
I started watching the story of Uniek and Rising Star yesterday and here I am now, crying. And I‘m not even a horse person. But even I could see how amazing their story is.
I think Uniek will be watching over you, Risey, and Belle now. She left a hole in all our hearts, but time heals all wounds. Belle will never replace her mother. No horse ever could. But Belle will carry Uniek's legacy of beauty and grace forward now. RIP Queen Uniek.

So sorry for your loss. Glad you knew her so well that u could tell something wasn't right and took her to hospital. U still lost her but she suffered far less than she might have done if it wasn't for your vigilance. I have lost two of my own and also don't cry easily, the sight of you in front of her empty stable set me off thinking of the last one I lost and how it was to see his empty stable. I couldn't cry at the time tho I needed to. It was five years ago and I just cried now! I have his nephew, a stallion,and the nephews new friend a young gelding in my old boys stable and they are a real comfort. So is having his ashes like u got Unieks. I am glad u have her foal to comfort you and that she got to be a star in her own right by raising Rising Star So well. She will be queen again in horse heaven.

I agreed. With the Queen resting on the ground, not being herself. She knew, I will never forget her standing attentively and looking toward Risey Stal. Although Risey was older, She wanted to see and watch over the most important person in her life for the last time, her boy. Also I will never forget Risey somberly standing backwards in his stal.There's no doubt their bond was a special bond, Mother and Child.Risey Whinny voice at the beginning tells me he knew his Mom was very ill. He was sad and said good bye.

Dear Yvonne, there is no shame in mourning one of your best friends. We all I imagine will mourn the loss of Uniek for a while, then we can move on to remembering the joy she brought to all of us. I am so glad she was able to be there when her foal was born. I am sure if anyone can know that her foal will be loved as she would have it is Uniek. She took an orphan to herself and loved him as his own mother would have, and Risey is a sweet boy who benefitted from Unieks care when he was in need. To me Uniek will always be the "Queen" of the herd. You did right by Uniek and I am sure she is now happy and grazing in a beautiful sunny field. Much love to you and all at Stal H and Stal G.

I am so sorry Yvonne. I had to put my best horse down on my birthday a few years ago. I was out of the country and could not go to him. Heartbreaking. To lose Uniek and Risey in one year is tragic.
I don't know what part is sadder... when Uniek was in pain and Risey tried to comfort her or when Yvonne was crying and the horses in the barn were trying to comfort her... they know. I'm sure they grieve too.

Yvonne, I cried along with you. How many times I stood at where my Nikita slept. I kept her bed where it was till I was ready to move and put it up. In my hallway there is a memorial of her. I made a shadow box with some of her things in it. My girlfriend made a picture for me to keep beside her cremains and shadowbox. Grief has no timeline, Nikita has been gone since May 2005 and I still cry. Queen Uniek will be forever with you because of Belle and Risey. I was pleased to see you smile because I smiled when you said you had Uniek in the back of your vehicle. You will have smiles and tears as you remember her in your private moments. Funny about the rain, because the day my dad was to be buried it was raining terribly and as the time came to go to the cemetery the Heavens cleared and the sun came out and it was beautiful..ty for this memory of my daddy. Never forget you have a human herd thats here for you and there is nothing we will not hesitate to do for you..please ask, as there is never anything wrong with asking. I started watching this channel when Uniek lost her baby and adopted Rising Star. It was so beautiful to watch the two of them and see him thrive thanks to such a wonderful mom. It’s good to cry, what good is loving Uniek if we don’t smile at the joy and cry when she’s hurting and now gone. I cried for a few hours and was never even in her presence! She was special and your love for her is deep and we feel the loss with you. I have started calling her filly Princess Belle. Because her mother was indeed a regal Queen.
