Con Man Tries to Escape from Cops at Hospital

- @Copwatchtv obtained body camera footage from an incident involving a con man who had just been arrested. The 61-year-old man was arrested on warrants from scamming people out of contracting work for their houses.
When sheriff deputies arrested him they took him to the hospital because he complained of some symptoms. While there he wanted to use the bathroom and he used this as an attempt to escape from the law.
He used the ceiling to try to evade and escape to freedom. Nurses and medical stuff were quickly aware of his rouse.

There is an irony in a home improvement scammer creating damage that requires an estimate.
irony?
He just went to check what needed fixing.
Results: the whole damn roof and air vents were severely under constructed

Right like does my health insurance cover injuries from escaping criminals or no
The first episode of ER right there! 😂
Cop should know better not to let a prisoner go to the restroom and lock the door, rookie mistake.
and they have so many doors that are locked and have to get security to open it wasting time
I know that’s right, usually they handcuff them.😂
What's even more surprising is the ER bathroom can only be unlocked by a key from security. The ER's I have seen have a way to unlock it from the outside quickly in case there's a medical emergency.

He obviously didn't need the hospital if he could attempt an escape like that. This guy is used to getting arrested. Loser.
Of course he didn’t, he was just buying more time to try and escape. He’s clearly been through the process before. Do anything to delay facing consequences.
How are they supposed to stop him from locking the door, go in there with him? It was a bold move on his part though...

Amen, my exact thought, "loser". 61 years old and pulling this ish. Smh.
Experienced criminals know if they go to the hospital there’s a good chance the cops won’t wait & will just write them a summons. He probably started panicking when he realized they weren’t leaving.
The amount of attention this took away from the real sick people should be considered by a Judge. What a terribly selfish person.
I agree. The staff had to move all the patients out of that ward to the hallway so they could be protected from this clown.
the rooms were empty stop exaggerating
He's a con-man. That's what he does. Probably been doing it his whole life. I doubt the hospital would allow this incident to effect patients. Bit of a stretch.
@@ArtyCalistroright, the officers treated it more like catching a pesky critter rather than a criminal attempting an escape lol

Yes! This happens in Florida after hurricanes pretty consistently. I remember back in 2004, during the triple ‘cane whammy year - it seemed like 1/2 of the people who paid for a new roof here got conned by illegitimate scam contractors. I always tell people to check that any potential contractors you’re hiring are licensed, insured, and have legitimate online reviews… if the timeline sounds too good or the price is too good (especially after a disaster), then don’t be afraid to walk away. Get multiple quotes too.

Back in 1996, a guy named Kevin K. I knew had to report to his probation officer for his report/monthly drug screen. Obviously, he came back hot on the piss test.
So his po placed him into custody awaiting a probation revocation hearing. This was in the Elmore County Jail, in Alabama, where Kevin was placed into a room.
Some time while he was in that room, he escaped through a ceiling drop tile. He made it to U.S. Highway 231, but surrendered to sheriff’s deputies while trying to hitchhike.

I was an ICU nurse and just the idea of having someone crawling around in the ceiling gives me so much anxiety!
I get that this is an ER, but there are things like oxygen lines up there too! We were so protective of our patients, and seeing nurses scramble to get their patients out of harms way is insane!. All of the damage he could've done to patients, staff, and equipment is unforgivable. I'm so angry with this guy right now.
O2 is piped in through the walls, not the ceiling, huge fire hazard to have that stuff flowing above the sprinklers.
How the hell does a 60ish yr old man climb up into a drop ceiling? I'm in my 40s and I cant do it at least not without some help.
You might be able to do it if you really, really didn't want to go to jail. I bet he'd been practicing for that moment his whole life! lol

Actually, I think he, or someone, was supposed to be in that bathroom monitoring the guy. Not 100% sure what the rule is. But the guy said he had diarrhea as an excuse to keep the cop from joining him in the bathroom. The cop was pretty angry at this guy for making him climb up there. He's probably not proud of himself for letting his prisoner even get that far.

Yeah, but that’s part of the job though… It’s not like was in there for more than 10 mins either. The fiberglass insulation is hazardous to lungs but he’ll make it through. The hospital on the other hand will have to pay to have the wall insulation re-rolled against the walls.
At my hospital the bathroom doors don't lock for this very reason. A nurses aid or a tech stands outside of the door to make sure nobody walks in on the patient. We've had patients go into the bathrooms and do this ceiling thing and some patient even hung himself in there once.
@@ArtyCalistro As a matter of fact….I own several!
@@smittenkit Nice come-back! Bet he didn't see that one coming! lol
Normally there’s at least one special patient bathroom, it’s not locked most frequently in case someone has a medical condition while in the bathroom. Then there’s the public bathroom that locks.
I worked in a hospital, a patient decided to go into the bathroom, lock the door and have a smoke…manager had all bathroom locks removed asap
It’s also so if and when a patient passes out or in critical condition.
For example. Someone who is prone to a stoke or seizure.
He endangered other patients and staff big time. ALL ACROSS THE BOARD. 🤦

I was waiting for Dr Cox to walk in and say "Steven, help me to help you help me to help you help me to help you." Then The Janitor comes in and says "Don't worry, I got this." My dad - in his 80's and my life-long idol - got scammed by a guy who would approach older folks in parking lots driving vehicles with some body damage. The guy was driving a van with nice professional looking vehicle graphics and looked legit and he would offer to come to your house at your earliest convenience and repair body damage on your car for like 1/3 the cost of an autobody shop. He would ask for half the payment up front in case he needed to buy materials. My dad asked if the guy had time to fix my dad's van right now and the guy followed my dad home. Of course as soon as my dad paid him the half up front and went back in the house the guy bailed. My dad was so embarrassed that he got taken by this conman it was a big blow to his state of mind. The $300 the guy made off with was secondary to the blow to my dad's ego as an intellectual and highly-educated man with 32 years in criminal justice. I felt so bad for him and I've never wanted to hunt down a person so bad in my life. I cannot stand people that take advantage of the elderly. It makes me seethe.
