  • A subscriber get in touch with me to ask whether I could set up his Hauptwerk organ. I was really intrigued by his setup, and couldn't resist experiencing another quality Hauptwerk setup!
The owner of this organ also allowed me to experience an electric car for the first time as well - a Porsche Taycan Turbo S! Now that was something unlike I'd ever experienced before.... incredible!!

Of course we all loved being brough along for that trip in the car! Amazing! Fantastic video R - lucky new console owner and to have an expert set it up like that :) Awesome!!!

Excellent video Richard, thank you! Hauptwerk seems unnecessarily complicated in places. I will use this video when I finally get my organ console and speakers sorted out but don't hold your breath. I bought my second electric car 2 years ago, not as fast as the Taycan electric but still a hoot to drive and for me really cheap to run as I charge at home.

Only halfway through the video, but hope we deal with the room mode by acoustic treatment of the walls. Being such a small square, the mode will accentuate 100-120ish hertz. This is really noticeable--even with your just speaking in the room.
I'd suggest acoustic paneling of at least 5 inches--held a few inches from the wall to increase their effects.

    • @aelfrice
      @aelfrice Před rokem

Alas, it's up to the owner. If they're reading this, give a call to a company that manufacturers paneling and ask for a consult to deaden the sound. With an awesome sound engine like hauptwek, some tuning can be done to the output, but you will be happier with an acoustically dead space. You can also DIY panels.

Have you ever played through the low pressure ( like a pipe), wide footprint ( so instant dispersion for a small space) Magnepan Magneplanar speakers? They also have the advantage of low ear fatigue, super dynamic range, and because they are low pressure, when you go outside the house ( or another part of the house) you can barely hear it. I believe that Hauptwerk and Magnepan should join forces for some R&D.

This was an interesting video on so many levels. I have never done anything with Hauptwerk so it was great to see some of its inner workings, so to speak, along with everything goes goes into a "proper" home installation. The ride in the car was fun, too. I've a friend who refers to that kind of sudden, powerful acceleration which puts you back in the seat as being "neatly pressed," 🤣

    Brain explodes!
I have a Viscount Cantorum Trio and Hauptwerk 7. I have stereo outs going to a powered PA with subs and cabs, essentially stereo.
I plan to use a Paramount Theatre organ (I have the free version now) with three manuals, and various 3 manual pipe organs, using free versions for now.
My simple setup obviates the need for more complex set up.
My dream organ is an Allen TO-5G, seeing the complexity of setting up Hauptwerk with many speaker layers, it may be worth the cost premium! lol
    Cheers!

I do have to wonder if you’d be willing to do something like today’s video project, but over in the States. Do you know if the builders of your own personal console, and your speakers, can also build for the US electrical system? It’s a tad different from yours. 110 volt instead of 220 and one of us is 50 hz while the other is 60 hz. I always forget which is which. But I do seriously love the detail that went into your console, especially the use of the magnetic devices for touch. I just can’t imagine anyone over here building that quality. If I do this, I’d be building a sizable stone room for it, think Chapel sized, and would want it to be Dudelange only with the stops set up permanently. Obviously, I’d want you to stay and do the inaugural dedicatory recital for some select guests. I’d also see to it that you got booked onto the Fine Arts series for a recital at my church (4 manual, 94 rank Casavant). Not this calendar year, but does that fall into something you’d consider?

Bobby, my son and I are Pipe organ builders and manufacture hauptwerk systems as we progress and when we can afford it! We have no money and survive on a daily basis on a pension at present!
As I am also an electronics engineer, I can say that there is no problem obtaining or manufacturing any power supply to suit your system. All is readily available and you can even purchase high current step down our step up transformers easily from ebay. Switched mode power supplies come these days with automatic conversion by power sensing the voltage, or manual selection via a physical switch to select between 110/240v. The phase difference of 10hz between your states, should not make much difference except will need possible filtering in the power supply circuit board. PS: we dont make any profit from any of this and most of our pipe organ tuning and repairs etc is done as a service to God. I am not liked by other australian pipe organ builders in Victoria and have been tuning for over 46 years both in Australia and overseas.

Electric cars are truly incredible and just get more so every day! And cost almost nothing to power up and run. Even less if you have your own solar panel dedicated for it at home.
The electric Ford pickup in the States is faster at acceleration and power than it’s gas equivalent, and its all-wheel drive so you’ll never get stuck as long as one wheel has traction.

Great educational video. I had no idea there was that much fine tuning of the program! I was wondering about the speakers. Are they powered through an internal amplifier in the console, or is there an audio out, such as Toslink to a receiver?
And how many audio channels. It would be great if it would output in Dolby Atmos! You could easily add the effect speakers to those 9060’s!

I don’t have much time to listen to Beauty in Sound, but I’m considering a Hauptwerk Organ in my home theater into 32 Channels and audio processing, ceiling speakers and so forth. The house will be done in about 14 months.
Now that I know you are doing this work maybe a trip to Wyoming, USA after things are ready. View of the Grand Tetons next to Yellowstone National Park.
With the speaker arrangement planned antiphonal casement could be well accommodated.

Maybe you know how to configure the program to run after turning on the power, i.e. turned on the system, then hauptwerk started and samples were loaded. Not every organist knows how to use a computer. Is it possible to do it like in a normal digital instrument?
