The biggest cliché is that everyone goes nuts over it for about a month... then it's forgotten after moving on to the next big thing.
Where a song is popular for like 3 month and then forgotten about the day after those
UnkeptMoss328 How about the cliche where a different genre artist/band becomes a overrated pop artist/band?
Rock Maroon V -> Pop Maroon V
Country Taylor Swift -> Pop Taylor Swift
Gangnam Style
*cough* *cough*
Eeveechuvoli God, I know right!
UnkeptMoss328 and it's nothing but prostitutes with giant butts
I think the three most cliche lines in pop songs are
1. In the club
2. Poppin bottles
3. Turn the lights off
Can't forget "Oh baby" either
House Of Hoops ''Close your eyes''
Butts booty butts booty boobies ass
Cuz Pugz SHE GOT A BIG BOOTY SO I CALL HER "BIG BOOTY"ALL I WANT FOR MY BIRTHDAY IS A BIG BOOTY HOBirthday songACTUAL LYRICS THE FUCK

[Random rap about how I .fucked 3 chicks tonight]
You forgot to mention the "my boyfriend dumped me and is going out with another girl so I'm going to write a song about how I've moved on and how much of a jerk he is" cliche
You just described almost every Taylor Swft song lol.
Expansion Pack Deluxe:... oh bugger! You beat me to it! I was gonna phrase it differently, but it was gonna be the same basic message!!! Peace. 😂😂😂
Back Country Pastimes ha
Expansion Pack Deluxe loool yes
@@expansionpackdeluxe636 I was going to said that
How the fuck is a duet cliche that's absolutely ridiculous
Came down here to say the exact same thing. That shouldn't even be in the video
yed
Well, you know. You cant really blame WM. They are only making the list by people's votes on certain catagories. I agree, not everything on here is "cliche."
not all cliches are bad
I'm laughing so hard at this
I can't believe that songs about butts didn't make it onto the list. So so many butt songs.
Ikr
That would be any pitbull song
You mean Nikki minaj?
Thats more of a rap cliche
wwaxwork It's more of a recent trend.
Where is Taylor Swift, her entire existence and her song writing skills is a cliché itself.
So true it's like her song are for children.
you must not have listened to her albums then.
Lol this comment made my day 😂
Preach.
+Rnc Dmnck THANK YOU!!!
a harmony is not a fucking key change.

Key changes are used in all music pretty much...
nothing they showed was an actual key change.
Yes so many songs do this, and it's called a modulation
1963: "I Want to Hold Your Hand"
1968: "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"
Gotta love The Beatles.
Woah! I love them but I never noticed that!
Moni Monkeemen I love them, too. Just thought it was funny.
What'd they do in 1969?
Garet McKenna That was the year "Abbey Road" was released, so I believe they were crossing the street.
Erin McGee Okay.
Lol for lack of ability... Immediately flashes to Rebecca Black
+Thomas McKnight (SuckerPunch) yes
She could be good just she uses too much auto tune!!
I died 😂
+Bean Q She was like 12 when she filmed the song she didnt even WRITE it.
fun fun fun xd
Just replace "Baby" in songs with "Toddler" or "Infant", trust me it makes it a whole lot better.
And I was like infant infant infant oh like infant infant infant oh.... Yes this made my day.
TheUltimateKitty oh infant infant, how was I supposed to know..
a Tree im crying
LMAO THANK YOU
Omg lol xD
What I find most cliche in pop music is that almost every pop artist is a sell-out. I don't know what selling out means in the dictionary, but in my opinion, it means a couple things: alienating your fan base, changing your image and musical style, and worse of all, only being in it for the money.
And another thing: a lot of music today lacks something incredibly important: soul. I think that's the biggest tragedy in music today, period. We need to bring the soul in all types of music, and so far, it's missing.
David McAninch yes exactly!
David McAninch
mm
xxxx
David McAninch Well I disagree. I see nothing wrong with changing you're music style and image. Sometimes it's called trying something new or being versatile. Artists get boring if they keep doing the same thing. It doesn't make them a sellout
Oh. And gratuitous dance numbers.
Key changes? Seriously? If you have been in choir for any length of time, and you can read sheet music, you know that there have been key changes in music for centuries. It is not unique to pop music.
That's not the point. The point is that it's a pop music cliché to do it.
No, it's not. That's like saying it's a Rock music cliche. It is used in every genre of music from classical to hip hop.
Buttered Lumps No songs aren't supposed to change keys, that's not what a key is. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_%28music%29
rexthe cow It might not be a fundamental part of creating a song, but it has been happening in music for a long time. Also, Wikipedia? Hasn't anyone told you that that particular website is one of the worst ways to spread reliable information?
sarah borrink I think it particularly refers to "over-singing". The idea is that the more you jump around with key changes and volume the more talented a singer appears to be. I work at a grocery store atm so I hear a llllllot of key changes over the store radio over the course of a shift... utterly exhausting.
I hate that almost every song is always about having sex, getting drunk, doing drugs, or falling in and out of love. There are so many things to experience in this life and these are the only things that they can sing about? How about a song about finding yourself, or coping with the death of a loved one, or just going through life in general?
Why don't we have pop songs about going to the shop like every ordinary person and their ordinary life that doesn't involve partying and having (too much) sex.
Jeffrey Dirts I'm still waiting for that one....
Muhammad Nazrin Some popular artist should get on that. He/She would make millions.
How's this (take note that I have 0 experience in the music business so my song will be absolute garbage). Remember to sing the lyrics in a four chord progression!
"Going to the store!
It's near the shore!
Getting a shopping cart.
I like this place more than Kmart!

Ariana actually says 'baby' more than Justin does in 'Baby I' I believe
I tried counting the other day and I got 57 but there was probably some I missed...
I used to think Justin Bieber was cute, but now he looks a lot like the homeless guy across my house
I like how this list basically summed up the entire pop-genre.
That profile pic tho XD
Like any other gener doesnt sings about love and breakups and drugs
I think pop is like the most diverses genre of all geners
I know right? I mean might as well make a list on what we can sing.
@@heposlis2409 *Metal music
@@heposlis2409 bullshit rock is. go fuck yourself.
the phrase 'What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger' is probably the most cliché thing in pop music as of today. ive heard that shit in like a hundred songs already
Actually there is a song named like that by Kelly Clarkson and yeah it's a cliché
Somebody should write a song called What Doesn't Kill You, Makes You Stranger" lol 😉
+teenie36214 somebody did. Kelly Clarkson.
Clearly no pop singers ever heard of polio.
+AwesoMESS I said "stranger" not "stronger" ...have you seen The Dark Knight lol
The problem with these clichés is that 90% of people today LOVE these things. You give them more complexity and diverse topics, and they won't buy it, not in a massive way. You have independent pop and dance, great rock and metal tunes, great independent rap and r&b, talking of much more important things....but people want the same childish not so great voices, good looks, stupid lyrics, etc. So, as long as we have simple-minded people, we will have these clichés. In the 60's and 70's you had people like Joan Baez singing about freedom, and songs about spirituality and revolution, etc. Today, these songs are too intellectual for most people using youtube.
Finally, some one actually understands.
The reason why people enjoy these songs is because they're specifically tailored to please the human brain. We naturally love patterns, harmonious sounds, repetition. When things are predictable, we're comforted because there is no anxiety about what's coming next. That's just how it is. If you can resist it, then congrats, you're a bit more intelligent than others for being able to go against evolution (other indicators are: being a night owl, liberalism, and monogamy). Unfortunately, we're not all at that stage yet.
Personally, while I do enjoy pop, I'd like something evocative, something about what's going on in the world. Music is well liked, it's figuratively a need. Much better for spreading messages. Unfortunately, if the music industry can't make money off it...
Kali JaguarStar Lmao like if you sing about kissing a girl while being a girl (Katy Perry xD Like 2007 Era) The world only sees it as "OMG SHE'S WEIRD SHE DIDN'T KISS A BOY LIKE SHE"S SUPPOSED TO OR SHE DIDN'T DO WHAT WE WANTED HER TO SHE CAN ONLY WRITE SONGS ABOUT BEING IN LOVE WITH A BOY! SO CONTROVERSIAL HIDE MY KIDS!" But it was only a provocative song that was just kinda joking xD. Man, American Parents glad my mom is like "Eh whatever you'll listen to it eventually." We're American btw SO STFU ABOUT BEING RACIST. xD
Fucking exactly hit the nail on the head.
You know, some people don't want to think about the complexity of a song and just want to enjoy the melody LOL. If I wanted complexity all the time I'd read a book.
"Partying/being in the club" 100% in every genre. "Love will find a way" 100% in every genre. Finally, key changes, empowerment, and duets? In EVERY GENRE! You are reaching so hard.
Yeah but this is cliches about POP, and if they are overused like a cliche is then it's still a cliche... Just because key changes, empowerment and duets are part of "every genre" doesn't mean that they aren't cliche in pop music.
@@anonymoususer4531 still stupid when every other genre does those cliches ...I thought the list was talking about pop music exclusive cliches
changing key`s is called harmonizing..which exist since the beginning of music..has nothing to do with pop..or clichè..thanks
Actually "modulations", but your point is correct.
Harmony and key changes are two different things
harmonizing and modulating are super normal and not cliche at ALL
Harmonizing is actually singing or playing the third up from the root note & the third up from the third to create a triad. "Changing key" or modulating is shifting the entire melody to a different key signature. But yeah, this is kinda what music has been made of since the beginning of time.
Shouldn't the booty cliche be on hear?
doesn't that count as sex ?
tiffany andrell Eh...sort of.
*here
yup
Savannah Is Here yea
Pop music is literally a cliche itself
StewieSwan This isn't 9GAG but up you go!
2edgy4me
StewieSwan hands down the best comment on this video
Best comment
It's a music genre how the hell can it be a clechè?
they are literally naming every type of song though
Wesley Snipes fun fact: Music has been around since the beginning of time and exists in many different cultures. Unfortunatly all we get is the pop bullshit shoved in our faces.
You know right... half way through the video I was upset and confused
@@DoBap_ Maybe you could look for music you actually like?
@@biivamunner3122 pop music is an insult to everyone who has actually worked hard to become a musician. Other art forms continue to be improved upon, whereas music was far more composed hundreds of years ago than it is now. I get its fun to dance, and even I love some stupid music for fun, the problem is when people take this shit seriously, and pass it off as good, it damages the art of music as a whole.
@@DoBap_ There's still serious music that fits your description. It's just not what the public is into.
You don't have to be conjoined with society if you don't want to.
When Justin Beiber sang baby I thought it was a girl.
SAME!!!
im still convinced justin is a girl.
Omg same in 2011 I sayed for my mommy is that a girl she looks like a boy and mommy sayed he is a boy
I sayed omg is that a boy I thing he is a girl LOOOL 😂😂😂😂
I did too!
OMG me too! I seriously couldn't believe it when my sister told me it was JB!
I don't think you guys understand what a key change is.
Agreed.
Agreed so much
Indeed.
Exactly. Thank you
yes..agreed
This video sums up why I hate pop music.
Hidden Talent Same :/
Hidden Talent It's not that bad, kids seem like it.... yeah it's terrible
Hidden Talent That's probably because you're too stupid and lazy to find the good pop music.
Baron Warden "Good" pop music is subjective. Personally, I don't find any pop music post-2010 that great so I actually laughed at that comment
Gylium the Crusader Really? Foster The People, Passion Pit, Echosmith, Empire of the Sun, etc. I guess you just don't like good music.
In case you were wondering, the 4 chords are: I, V, VI, IV in any major key, so in C that's C, G, Am and F.
Since we're on the subject, calling out pop musicians for having a four chord progression is like calling out artists like van Gogh and Andy Warhol for using primary colors
The Beatles' early music wasn't always innocent… there were always sexual undertones. Such as in "I'm gonna love her til the cows come home" or "When I come home to you, I find the things that you do make me feel alright" from A Hard Day's Night album
What I find most cliche:
Singing about your butt
Having 1 hit and then dropping off the map
Absurd music videos
Referencing your love interest as "baby"
CLUB BEATS
Sappy acoustic love ballads
Using your name as your artist name
Giving your backstory in a rap song
Saying "yo" "unh" "yeah" or "ooo"
So. Much. Makeup
Telling your fans how much you care about them when you don't actually care
Trying to strike a relationship with a brand that is out of music (Snoop Dog and AYC)
That's all I could think of. This video was JUST what I needed. Thanks WatchMojo
Oh and male sopranos (John Legend)
"Using your name as your artiat name" lmfao you like Redfoo? Iggy Azalea? Dem names ugly af
Yeah, I kinda struggled coming up with things they didn't put on their list.
Jordan Meiland i liked as soon as i saw "Telling your fans how much you care about them when you don't actually care"
Ever heard of adlibs?
Number 1 was pretty obvious to be honest, and everyone should listen to that Axis Of Awesome 4 chords song as it really does show how almost every pop song is basically the same
Exactly. I was about to look it up anyways when I saw this in my sub feed.
Search for "Pachelbel Rant" as well, same kinda thing
ryant331 Keith Urban has a "hidden" track on one of his CDs that's titled "One-Chord Song". The entire song is done in one key - of G - and it's hilarious.
ryant331 lol I watched it when I couldn't figure out what a four chord song was, very funny.
ryant331 I was thinking "I'd be surprised if four chord progressions isn't on this list." Lo and Behold, it was!
One day all these songs will give us 2000s kids nostalgia.
Ginger Snapped the songs that will give me that nostalgia would be Linkin Park and 30 Seconds To Mars instead
WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! whoa whoa whoa... whoa... .. Did I just see Kenny G in a Katy Perry video?
LanceCampeau yep
Hell yeah
LanceCampeau Yeah, that blew me away too!!
I don't care about any of this cliches things. If artists make good musics, then I'm listening to it.
That's the way it should be done!
Sophia Rhoads I can agreed with you on that, I like originality and differences... :)
+DarkSeraphim then why do you listen to pop?
ku lu Like I said, I will listen to any music that is suits my taste and style despite the artist and musical genres. I don't have anything bad against pop music because it's my favorite genres of music, but it would be nice sometimes to hear something different and new. This is my opinion, surely you have your own.
+DarkSeraphim you should check out Max Martin. like for real.
They forgot one: that stupid techno inspired build up
I love the profile pic
AtomicCobraByte - You're getting mixed up with EDM, that's EDM as a whole. Not really Techno...
AtomicCobraByte So true.
Dalek22comments You mixed it up techno is a part of edm (Electronic Dance Music if you forgot it) And there are some genres which never uses built ups
***** Of course it can be. I love the most edm genres :) and there are some great producer out there
1:42 "British pop group - The Beatles..."
The Beatles were a Rock band, not a pop group.
Back then, pop wasn't a genre. It was just a term for popular.
At the time the term "rock" hadn't been invented. The Beatles were called a "beat band", which also explains the name.
They were literally a boy band. You only know about them because of hoards of screaming girls.
Well let's be honest here, is there anything that can't be considered cliché?
Actually, no, not in songs.
I couldnt say that Outkast maked cliches.
Indya Bratton making a unique song, with a unique concept with unique instrumental composition wouldnt be a cliche. How to find that? Dont listen to pop music, look beyond our ignorant society and into other cultures and look back in time to older music acts.
Do Bap This video basically said making a love song, making dance music, changing the key & collaborating with a artist is cliche
Do Bap, there are still cliches in different societies and time periods. And I don't see why you call your society ignorant because there are plenty of beautiful songs. And if there are unique songs, it's because there are so few with that style while pop is obviously popular and a lot of the gaps have been filled, other culture's songs aren't necessarily unique because they are better or anything. Although I still think classical, operas, and other traditional stuff like traditional chinese or scottish or whatever music sounds better. Jazz and stuff is also nice.
"Key changes" are called bridges and they're In every single song
Thank you!! Someone else finally noticed that.
seth fernandez You don't know what you're talking about.
seth fernandez Not all key changes are bridges.
seth fernandez No, no they're not. The bridge is the section between the verse and chorus. What you're thinking of is the middle 8, and not all of them use key changes. In fact, most of them don't.
seth fernandez The middle 8 is what you are thinking of. And it doesn't have to have a key change. In fact, many songs don't even have a middle 8. Lot's of songs don't even have verses or choruses. Before you talk about "every single song" make sure you know about music other than what is in the mainstream.
I can't not be the only one who literally laughed when they showed Friday in the auto tuned part. 😂😂😂
Your not.😂
Especially since it's an amateur song, not a professional song, a girl did for fun and to put on her resume to go the a music school. And when it had a couple hundred views Tosh.O made fun of her. And made her infamous. People seriously thought she was trying to get famous. I feel bad for her and us for watching the video.
+Madelyn DeGraffenreid Is that even autotune? I think she just has a terribly nasal voice.
+Trine Langohr If you listen to her new stuff you'll see that she doesn't have a bad voice.

dubstep is complete shit tho
Kelly Clarkson has become so boring. Most of her hit songs have the same rhythm. They start out steady, then climaxes, then steady, then climaxes
Screaming/shouting in songs (like in See You Again - Wiz Khalifa) is also cliche.
Songs I find cliche are songs that sing about *love*, *finding yourself*, *living in the moment*, *being a pop star king or queen*, *sex*, etc. I honestly get so bored that now I prefer listening to classical music
So many songs about sex :/
Preach it, brotha.

No. just shitty pop singers.

lmfao
I was drinking water then I read your comment in a southern accent. You know what happens next..
Jeffrey Dailey Rascal Flatts has a song titled "Backwards", which talks about what happens when you play a country song backwards: "You get your house back, you get your dog back..." Country pop at its finest and funniest.
As a metal fan, I am interested in a list of top 10 hard rock and metal clichés.
Yes, every music genre have their clichés, more or less. I love metal but you can't deny it have it's clichés too.
+Martin Wilhelmsson yeah but the clichés in metal are awesome lol
Indeed, clichés don't have to be someting bad. Some things are always awesome, never get tired of it
+Martin Wilhelmsson supersized drum kits, hitting higher and higher notes, singing really loud for no reason, the slow song to get radio play, fire and explosions, concept album, praising their prowess in bed, playing or singing while on their knees, long hair and making monster faces, leather pants.
+Martin Wilhelmsson
Probably gonna be something like:
1. Guitar solos.
2. Denim and Leather.
3. Swearing.
4. Lyrics criticising society or the government.
5. Lyrics about alcohol.
6. Song peaking with a bridge leading to the final 2 choruses after a guitar solo.
7. Ad libs/improvised vocals near the end of a song.
8. Guitar pedals/effects (as comparison to autotune I guess, since both can be overused or used as a special "touch").
9. Scream/falsetto outta nowhere.
10. Headbanging/"wild" behaviour on stage.
Anyway, rock and metal rules \m/
6:38 HAHAHA I thought he said "I would never be this gay without you" 😂😂😂
umm I don't think you know what a key change is lmao, its not just going higher
lmao idc i don’t think you know what a key change is either.
Umm... hate to break it to you Mr. Mojo but "All about that bass" does NOT contain a key change. Just because someone's singing higher or lower does NOT mean they changed key!!
WhateverIsTrue01 I don't think you heard the full explanation. He said that it was a change in pitch (such as singing higher or lower, possibly in the background of the song) or an actual key change.
..I apologize right now for the text wall qoq
Elaina MacKenzie well they shouldn't have titled it "key changes" then
WhateverIsTrue01 No, no, they're talking about key changes as the main point and the pitch change as a secondary topic in the same stage.
Elaina MacKenzie well they should have made that clear then because it made ZERO sense to me!!
WhateverIsTrue01 ..Yeah, they didn't, I'll give you that one.
The "I Want to Hold Your Hand" argument got old in 2011. Nice song, but let's not act like they don't have a song called Why Don't We Do It On The Road?
.-.
My friend just forced me to hear a song called "I just had sex". no kidding.
+Maliha Ariba That's a comedy sketch from SNL. I know it too lol.
+Marshmallows Of The Damned It started on SNL but Lonely Island put it on one of their albums, it is a full song now featuring Akon.
that's exactly what I thought about
Some of the most common music tropes, in general, are related to love, sex, and drugs. You can hardly go through any music artist's entire discography without at least finding a song or ten about love or sex (not that writing about these things itself are bad, but they can be written in a very typical and pretty boring way sometimes).
Lady Gaga is a vocal force, she doesn't need autotune and she is certainly creative enough not to apply to clichés.
Listening to "Friday" still hurts my ears af after all those years
Rebecca black can actually sing which is the really sad part (look it up if u don't believe me)
+Clara That's like saying you can spell "you," or properly punctuate.
+LordAteag look up her CZcams channel now, she posts occasional singing videos and they aren't bad. And omg I'm soooo sorry!!😫 you're right!! I need to learn how to spell "you" bc I obviously thought "u" is the proper way! Thank you so much for opening my eyes and helping me become a better person!😊
+Clara Well now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
As a fan of rock music, I absolutely love this list.
Me too! This list is perfect!
Lol as if pop doesn't include rock music
kefkapalazzo1 Granted the rock it does include is mostly shit
Arrancon 515 mostly. I'm willing to wager the best pop rock is better than the best underground
Thats not what i meant. Im saying the underground stuff IS better than the mainstream shit-pop rock
so what do you want songs to be about? grass?
yes
You see? You are so brain washed by the pop music industry that you don't even realize that there is thousand of others theme that have been used throughout the history of music to name a few: Life, Death, Religion, Politics, human condition , philosophy, history, mythology, society, nature... and of course many others yet to be discovered.
Pierre le masson yeah but youtube doesn't allow a lot of those things anymore lmao XD

Love , sex, money , drugs, women, and profanity ... Yup sounds like every song I hear on the radio
RyeGuy410 it depends how is made
I hear that a lot in rock music too lol
Anybody else notice none of the "key change" songs actually changed key?
They just had a opposing melody over the original, or went up an octave?
Exactly! That bothered me so much!
Exactly! There's a difference between inversion and modulation.
THANK YOU! There is a key change in "I Want It That Way," but they totally didn't play the part where the key changed. -_-
So every method to making a song is a cliche?
No, just in making a pop song.
You obviously haven't heard anything other than this stupid pop music.
TheJayson8899 your right I haven't. I mostly just listen to Progressive rock/metal and jazz. However, I get bet that the worst prog band has more talent than the best pop artist.
Alex Fishman If these methods are the only way you think songs can be written than please don't write songs.
Alex Fishman you think theres only 10 methods to making a song?
There was a saying once upon a time:
"Once you figure out those chords, you are now a popstar and there is literally no turning back from the rabbit hole."
The modern pop scene reminds me of a song called "the thing that should not be".
Alucard The Crimson fucker Love that one...METALLICA 4 LIFE
Alucard The Crimson fucker but unlike Pop music, 'The Thing That Should Not Be' is actually better.
Dan Kale yes. The title described what it is.
And this is why I'm listening to metal.
Yeah.
Republic Of Romania Oooohhh... Romanasi!
+Lastrevio I see there's still some hope for humanity then . . .
+Lastrevio Every musical genre has its clichés... even metal.
***** Can you give me some rock/metal cliches?
Melanie Martinez's fans are so freaking annoying. I swear everytime I enter to a video of a real famous singer there they are, complaining about how underrated she is. GET OVER IT, she'll never be as famous as this people, and she doesn't need it at all. She is an amazing artist who doesn't need the whole world loving her. She's doing completely fine.
as a fan of Melanie (not on an obsessed level but I do really like her) I agree, everyone needs to calm down about her being underrated by commenting everywhere on CZcams :/
as a fan of Melanie (not on an obsessed level but I do really like her) I agree, everyone needs to calm down about her being underrated by commenting everywhere on CZcams :/
I honestly hate the other fans who do it on every single video
Meh..........I'm a casual fan and I like her music but I won't do what the other fans do.... And chill out complaining about how her fans are annoying isn't going to stop them.........(sorry if this sounds offensive)
Matt Garza Melanie is Extremely overrated now. I love her music! I've loved it for 2 years. But her fans have been so extremely annoying and they act like she's so underrated. She's NOT. she does not fit with this crowd
I guess no artist can please WatchMojo
Hey it's not their fault pop music is shit.
Alucard The Crimson fucker well maybe their just FRICKIN assholes with no taste in music
faye lilli no. If you dislike pop, that doesn't mean you have no taste in music. That means the opposite in fact.
if you dont like pop ell it means you like a different type of music.
The Crimson fucker it's really all music that does this shit. thats why its a cliche
TØP uses auto-tune in a unique way in a few songs. Using it to lower a voice for artistic appeal which I love. It enhances the song and shows how modern artist don't have to follow the trends but bend them.
And that's why I hate the radio.
***** Thats why everyone hates the radio.
***** That's why there are other radio stations
***** and thts why I hav Radio Ga Ga.
Zeus Rei doesn't matter what station you listen to. Its all the same repetitive garbage.
FirPtl "You've yet to have your finest hour! Radioooo"
No one direction I'm fine
hey buddy you in london
+i really need to sneeze but i cant STOP
+Chloe Zaffuto They didn´t name them but everything they said suits 1D´s music
Daaaaaannnn
+Isma Aguirrezábal not really...
The most cliche rhyme has to be
"Throw your hands in the air
Like you just don't care"
Or rhyming 'crazy' with 'lazy'...that's way overdone too.
omg everything is cliché, if u just create a song u are already being cliché haha
only sing words that haven't been sung in any other song
gotta be 100% original
Where's Megan Trainor? She might as well be named Generic Trainor
She's too new to be a Topic IMHO.
Trainor Meghan sent out Greninja!
TheGrandRevo She was in the key change
TheGrandRevo The bass line in All About That Bass sucks.
TheGrandRevo she is in the middle of the video
Pop music is supposed to be fun and happy, it doesn't have to have a message, you have fun and dance to the music that's all, and millions of people LOVE pop music, that's why it's called POP music
+gdnam32 If it doesn't have to have a message, then why do they try to have "meaningful" lyrics that are the most cliche thing ever? Why have lyrics at all? That's what electronic music is for, like edm and house and trance...just fun beats to dance to. No pretense.
Doesn't mean you have to sing about sex
+Poppy Robin People can sing whatever they want. Just that if they want to sing, please sing something with actual lyrics.
Make it fun and make millions yeah no I want some thought
Nate Gibson Jr Is that sarcasm?
"lack of ability" Then Friday by Rebecca Black played XD
Lmao I started crying when the Beatles showed up. I need help
So, take away love themes, having fun, break up songs, inspirational and self-empowering themes...and you're left what exactly? Songs about death and depression? The sad state of the world? I'm kind of grasping to figure out what up-lifing themes are left. And the fact that most genres of music are full of these themes as well simply make them music themes...not cliches.
+redraven24 music isnt about being uplifting. its about organizing sounds into frequencies that you find pleasing
what a funny joke That may be true to a certain extent but not when lyrics are part of the music. Even the most poetic lyrics with obscure meanings have a theme that can be felt. If a song with an upbeat tempo has lyrics with a grief and loss theme, you still feel the meaning behind the words irregardless of how the music pleases you. Music is already capable of translating a multitude of emotions and creating images in our minds without lyrics. And contrary to what you say, music is definitely not all about making sounds that are pleasing to the ear. That's a huge element, sure. But music isn't just sounds strung together to be pleasing -- it's an art. And art is sometimes painful. There are many types of music that are hard to hear, not because they sound bad, but because what they convey to the soul. Now, add the power of words to what power music already had on it's own, and you have something that connects humans together through the soul. This is isn't saying that pop music and country and rock and all the sub-genres (but pop especially) aren't without their lazy lyrics, rehashed sounds and bland takes on core themes especially as of the last 10 years. But that's just it...love, love lost, feeling happy, joy, friendship, encouragement, confidence...these are CORE to the human experience. You can't express an idea that is rooted in emotion without tapping into core themes. So, no, it's not about being uplifting. But IS about sharing what it means to be human, themes dubbed 'cliche' included.
+redraven24 There are PLENTY. Like, really, really plenty of them
Yvan Cluet Examples?
You can write songs about everything, about despair, about hope, about living in a place where you feel rejected, about peer pressure, about what makes you happy (and you boyfriend or girlfriend is not the only thing that makes you happy in life), about madness, you can do protest songs, against war in Irak (or whereever), to defend your religious or political beliefs, historical stuff like how the american natives were murdered, or you can use abstract poetry as your lyrics to set up a mood... The list is endless
#1 Capitalising on sex appeal and claiming it as female empowerment
Four chord progression is used in some of the greatest non-pop hits. Oasis songs were full of them, as were the likes of Stone Roses, The Jam, Blur and even the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles
"sometimes autotune is used as an artistic effect *shows gaga* other times it is used to compensate for lack of ability *shows Rebecca black*" SHADEEE
I HATE THE CLICHE WHERE A ARTIST/BAND TURNS INTO A POP ARTIST/BAND! Anybody agree? It's like a childhood ruined music.
For example: Rock Maroon V becomes Pop Maroon V
***** And country Taylor Swift becomes pop Taylor Swift.
Another One, pop-rock Paramore becomes pop Paramore
***** Linkin park ;( although they got bock from pop a bit
marcos1669 "Ain't It Fun" is actually a good song though. I definitely like it better than when they were doing songs for the Twilight soundtrack.
***** Pop rock Fall Out Boy became mostly pop Fall Out Boy.
ATTENTION I'M A PRETENTIOUS DOUCHE WHO ONLY LISTENS TO ROCK AND METAL BECAUSE I THINK I'M SMARTER THAN ANYONE WHO LISTENS TO POP MUSIC, GIVE ME THE BEST MUSIC TASTE AWARD BECAUSE I'M FUCKING AWESOME AND THE MUSIC I LISTEN TO IS BETTER!
I lel'd
Yea cause that's totally every rock fan I know more rap and pop fans who think like that... but by reading the comments those people do exist
Brag about it
Jorge López Haha that's what I'm noticing in the comments but to be honest this applies to almost any genre fanatic. There's nothing more pathetic than people bragging about their music tastes or whining about "bad" music. If you think the music crap, then it's crap to you, as simple as that. It doesn't really make you a "better" or a more intelligent person if others don't share your musical tastes.
the number one cliche can probably explain why someone would think that
and several others like using these phrases:
1.- "you know what I mean"
2.- "what am I supposed o do?"
3.-"Is up to you"
4.-"I love you"
5.-"girl, can't help it" ...... and so on.
I think a big cliche is formatting:
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus
Number 1 Cliche is
Songs with no meaning
SPIT BALL 007 What do you mean by that? I could understand if you don't like them but most songs period have meaning to them. I think you meant songs that have deep meaning to them and in that case i agree with you.
I think #1 should be that or 9 goes up to 1
Jashaan Brown No. Pop songs in 2015 hardly have any substance or meaning. What can one say now that wasn't said in the 2000s. Pop music is terrible and they aren't meant to convey a meaning with words, but make you feel a certain way with the Hook/Melody and the beat itself.
Yeah. Remember when songs were based on real events? It seems more deep when they truly express themselves.
Remember when you could make music with just a guitar and 8000 dollars worth of DJ equipment?
NOW THAT IVE BECOME WHO I REALLY ARE HAHSAHAHAHAA IM SO GLAD THEY INCLUDED THIS LOVE YOU ARI BUT WHAT WERE YOU THINKING
She didn't write the song, but she even admitted herself that the lyrics dont make any sense at all lol!
4hotpink10 I always thought it said "Now that I've become who I really am." Made me laugh when I found out what it actually said
she says AM, if you listen carefully you can hear it...
osnapistsari actualy no she knows it says are
She said are..
The most cliched thing related to pop music is the circle jerk that it's "bad" when its critics seem to miss the point that it's just meant to be fun. It gets criticism for being mindless and redundant, but I see that as its quality. It is perfect for partying or letting loose due to its mindlessness and can be put into a setlist without having to be concerned as much about mood shifts/ tempo changes. There are plenty of other genres for those interested in stimulating other interests.
Pity that music has gone that low.
MarikaHackman Fan do you know whats fun? Good music with well composed instruments and great lyrics.
That's just lazy.
@@DoBap_ that's your fucking opinion, stop belittling someone else's because you disagree
@@TheBslep he wasn't even belitting anyone or anything all he said was that songs with "great lyrics" and well-composed instruments are fun... Don't try and turn his comment into something it isn't so you can get your point across...
I'm an arianator but i have to agree she uses the word BABY a bit too much in excess.
It has become my mission to murder out every arianator, look around you the coming week, be on your hood, i’ll be watching you
@@ikhaatjullieallemaalpersoo5715 Be on your hood? Haha! Dutch expression. "Watch your back" I'd say. (For the non Dutch: user name means "I hate you all, individually") 😁
Arianator? Wtf is wrong with people...
I hate y'all "I only listen to rock and metal music so I'm better than you" guys.
same
Oh, we're not better. Our taste in music is much better.
And we hate all the "have you heard this new song" - guys.
Nicholas Goripow Just because you think your music taste is better doesn't mean your music taste is better than other people
SlaughteredDecay so recommending new music that you have no idea what sounds like and are too stubborn to listen to is something to hate someone against. No wonder everyone hates you guys. Getcha old ass outta here boi
You make a song without including all the themes that you named. You can't huh? Cliché works.
If you can't, then you aren't creative enough to write songs in the first place.
AceOfSpades Why don't you make a music video then Mr. Talented one?
I never claimed to able to, but how can you possibly be considered a good artist if you are a one trick pony. You know else you could write about: war, poverty, nature, society, prejudice, wealth, hatred, death, happiness, etc. The only thing that seems to make money love.
xCH0SEN1x Ofc I cant make a pop song, of the sort today, since these cliches define the 'genre'
AceOfSpades Lame. Go listen to death metal and country music if you're into those things.
Ariana Grande didn't say "who i really are" she said "who i really am" but pronounced am like om. It's a stylistic choice called "tall vowels". Fact check your entries before you post them.
when people ask me why I hate pop so much, im showing them this video
Sue-She draws you're just gonna act like non mainstream shit does do this shit too
i hate the both in to rock a
another cliche is using Nana is songs
oh nana whats my name - Rihanna - What's my name
baby i want you nana - Beyonce - drunk i love
ooh nana look what you done started - Trey songz - nana
make a change nana nana na nana - Michael jackson - man in the mirror
over used a lot lol
+John Doe DRUGS GIVE ME DRUGS
1d did it, mcr did it, falling in reverse did it
TheMetalRover I don't need it, but I'll sell what you got
+thewatcherrwowgasm take the cash and I'll keep it
+Hard Life To Love started with mike but everyone imitates him like hell. calling him pop is an understatement to the mans talent (along with prince)
>Saying "la la la"
Or, if you're a ska fan, "na na na".
+Asdayasman System of a Down - B.Y.O.B's chorus ends with "la la la la la la la la la laa, oooooohhh!"
Although it's a bit different and matches the guitar riff. SOAD are also amazingly weird, too. :)
Idk why I needed to post this but here.
+Asdayasman THey didn't make any reference to the MCR song " Na na na na"
+Nerd Wolf They
+Nerd Wolf Have you ever heard ska?
+Asdayasman Or Rihanna fans
Thank you so much for that number 10!!!
"Key changes are cliché! Here's a bunch of stuff that aren't key changes, and we're not even going to mention Westlife."
*slow clap*
What I learned from this video was that Ariana Grande is Cliche AF lol.
Update: For all the ignorant people i aint saying she is cliche in the video it has her on their list multiple times. so don't get all booty hurt on me. Sips tea-
OhYeahItsJake But hey, you really didn't need the video to affirm that, honestly speaking.
OhYeahItsJake maybe the lyrics in two of her songs are "clichè"... But not the entirety of her work.
Skyler her first album was way better,
Well at least she can actually sing
luisgarza1000 Too bad she's a corporate property producing plastic pop music garbage
I remember last year Arianna Grande was just some actress on victorious and Sam and cat then outta nowhere she became a big pop star the fuck?
She's not that big....barely known worldwide nbut she's had loads of hit songs
Michael Palmer i know right? why?
Because most people who listen to radio and pop music are teen girls. Pop music is marketed towards them so ariana grande already made herself known to kids as their favourite TV character so when they found out she was singing they all bought her music and listened to it also because she's good looking and a good singer too. She originally wanted to be a singer anyway she just used Nickelodeon as a stepping stone to getting there. Glad I'm not like other kids my age and I listen to old school 90s hip hop and the work of akala as well
fake channel most her fans are people who were fans of her when she was on Nickelodeon but the general public only see her as a wannabe Marian Carey but she only has generic pop songs for radio
Real Tallkk Wrong, she makes R & B songs also very often, like one of her hits, One Last Time... It's R & B and Pop mixed together but you could categorize it as R & B
I just got an ad for a korean movie about a mermaid lol?
WatchMojo: *says the cliche*
Also WatchMojo: *doesn’t show the cliche*
