I was never a big jay leno fan, but after watching some of thses garage videos he seems to be pretty good guy.
NeverOwned Lol
I didn't know much about him either. Then I saw all the charity work he's done. Amazing!!
Why didn't you like him? Most Americans loved him when he was doing his talk show over the past decades.
I can understand people saying they didn't like David Letterman, he was known to be a A Hole in private.
Lisa Hong reminds me of a girl I knew in Texas in high school. Her family owned a string of nail salons and were literally the wealthiest people in town, but they were down to Earth and very nice.
He is.
What a beautiful car...
it is a nice car
I sure do! Funny thing, i recently googled the car just to remind myself how pretty it is.
BMW has truly lost their way, no longer anything resembling a 'sports car'. Can barely find one with 3 pedals nationwide. Stuffed with unnecessary nonsense and bling.
I love that he interviews the owners. You can learn about the make and model from any magazine or website, but if you want to learn about the history of specific car, you really have to talk to the owner. Another fantastic video!
Truly beautiful example and what a perfect owner for the car. She absolutely loves it and respects its history.
This is one of those cars that just makes me smile. Expensive supercars and fast muscle cars are cool and all, but there's just something about this car and cars like it. Not sure how to put it into words...
me too, when you see them you just smile and smile and if somebody asks you why do you smile you cannot answer you just smile.I think such cars just make us feel happy.Yes, it is hard to explain.
well not so expensive as a ferrari at the time but no ordinary person had money to buy one of these, really confortable you drive it like a sport car ,in the 90´s i used a 1502 from 75 really safe car, does turn very well in tight corners is one of the best compared with new cars you almost seat at groud level ,like i ´ve written it drives like a sport car, i also had the 2002 from 69 they are similar but the younger model is more pointy not so round ,they used to call it shark front ,i do like to see videos from old cars but what happened to the 645i from the mid 70´s really good loking and big with luxuryous materials, like the 520 from 73 that todays is known as 5 series, the 1502 is a 2002 with a 1500 engine like the 2002 is a 1502 with a 2000 engine, like the 1602 it´s 2002 with a 1600 engine get it mr. jay leno
Relatively affordable, performs well and has a tasteful yet less flamboyant styling. Does not pretend to be anything other than a machine, and is good at being one. That is the sensible coolness they have
Oh sure it puts a smile on your face but then you drive it... that will really make you smile!!!!
Not just a car girl... A "vintage" car girl... Very nice
Yeah, no. Yeah. She like, likes cars, ya know? Like, she likes cars, and likes liking them, like a lot. You know? Yeah? No. Like, yeah though.
@@timharper3390 She didn’t talk like that. STFU
What a beauty. I owned a 1966 230s Mercedes for over 18 years (first car I owned 1989). The look of the BMW 1600 reminds me so much of that 230s car especially the interior and being surrounded by glass with no blind spots. The similarities all make sense because of the year. I couldn't imagine no power steering. What a beautiful car Lisa has preserved.
What is amazing here is the fact that under the lid my 1976 316 e21 is pretty the same: M10 engine, alternator, carburettor, radiator and few more other things. Simple stuff that won't let you down. Back then they really enginered things with that actual purpose: reliability, effectiveness and simplicity.
For some mad and obscure reasons it looks unthinkable nowaday.
Wow, Lisa was amazing! The car looked immaculate and she knew every little tidbit about it!
as soon as they say they race them, you know they're not just an owner
Well done Jay! What a beautiful car and lovely lady. My first was a 1972 BMW 2002 in golf green and was the best car I've ever owned. Many memories as a 16 year old cruising those warm Texas summer nights.
hornshwangler
I had a bright orange 69 that I found at the local Chevrolet dealer in 1972. I loved that car! The dealer had taken it in on new Vega (??) The Dealer had no idea what to do with it.Thanks for bringing back good memories!
Rewatching this video while folding laundry. Great episode. It is also a sad reminder of how far BMW has fallen.
Jay Leno makes me happy
Eduardo Lanza I know what you mean- watching these videos brings you to a nicer world where people appreciate each other and look after their cars! Best thing to do for twenty minutes after a hard day's work.
thumbs up
but that girl makes me happier!
dll errorr I also think she may know her BMW history more than Jay.
Car girl 👍she knows her stuff and likes to race, sweet!
Amen brother... Amen...!
For sure. She's fantastic.
420apache657 "I love that I have my 2002, but this is like my little precious, like, you know... car" lol. Im getting a kick out of the guys saying she sure does know a lot about cars
What's more remarkable is she's 78 years old.
Mike Wallace She was nervous, she does knows her stuff when it comes cars. She did made a few mistakes about the names and the car's horsepower. This is a live laid back show, not everything goes as planned
Watching and listening to her was a real treat.
Mike Richardson that's creepy.
Andrew Samy admitting a lady is attractive is creepy? Smh
yes.... by todays standards it is...
its creepy if she doesn't find you attractive.. its romantic if she finds you attractive... there is no middle ground.
That's absurd. There is nothing at all wrong with saying you find a lady attractive. Now if she's unavailable or just not interested in you and you keep pursuing her THAT'S creepy.
DeWitt- Most correct. THAT'S when the creepfest starts
My Dad had used BMW 1600 in 1970. He liked it so much, he traded it in for a new 1971 BMW E3 Bavaria 4-door. They were both solid cars, with stick shifts, and very peppy
She's cool. I dig her car.
I just find these types of cars fascinating and cool, in general
such a stunning wee car! and i really admire lisa's dedication to the marque. would love to see her other cars.
i bet you would you filthy jacobite
Daijyobanai lmfao
It is a generic late 1960s econobox... and looks like it.
My face hurts after every episode. I enjoy the show so much, I have a smile on my face the whole time. Thanks Jay
Growing up I was always a fan of the 2002. I remember going to the Toronto Auto show with my Dad in 1973 and bringing home a BMW 2002 brochure. I loved European cars of that era.
Cloth inserts were standard in that era European cars because few people opted for air conditioning.
my dad had a saying for buying used cars: "Low mileage , no air"
It's funny because even with a/c back then it was basically useless with how many windows they had haha. In my e21 with factory air, it was better than nothing though. Good ac didn't exist until the 80's. My God were summers dreadful in it compared to the e30 I replaced it with.
Yep. Vinyl and leather are luxurious, but not for sweating. There were reasons behind the engineering.
I know everyone is commenting on how cool this girl is, but I'm in love with the car!!!!! Don't see classics like these on the roads much anymore, great seeing people still driving em. We do our best to daily our 72 mustang and 89 camaro, but dailying a classic can be a pain..
Decades Cars I'm in love with both myself. The rest of her cars to.
Decades Cars daily driving an 89 Clamaro in 1992 was a pain-they were absolute junk
TRAV yea I would too, very under appreciated mustangs in the grand scheme of things! Trying to bring more love to them with our videos
Mike Converse we have had our problems, but with a 5 speed and a modified engine she's a cheap route to a lot of fun!
Yes. 🥰
I bought a 68 1600 in 1978 with a blown motor for $400-. Rebuilt with new rings and bearings, drove for 500 miles and seized up again. Realized later that the old oil pump was out of spec. Which is why the engine failed in the first place probably. Love the cars though, had several 02s and 2 tii's 90 325 convertible which got rear-ended, and now back to an 83 320i (1.8 lit). It romps to 5-6k rpm, and is great handling!
My 1600 is just in the shop getting some TLC. I can’t wait until she’s back on the road 😄
Very knowledgeable, within 1-2 years, for every aspect discussed. She really knows her cars...
Meghani Motorsports this was about d time bmw put GLASS AUTO CO.out of business n took all there great ideas that colour is a GLASS colour also fual injection
Such a nice and simple car ❤️
Econobox.
The quintessence of car-ness. Love the colour too. Kind of expecting it to be shadowed by a dark sedan in a spy movie.
Whilst crossing from East to West Germany!
Absolutely beautiful! I have a '74 2002 80% complete. Wish I could get it done and cruise. Some day!
This is the reason why I love Jay Leno's videos. Simple enjoyment of cars they love, and the fun of driving them!
"I like listening just to the engine" my kind of gal. Great episode Jay!
OH MY GOD! Lisa Hong! I remember back in the early 2000s she was a member of some BMW forums I was a member of when I had my first 1989 E30, and I had a bunch of emails with her since I had a big crush on her. She was and is a beautiful smart and knowledgeable woman. She is more beautiful than before. And such sexy heels.
RL R Pics I seen from early 2000s she's a kid. She's probably early to mid 30s so I really hope you are to.
We are the same age, you stupid dumbfuck.
RL R Hmm defensive much? I just said I hope you are the same age because if you are 50 it would be very creepy.
And if I was, what is it to you, you nosing dumbshit?
I owned a 1968 1600 in Michigan from about 1974 to 1977. Magnificent car - roomy, great visibility. Rusty though, in the fender wells, the read wheel wells and the shock towers.
Another great episode...
This era of Beemers, (1600-2000) were the epitome of minimalism in car design.
And Lisa is a rare gem in classic cardom.
Thanks for sharing both Lisa and her car Jay.
Great video and an amazing car! Great to know it's in reliable hands☺️👍🏽
A super nice classic BMW owned by a passionate enthusiast!
My dad bought a 1600 new in 1969. Midnight blue with black leatherette interior for $3,200 including California sales tax. The 2002 was about $400 more. The two liter engine produced about 110 hp, came with front sway bars and a tach. BMW advertised at the time they could build the Car for $1,000 less without the safety features engineered into the car. A VW Beetle sold for less than $2,000 in the day. I got the car in 1972 and sold it in 1975 for $2,000. The buyer was very happy.
Ah, I had a 1969 1600 in silver I bought new for $3000 including the optional dealer installed tach (a $90 extra). I took it to Montana in 1973 when I had a summer job in Glacier National Park. No daytime speed limit then! That little coupe would cruise at 90 mph all day long rock solid stable. I put an aftermarket Radio Shack stereo so I could listen to the Allman Bros. That was livin'!
Need more soild car gals like this one... really balls-deep into her cars, respect
Jacob Walls she had no ball though
moron
Ovaries are balls too.
ovaries deep jus doesn't have the same ring to it tho, does it??!?
... as it were.
Great episode!
I always look forward to Monday mornings. This video shows why Jay was such a successful interviewer. He can talk compression ratios with gear-heads, and he can share the enthusiasm with a positive owner like this.
Great car, I love the simplicity of it. Lisa's enthusiasm for this car and 2002's is contagious, I want one. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Finally a BMW!
I dig chicks who know their stuff when it comes to cars and bikes. And when they're hot to boot, well, that's just icing on the cake. :-)
leave her alone, you're not here to comment on her looks.
You guys are mean. She's very pretty to me and seems like a smart, pleasant woman with engaging interests. There's more to beauty and overall attractiveness than blonde hair, a big chest, and being college age. Beware what you look for in a woman, boys; you just might get it.
Tim Kreitz Adventures I'm sure she's college educated....my guess is a business or finance major....if she can afford a few vintage car's....she's no slouch....anyone making fun of her in any way is jealous....
Tim Kreitz Adventures I like her, good posture, pleasant manners, slim and seems interesting and bright. Unlike a lot of what younger guys would find attractive, those are real and lasting qualities in a woman.
THIRSTY
Thanks Jay! For being a pure car guy.
The first car I bought was a 1976 BMW 2002, Lime Green!, in 1984 (I was 22) for $2000 cash.
Off of some used car lot on San Fernando Road by Whiteman Airport.
I drove that 2002 like a wild man for 12 years, (now 34 years old). So much fun, I can't begin to tell you of all of our numerous adventures.
I even drove it into Tijuana Mexico one time. I had to buy temporary Mexican car insurance with a sticker for my window. I actually dared to park it on the street in Tijuana overnight. The 2002 was still there, fully intact when I woke up the next morning.
The engine finally gave out and blew a piston rod right through the side of the motor.
It sat in my father's back yard in L.A. for 6 years before I put a fresh $4000 engine in.
I still "own" that 2002, even though, as a 1976 California vehicle, I will have a very hard time passing the smog test to register it once again.
Not a problem.
I love car enthusiast, like your wonderful guest on this video. That realize, "Hey, we are actually using a man made machine to make our live's easier!!!"
Music marks time.
Cars mark time as well.
----Cheers!
---Eddy from Hollywood.
Hey Jay, when you have guests again please have some more like this lovely lady. What a breath of fresh air.
What a great episode. Such a rad chick with an equally badass car
I'm impressed that this thing is free of those rust-bubbles around the sills and wheel-arches. And that it hasn't been converted to an alternator instead..
Yeah, and if you run the battery dead you can't get a jump start on it, as it's a 6 volt in a 12 volt world.
i've got an old triumph and i run a generator instead. much easier, even though it isn't OEM
one thing with Asian girls, they keep that sexy body for life.....
I really want to see that modified 2002, sounds dope.
Wow. Must say, my all time most favorite car ever. Been lusting after one for decades. Timeless and quintessentially elegant
The Hornet, the Gremlin, Dodge Polara, Volvo 240, and all the classics. Thanks so much and brings back memories like it was yesterday.
Lisa Hong seems so awesome!!!! Would love to meet her!!!
Classy girl, classy car! 😚👍
silverstake88 she's so knowledgeable about the cars history it's impressive
She is very pretty also !
I just love the vintage BMW’s as they are so pure and handle with grace. The drivability and visibility are the best. From the 1600, to the 2002, and then the 3.0 CS, to the CSi and then the 3.0CSL which made BMW the Ultimate Driving Machine. It was also the first of the “M” cars for BMW although it didn’t carry the M badge. After many modern BMW’s I now am the proud owner of a near perfect 3.0CSL. Just took it out for the first drive this year after a long winters nap, and what a joy it has added to my life, just short of my wife of 52 years. I have owned other vintage cars including a Series 1.5 Etype Drop Head and in addition to the CSL, I currently own an XK150 Drop Head, a 911 Carrera, and the last 1979 VW convertible brought into the country which I was able to acquire 25 years ago with only 67 miles and had never been titled. Bought it from a collector and presented it to my wife for her 50th. birthday.
The BMW 3.0CSL is my very favorite car as it just does everything so well.
Another great video Jay.
My high school buddy had both a 1600 and a 2002, both great cars that he got in the '80s for next to nothing. If I recall, the turn signal was on the right side of the steering wheel, even though it was left hand drive! Great chassis dynamics and super fun to take on twisty roads.
Thank you Lisa for preserving these cars, your 1600 is immaculate.
petite, classy, wealthy, races on the track, knows her stuff, sign me up
The vagine is probably tight too
and curved.
Too petite for my taste but I’ll smash
What a cool girl and a beautiful car
Simply beautiful. I had a '74 2002. All I can say is, I wished I still had it!
Really enjoyed this. . . . 👍In the early ‘70s, my folks had little money, but my dad spotted a little 1968 bmw 1600 sitting abandoned next to an old service station. I believe he was able to buy it for around $500, but it needed new front mcpherson struts, and the rear seat vinyl back was disintegrating from sun exposure. I helped him change struts, and he stitched a new vinyl to cover the rotted part of the rear upholstery. I remember how snick-click wonderful the shifting was on the 4-speed. One of the rear license plate bulb lenses was broken, so when I happened to pass by a BMW dealer (which was an hour away), I picked up a new replacement. I think it cost around $35, so expensive that my dad made me take it back. When the parents moved a few years later (1978?), he sold it locally, but I do not know the price. I REALLY miss that old car, wish I had it now.
YES! Waiting for this for ages! ^_^
Great video, however, it was Alfa Romeo with their Giulia that was the first sports sedan. Twin cam, 5 speed, disk brakes, all before the 1600 came out.
jontg429 disc
Mike Wallace disco..
jontg429 yes technically alfa did but title always goes to the most popular or most influential...... Ex: chuck berry was first but Elves Presley is dubbed king of rock and roll....... V8 gremlins and fiat abarth were also first performance hatch back but MK1 GOLF gti is dubbed the original..........
Yes. The Giulia Turismo Internazionale was a blast. But for us germans the BMW New Class 2 door was the cheaper alternative because the Alfa was for about 3500 USD and the BMW for 2250 USD. By the way 96hp was the old SAE, in Germany it was sold with 85 hp measured at the rear axle. Enough for 13 sec up to 60 miles.
Uncle's got one of these with get this:
35k ORIGINAL MILES ON IT.
He took it apart in the early 70s in my grandma's house and it's been on jack stands ever since. A true barn find.
In PA?
In the very early seventies, 65 of the 90-ish club members we had then all had these 1600's and 2002's, we were offered the opportunity to be a chapter of the BMW Car Club of America... You have to drive one of these to truly understand how much fun they are...
BMW should do a modern day refresh of the 1600/2002, the brand needs a revival, not more drivel.
Ok. Who didn't fall in love with this girl? lol
RB Forex Trader I didn't. I found her voice and inflection when she spoke, really annoying.
RB Forex Trader she seems like an annoying sales girl or middle manager.. no thanks
picky picky. she's know's cars
RB Forex Trader....Hey, I liked her too.......Everyone on U-Tube is such a harsh critic!
I'M GAY AN I'M IN LOVE WITH HER.
Always loved the old BMWs. Thanks for showing it off!
Great episode. I'm from the UK and my first car in 1975 was a BMW 1600 in Granada Red made in 1969 so this brings back some great memories. Wonderful to see this car in such great shape after all these years which is a credit to the owner.
Lol, Jay and her have the same face.... Jay's love child?
yeah, an Asian female's version of jay leno chin. =D
Can we all just take a second and respekt this wamen for driving a manual with heels on!!?!?
In Europe this car was a huge success: compact, easy to drive, enough power, a good and pure design, etc. Really German in quality; perfect for young families
Timeless, clean design. And what a perfect color. Great little BMW!
What a classy, knowledgeable and pretty lady!!! I'm in love....
BMW used this block in their formula one cars...........700 hp 1.6 L
Craig Marston I believe it was a 1.5... and it made way more power than that! More like 1400 for qualifying.
Yep, the M12/13. The M10 is also the base of the S14 in the 320is and M3 too. Very cool little engines
Wow, thanks for the memories! This was our family's car when I was a kid. My dad loved it and it started his BMW loyalty. He put (barely) wider aluminum wheels and a sport steering wheel and when I drove the tires off on mountain roads, he complained that Dunlops wore out too quickly. He let me take it when I went to college when it was just a 12 year old car. I was able to fit my motorcycle in the trunk! (Some disassembly required)
lisa, you rock.
Awesome car.
Jay, you did a wonderful job presenting the bimmer.
Bmw 507 please
No radio and I'm sure no turn signals
Mike Arredondo it has signals
+Mike Arredondo
it's a bmw....go figure
Got em LMFAO
+Mike Arredondo
_"No radio and I'm sure no turn signals"_
Gee, I'm confused...did you just make a "woman driver" joke, or an "Asian driver" joke, or a "BMW driver" joke? Or three jokes at once...in which case I tip my hat, dear sir!
LOL ......With a vergin untouched turnsignal lever!!
I drove a 2002Tii many years ago. Loved it! Doubt that I could afford one now. Hats off to Lisa for keeping her 1600 stock and appreciating it!
This was a really fun episode!!!!!! Just a great car and friendly conversation between Jay and Lisa!!!!!
She looks like she could be Jays daughter from vietnam
LMAO
Is everyone being polite? - An accent like that every day would make me give up on life.
Really good chemistry between them, esp. when they were driving, was fun to watch this episode.
In 1966 I worked for a BMW dealer, and I remember driving one of these. I was so impressed with it that I bought one...
Who else checked her ring finger at the end to see if she was married?
Nice classic body, especially in jeans and heels,
One of Jay's best episodes! Omg what a beauty just amazing!
Big thanks for taking us all out for another ride along .
First from the great state of Alabama!
Vincent Vader: Roll Tide!
Nice to see another southerner!
Alabama is trash
If a trailer park was a state...
Duc Rider so you don't thing the location and geography of Alabama has nothing to do with its inhabitants???
First woman. cool.
Jared Mehrlich No it's not. Owner of that burger place in Cali was on with a 50s gasser. Kaiser maybe but forget.
Jared Mehrlich In and out burger and it's a 41 willys.
On JLG? Nah, there was the CEO of In n Out Burger, with the Willys street legal drag car that she races. Not sure if there were other female owners, apart from these two.
I remember the drag chick. You right.
And don't forget the lead designer on the NSX team. She was even smarter than she was beautiful! Hell, you know she has to be just to be taken seriously in the male dominated world of super sportcars
Thank god for jay to drive these cars and give us the experience
An absolute jewel car and a brilliant guest. It's always a great video when the guest really knows about cars.
Am I the only one that thinks this girls voice is cute
# MEGALOMANIAC thank you
Nope I do too
just wait till she nags you
'girl'
lmao. are you 13? She's a grown woman.
Yes! Sadly to an English ear she is sheer torture.
"it's like just, ya know" she sure does know her stuff
Exactly
Mike Wallace many Asian women speak that way....even educated one's
Christopher May
*ones
;)
Mike Wallace
Speaking that way doesn't mean that she doesn't know what she's talking about... She obviously does.
She just agrees and repeats what Jay says...
And just says... like..., absolutely, oh yeah.. oh yeah..🤣
Occasionally blurts out some obvious stuff...
Oh, yeah... like, like, they appreciated so much....
This lady is super cool. Enthusiastic and genned up about her cars.
I'm happy to say I owned one of these little Bimmers for 18 months. And Lisa is right about the handling, it's great.
I always wanted a 2002, seeing this 1600 makes me fall in love again!
What grown woman would still call herself "princess". LOL .. Dude, this car is restored..
No, it is "original and unrestored"... except for the original and unrestored part. ; )
That name was given to her by Michel Potheau, cofounder of the BMWCCA. And the car hasn't been restored.

Coke cleans off battery posts really well.....
Just realized Jay Leno and my dad are the same age, mind having problems computing the differences between the two as well as the similarities! My dad has always been a car guy and still to this day he's looking for a car he can drive a while then sell it for a small profit. Getting to grow up around cars was awesome ,because usually a classic and a hot rod were there for me to sit in and occasionally drive around the yard. Fond memories of digging thru a car when dad would first bring it home, finding some good and bad stuff. Got to watch and learn shade tree mechanics one o one. Jay and crew I sincerely hope that you're able to continue this channel and the love for cars for many more years! Thanks for the videos :)
So good. Wonderful dialogue and information and true appreciation for the design, engineering and history. Well done Lisa and JL.
Compare this to what cars looked like in the US at that time. BMW looks pathetic in that context.
Alex M. Some would say understated simplicity is more pure than a late 60's muscle car...
compare the mpg
US cars still trying to catch up. GT40 and Tesla sums up your successes.
Alex M. Well you could compare mpg....but at that time and in some cases now....people didn't care about mpg....
You gotta remember that many roads in Europe and the rest of the world are historic roads from ancient times. Where as roads in America is dudes with a with a ruler drawing a line over huge distances. Hence small and big cars.
Perfect episode, the car is so simple and beautiful. Lisa was the perfect guest.
Lisa is both blessed and a blessing. :) And her taste in cars in impeccable.
Wow, Jay and Lisa, thanks for the trip down memory lane. My first wife and I bought a 1969 1600 (in Bristol Grey) in 1972. And like Jay mentioned, I'm pretty sure we paid $800 for it. It was a great car and in the years since I've owned approx 9 more BMWs. My 2nd wife caught the Bimmer bug as well and is on her 5th BMW (a 2104 5-Series) right now. But it did all start with that great 1969 1600. Thanks again.
PS. The 1600 blew a head gasket and hot water wore away some metal around a valve seat in the head. Hoffman BMW in Detroit wanted too much to replace or fix the head and we sold the car to them for $400.
