      Why is there so much fascination with developing very dark theories for things in the pokemon fandom, personally i blame trickle in from the pokemon manga which does have a bit of dystopian vibe for the pokemon world. Like half the fan made games for pokemon always seem to focused on making a "darker" or "gritter" story.

    Steven is known to us as the steel champion, but I think his theme is actually ore/minerals/fossils. He's obsessed with all kinds of evolution stones. He uses fossil Pokemon.
    I think a lot of Elite Four and Champions is less monotype, and more dual speciality/vibes. Ie. Hiker is about the slow and sturdy physical attacker (rock/fighting), and Agatha is about status movies (poison/ghost). Lance and Cynthia are both about overwhelming power - the fast and strong Dragonite and Garchomp. Steven actually stands out because a lot of his pokemon in addition to being good attackers, are very good defensively: Cradily, Metagross.

    • @shadowtitanx3962
      @shadowtitanx3962 Před rokem +7

      There are 2 barriers with that idea:
      1) Deoxys that are not fatefully encountered (Events) or the one obtained at Birth Island will always disobey.
      2) There needs to be 4 Emerald Versions with 1 different form of Deoxys because in Emerald, Deoxys is in its Speed Form. Gen 3 games do not support Form variants until Gen 4.

    • @Kahadi
      @Kahadi Před rokem +4

      @@prestonpearson581 actually the Fateful Encounter thing is a check implemented in the code for only Deoxys and Mew. If the game registers they are not from an event, they will disobey. This is only a thing in gen 3, and only with Mew and Deoxys, as a rather unique anti-cheat mechanism. There are patches randomizers can implement to change this, though. You can also hack them in by hacking in the events themselves, but this doesn't work for making it your starter.
      Edit: As for Deoxys forms, the data for the other forms doesn't even exist in the game. For a randomizer or hack to allow their access, they need to actually put them in the games themselves, at least as far as I can find. Deoxys will always change forms to whatever is default for that game otherwise.

    • @Kahadi
      @Kahadi Před rokem

      @@shadowtitanx3962 It is possible to patch in a loophole to the disobedience, randomizers have found ways to as have other romhacks, so doing Deoxys in general is possible. But you are right that the other forms aren't even in the game, only whatever it's base form is for that game, at least in gen 3. The only way around it is to put them in yourself, which I believe randomizers and romhacks have done, making it possible, but not easy. Maybe he could get help to manage for a much later run, like with skipping Lt. Surge's puzzle or reading the game data for stat updates in gen 1.

    The Torkoal was clearly traded to her, since that early on she couldn't have acquired one herself yet. The traded torkoal was her ace, as it was her only good pokemon and therefore it leveled too quicky - so quickly indeed that it started to ignore her orders. Considering that this turtle is basically a vulcano that erupt, May got scared to use the Torkoal anymore and decided that the Slugma she caught was super friendly and nice to her so she started to train the Slugma instead. It's not as good as Torkoal quite yet but at least it isn't a danger to herself, her friends and her environment.

  • @Shenaldrac
    @Shenaldrac Před rokem +6

    I think the reason Mewtwo doesn't have as easy a time as you'd expect is because gen 3 is, well, gen 3. It has a lot more type representation among trainers. Like, in gen 1 you didn't have Steel types or Dark types, there wasn't really anything that _could_ resist Mewtwo's psychic type attacks. It also doesn't start with Psychic like it did in gen 1. So while it does have very high base stats, it now actually has some poor matchups. Oh, and the special split reduced its special defense so there's that too. Enemy pokemon in gen 3 also just have much better movesets overall than gen 1. Even Yellow version which tries to improve gym leaders and the elite 4 is by comparison pretty mediocre. I mean, look at Watson with self buffs, thunder wave, shockwave, etc. Hell, just the fact that gym leaders in this gen have more pokemon minimum than in earlier gens. Roxanne has 3 to Brock's 2, as does Brawly, and Watson has four.
    So, yeah. Mewtwo's still an excellent pokemon, but gen 3 is a more difficult game for a variety of reasons.
    edit: 16:30 The turnstile puzzles are fun, yeah. I call those Golden Sun puzzles, cause they're like the puzzles in the Golden Sun series which is awesome and you should definitely play it.

    TL;DR: This channel is great and others honestly just are a straight tier below yours. Also maybe hidden power bug for pokemon that might struggle with Wallace's Ludicolo and maybe Sidney and not much else(like Swampert).
    I realized why i love your channel as much as I do. It's the improvement that youve made as a creator and as a challenge runner. When i watch a video, i love the general improvement from the first run to the second (or more). It removes a factor for player error from what may be the first time you ever use a pokemon. I love seeing the strategies implemented, I love seeing how you get better. You've really spoiled me for other channels that do solo runs, aside from jrose, cause they often stop after the first attempt and say "this is the definitive answer". Jrose at least does his best to truly see consistency, and while his mild obsession with minimum battles sometimes hurts a pokemons performance more that it should.
    What made me realize this is that towards the end of the video, I was feeling disappointed. I felt like this Playthrough had a lot more mistakes than Rayquaza's. The biggest issue (aside from that dang poochyena) is that Sidney caused a 5 minute delay. (White herb plus brick break likely carries you through the pokemon you struggled with on Sidney). Right there, without touching on anything else(except for maybe calling you out for using thunderbolt on a Marshtomp and again on a whiscash 😆) is the difference in time between the two. I would say it's likely because of Mewtwo's unintuitiveness (lol, not sure if this is a word), cause I would've likely done the exact same thing. But when you said you might have to do what is effectively a versus video between Mewtwo and Rayquaza, instantly made me look at this more positively, because I know that you'll give them their best shot at their best completion time, and mistakes that made Mewtwo slower than Rayquaza will not even be a factor. Its not even funny how good you are at the improvement. You crush it! Thanks for the great content!
    Also I'm curious why there were many times you didn't use the running shoes on straight paths, but I'm sure you just night not be as comfortable with them at 4x speed. Also don't forget the white herb.

    Mewtwo is still good in gen 3,not as much is in kanto, because in emerald psychic types are really doing poorly, because of the dark types and ghost types having physical strong moves. 🤔

    My Idea for the Torcoal is that the rival in Ruby, Emerald and Saphire does not seem like a confrontational person, I mean the last fight with them you have before they even get to fully evolve their starter. So I guess since that fight was scipable and it is the only one where they can have a Torcoal the rival just thought that Torcoal was to scary of a Pokemon and the reason why noone ever fought them there.

    I was expecting Mewtwo to beat Rayquaza, but I guess that struggle fest against Poochyena mattered a lot more than I thought!
    I'm really looking forward to the Kyogre run. I actually did a run myself since I was curious, and I managed to first try Steven at level 57! You could probably do this in a lower level though, since I was too reckless and stumbled on a lot of optional trainers haha. My Kyogre didn't have perfect IVs, nature and EVs either, so I'm speculating a level 52-54 run is possible.
    I learned a few things to make a Kyogre run consistent though:
    -Make sure you reach Level 35 before the rival fight in Fortree. It is possible to beat this fight without Ice Beam, but I had to reset twice since Grovyle's Leaf Blade can and will 1-shot if it crits. It also makes Winona a joke. It's worth the slight time loss to fight some optional trainers and grab some rare candies, because the entire game after this point is essentially free. (I notably only needed to reset here and in the Wattson fight... though honestly the only reason I had to reset for Watson was because I forgot to grab Cheri Berries. So I had to keep trying the fight until I crit the Magneton.)
    -Kingdra and Ludicolo are the only two pokemon that can reasonably wall Kyogre. Funnily enough, though, both are also fodder for setting up Calm Mind. Although Ludicolo could be annoying with Leech Seed, since I almost lost the wallace fight thanks to Leech Seed getting me into red.
    -Kyogre is so strong that most battles you won't need Calm Mind at all! I only felt like I needed to set up against Norman, Wallace and Steven. I did set up against Phoebe and Drake predicting Protect from both, but it felt pretty overkill.
    -Timid is the best nature. This guarantees that Kyogre can outspeed and 1-shot Wattson's Voltorb at level 20. STAB Water Pulse on rain is so strong that it even does more damage on resisted hits than Ancientpower or Body Slam. I pretty much only ended up using the two on very fringe cases, or to save Water Pulse PP.
    Good luck on your run! I want to see that 2 hour barrier broken!

    It's me again! The guy that left that massive comment on your Absol video! I'm here with more advice for future runs. I understand this footage is old, so you're still in that "most playthroughs are fairly blind" state. I'm writing this comment as I watch the video, pointing stuff out that might be useful as I see it.
    I think you need to take the early fights against trainers on. They offer a lot of EXP, and Roxanne is very different to Brock. The kind of thinking behind "minimum battles" runs and the approaches typically taken to beat Brock at a low level don't really apply here. You beat Roxanne at lv8, which is cool, but I think getting to level 11 would be faster. You seem to value the time to clear the game more highly than the number of resets, so I think going in, setting up one Barrier and then going for Confusion was a better strategy, as you'd have a faster end time and less resets.
    In regards to Roxanne in particular, you should think of Nosepass as an Onix that's actually a decent Pokemon. It has exceptional defense, especially for that level. It has significantly higher special defense, and it also doesn't have a 4x weakness. These factors, combined with the Oran Berry that it holds mean that its effective HP is significantly higher than that of Brock's Onix. In addition to this, it also has Rock Tomb, so, unlike Onix, it has a high-power STAB move to click, so it's a bigger damage threat too. Thinking about Nosepass in this way should help you to better estimate at what level you should initiating the fight against Roxanne. If you want quick EXP to have a better time against Roxanne, the gym trainers all have Geodude, so their typing and low special defense that's easily exploitable by anything with a special move. Take the path to the right, and you can battle all three individually, making very quick work of each of them.
    You have a tendency to over-set up. You used 5/6 possible Bulk Ups against Flannery's Numel. I call this the "gen 1 mindset" because the badge boost glitch makes this so much harder to be punished for. In other generations, this isn't the case. You can and will be punished for setting up too much. In this case, you took an Overheat which ignores all of your defense buffs and put you below half very early into the battle. I think you need to practice finding that sweet spot between +stats and -HP. Each turn you spend setting up is a turn your opponent can hit you. This means another chance to crit, another chance to flinch (if applicable), or another chance to apply status, or use Sand Attack. Considering each stat boost is +50%, you'll often find that +2 or +3 is enough to oneshot anything in your path. If it isn't, you'll be real close. In this case, if you'd chosen to set up three Bulk Up, you'd have taken far less damage from Numel, oneshot Slugma, maybe take one hit from Camerupt and have far more HP for Torkoal, taking it down in 2-3 hits. Instead, you took twice that many hits from Numel and were punished for it by not having enough for the Torkoal, but still knocking it out in the same number of turns. At +2 you did under 50%. At +6, you put it into the red. Therefore, +3 and +6 are functionally the same in terms of the number of turns required to knock out Torkoal. It's a 2KO regardless. Of course, it takes experience to get better at this, but I think you will benefit greatly over time by practicing this skill.
    Once you've beaten Winona, you gain access to Fly. This is critical to speeding up some runs. This is because the Game Corner has some incredible TMs you can use to bypass level limits. Way earlier in the story, as you enter Slateport for the first time, head into the mart. There, buy a Harbor Mail. Then, as you advance to Mauville, head into the very first house, left of the mart there. There's a lady that wants the mail. Hand it over, and you'll get the Coin Case. If you can't get it right away, drop by the Game Corner itself. There's a guy by the roulette tables that tells you about the NPC in the house. Then you can give her the mail. Once you have the case, you need to start saving money. You can buy 500 coins for 10k each, and you want either 3500 or 4000 coins, so you want to save up 70k or 80k by the time you return here after Norman. In the Game Corner, you can buy the TMs for Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower and Psychic. Psychic costs 3500, and the rest cost 4000. Ideally, you want to pick one of these up by the time you have to pass through to continue the story anyway. You don't need Thunderbolt, since Wattson will give it to you. In that case, just complete the New Mauville side quest like you did in this run. If you can't learn the move, just ignore him. You don't need to do it to progress. Here, you could have picked up Psychic and carried it through for the remainder of the run, having Mewtwo complete this run WAAAAAY faster than you did. If you need multiple, or are short on cash, there are a few options. Firstly, you could battle more trainers as you play through the game. Yes, it takes time, but the amount of time you save by having these amazing moves earlier than you should will almost always be greater than the time spent battling optional trainers. The best two to battle are the very wealthy trainers with Zigzagoon. They are directly north and south of Petalburg woods. Not only should you be battling them for EXP anyway, but they hand out a lot of money. If you need a lot more money (possibly for multiple TMs), then this is where Fly comes in. Fly back to Littleroot and talk to your mom. After beating Norman, she gives you the Amulet Coin. Just hold that while you're playing through normally and you'll rack up money passively. Then just put a real item on for difficult battles. In a worst-case scenario, you can press onwards to Winona, beat her, then fly back to Mauville, pick up the TM, fly back to Fortree and continue on. It'll take around 60 seconds, but that's still way faster than continuing on with Confusion/Ember/Powder Snow or whatever move you have in any specific run. (You went on to mention the Game Corner a few minutes later, it's good to see you figured this out on your own).
    An NPC in Sootopolis gives you Brick Break. I think you would have had a faster time if you had held off on learning Calm Mind. It sounds weird but, Brick Break is really good against Sydney, and you know you have a bad matchup into dark types. You instead use a Bulk Up strategy to beat Juan (even though Thunderbolt seems really obvious), combining it with either Shadow Ball, Brick Break or Aerial Ace (for Kingdra). You then go on to use a Bulk up and Brick Break strategy against Norman, and a Bulk Up and Shadow Ball strategy into Phoebe. You then use the same strategy into Glacia. Once Glacia is down, you teach Calm Mind and Ice Beam over Shadow Ball. One Calm Mind on Shelgon's Protect turn will be enough, and then just sweep with Ice Beam. You can then use a Calm Mind + Psychic strategy to finish off Wallace.
    You should now have enough money to buy Flamethrower from the Game Corner. Calm Mind + Flamethrower will make quick work of Steven, including Aggron and Cradily. Aggron has much lower special defense, so if you're boosted, it should knock it out. Cradily is bulkier, but it should go down in only two turns. The rest should be easy. You clearly had half of this idea down already, because you did buy Flamethrower. I just think you could have sequenced the way you learned moves in a more efficient manner.
    I notice that most of the things I mentioned, typing this comment as I watched along, you went on to recognise those as mistakes in your commentary a few minutes later. That's a very promising thing to see. I think you're starting to get the hang of Emerald.
