  • USAAF drop tests carried out in Florida were abandoned, after the bomb bounced back striking the Douglas A-26C causing a crash which killed the crew.
The British sent 25 High Balls to Wright Field, Ohio , renamed "Speedee" bombs, for use in USAAF trials. Drop tests but the programme was abandoned, after the bomb bounced back at A-26C-25-DT Invader (43-22644) on Water Range 60, causing loss of the rear fuselage and the crash on 28 April 1945.

Tests were conducted by the UK on bouncing bombs between 1942 - 43 and an aircraft lost for the same reason that the plane was too low to the water. The American aircraft is even lower than the UK plane that was lost. Did the US not review what was already known?

Any deaths during war are sad, but these are especially tragic.
These men were Stateside, this was just a test, and the war was almost over.

Twenty-five Highballs, were sent to the USAAF . Drop tests carried out in Florida were abandoned, after the bouncing bomb struck the A-26C instantly killing the crew of two

I noticed that the first splash from the successful pass almost hit the tail.
I believe that in later American post war tests the aircraft was destroyed by being struck by the splash. The video is online

Because the engineers had some stupid formula most likely and told them that's how it needs to be done so they listened to them and did as they were told. Which sucks tbh.

My guess is, that this was trainings or technical test footage.

People weren’t very smart back then lol. Lets make a bouncing bomb, fly 700kmh about 50ft off the ground and drop it.
Like did they only calculate the drop and not the forward movement of the plane that this forward force would bounce the bomb even higher. They just assumed that every bounce would be lower like if you dropped a ball on the ground?
Try wipping the ball, and if it takes the right bounce on an angled surface or something, it can bounce straight up in the air much higher from the point it originally started from

You people surely realise that the original bouncing bomb dropped from 30 feet and worked beautifully in action.
What you are seeing in this video is an _accident_ which is something that even such an immense genius as OP clearly is (😂) can't account for.
In fact if only someone had consulted you then the entire war would probably have been over in a week. 😂😂
