Dear, dear Pete...may YOU stay Forever Young. Humanity has lost a great champion, and the world has lost a great man.
About 20 years ago on the Hudson river in NY, I took a 4th grade field trip on a boat ride. Me and my classmates, about 20 of us. We ended up getting stuck on a sandbar and we needed to get plucked off this sail boat by the coastguard. So they decided the best way to keep 20, 8 year olds entertained, while we waited, was to play us some songs on a guitar. We all ended up piling into the cabin and listened to some guy play his guitar. Well that boat was the 'Clearwater' and i didn't appreciate it then, but i found out later that that guy playing his guitar was Pete Seeger.
I still remember being bored lol, and thinking the songs he was playing sucked, I'd like to relive that experience now that i have a little more taste, but i'll never forget my dads reaction, in the car ride home. After i told him someone played us music, his jaw dropped and he just started laughing and said "that 'guy' playing stupid songs was Pete Seeger". I had no idea who he was lol, and it took a few more years for me to appreciate the experience he gave me but I'll certainly never forget it, thanks Pete R.I.P.
Dylan Thibault Love this story Dylan. I play guitar and was playing at a nursing home in northern New York State and a nurse there said to me, "Hey, you remind me of my old neighbor." She told me about this neighbor who used to stop when she was hitching a ride to town and scold her for doing such a thing... then he'd give her a ride to town. Yes, her neighbor was Pete Seeger. I never got to see him in person, but I sing his songs. I also got a bit of a tear reading your story, thanks.
This song means sore to me than ever now that my grandson comes to mind whenever I hear it.
Pete would be incredibly angry because of what is happening now. He was really amazing. We miss you. A 16 years old teenager.

Hello young one,may we all leave some legasy, not particularly Dosh!.🙃
RIP Pete Seeger, will forever be remembered
Rest in peace Pete you spent your entire life from the 1940s to 2012 fighting for justice and equality! Your belief in the power of music to change the world will always inspire me if I can accomplish a fraction of what you accomplished in your life I would be happy you will always be alive in my heart and in every person that you inspired
He was what America is,can, and should be.
Not just America, everywhere.
i concur with this....
god bless pete and America.....stay forever young....
AMEN!!
you got that right.
Someone really wants "likes".
One of the greats Decent compassionate courageous loving Truly a hero with honour and goodness. Rest easy brother You did good
No need to wish you that you may Rest In Peace.
You lived peace, you beautiful, beautiful man.
Pete Seeger was such a WONDERFUL PERSON! His concert many years ago in Seattle really made an awesome impression on my soul and the way I see life. We need more like him nowadays.
I'll always love him. What a wonderful human being...
While attending a rally for Jesse Jackson, my wife noticed that Pete Seeger was scheduled to perform. As we filed in to the auditorium, my wife noticed that Seeger was just up ahead, banjo strapped on his back, walking in the front door, along with everyone else.
That alone speaks as loudly as his music or commitments.
Beautiful..
It's my birthday today.... I am 23 now. I love this song and this video and cover by Pete Seeger, a great folk singer.
Pete's influence ran wide and deep, and probably will continue for years to come. I feel he was a major influence in my life. I will never forget him. I love him
Same for me.
And me, too...
He was my hero when I was at College & University. Carried that through my life.
I feel the same and I feel obligated to share his music. I'm a history teacher and his music is part of my curriculum. about 8 years ago, while teaching about the Civil Rights Movement, a student came in and told me that she had discussed "We Shall Overcome" with her father. Her father knew about Pete's activism and they had a nice discussion about it and listened to some more music together.
I love it that, in old age, Pete continues to perform. He is 92 years old in this video.
Who are the 116 people that can possibly dislike this?? Hope you're singing in the forever after Pete!!!
RIP Pete. Thanks for everything!
What a beautiful soul,Thank you Pete
Mr Peter Seerger your music will be "for ever young"
Have you heard some of his songs from his younger days. He is an icon to be respected and encouraged to share his art no matter what his age.
...this brings tears to my eyes. I love Pete Seeger/ Happy 94th Birthday You Great Song Bird you.
One of a kind, Pete never did anything for self was such a giving man thru his music. R.I.P. My brother in peace.
Here in concert in 2012, when he was 93, Pete Seeger shows he is a folk legend who remained "Forever Young."
The world needs this man now...very much...
Those before me, on this blog, Pete Seeger to us, will be missed....and I was only a very young lad in the 50's hearing his songs played on the radio, didn't know who he was then, but I loved his music (Well my analogy is-you can hear a bird whistle a beautiful tune-you just didn't see it or know what breed it was-but you loved the sound it made, it was still beautiful). You can understand why all those folk singers in latter years were influenced by him..Joan Baez, Peter, Paul & Mary, Judy Collins, Burl Ives (well he was around a long time too - then I loved Burl's singing too)..the list is endless....the reason they loved him...the lyrics Seeger wrote were true to himself...because he lived the life before he wrote them. Now, that, folks, IS folk singing. Vale Pete Seeger May 3, 1919 - January 27, 2014 - you WILL be missed by all of we folk music lovers. Very sad day it is.
The wisdom of the young fellow at the end "You're never too old to change the world." Ok. It's us remaining geezers to carry on Pete's mission. Stay forever young, and, like Pete, hopeful, joyful, and lovely to the end. Thank you Pete. You're the best there was.
Seeing Pete with the young shows me he knew and understood. RIP Pete Seeger.
Pete Seeger is not only an American National treasure, but an international one as well. So i agree that the humanity as a whole lost one of its leaders, and i even go further : I Think he deserves a Nobel Price of "Peace", as he's a real man of peace.
I AGREE
Never thought of that, I agree. He could have shared one with Joan Baez.

Tanks Pete, you will allways be in our hearts and in our souls.
You will never die, 'cause you live on in all upright humans all over the world. You will stay the torch of freedom and courage.
Word!
He's a great person.
I need to hear Pete Seeger sing, now more than ever.
The spirit never dies !
Thanks! Pete.
RIP Pete Seeger - your music keeps me "Forever Young".
Pete was the Godfather of folk musicians. He will be missed by generations of his followers.
Godspeed Pete. And thank you for all you have given us.
I had the amazing chance to work with Pete for a very long time and I was actually in this video. I miss him every single day. he gave some of the most inspirational talks when he saw any one of us rivertown kids out in public. Working with him, and amnesty international on various occasions will be experiences I will never forget and I will cherish until the day I die. Rest in peace to 2 people who made the most impact on me. Pete Seeger and Tery Udell who was the one who created rivertown kids, who gave me and many others the opportunities we had. Thank you. And a HUGE thank you to "uncle" Mark and "uncle" Martin I will never forget the both of you for this amazing experience ❤️
wow cool!!!!
that is great ! I regret not getting to see him in my life time
true
I got to see him with some other performers years ago (mostly new people, Pete was like that about promoting new talent). He was at the point that he couldn't sing anymore, but he led the audience in a rousing version of "So Long, It's Been Good to Know You", and the warmth and kindness that came from him was so strong that it didn't matter. We were there, and so was he, and it was awesome.

This great song again... Beautiful, Lovely. Hope we will keep our souls young forever.
What an amazing recording session that must have been - the wise old man surrounded by youth and vitality. A beautiful piece of work.
❤️❤️❤️🙏🦋🦋🦋✨✨✨
As a child the voice and singing of Pete Seeger hast been my lovely first exiting moment of living music
A wonderful man; a child of hope for his time. For me, simply a saint. A secular saint. Now we live in a dark time, a dark place, and his memory warms me in the cold room of our present dreaful existence.
Pete will live forever in my heart, enshrined as one man whose beacon was the brightest especially in the darkest of days. RIP Rainbow Warrior.
May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.
Zionism toHell I think it’s pretty clear to everybody else who here has the psychological condition.
May each of us stay 'forever young.'
'Always do for others and let others do for you.'
For me, Pete Seeger was and will always be a beacon of the importance of living one's truth.
There is always hope with children's voices singing especially with Pete Seeger.......great job !!!!!
Wonderful. Pete Seeger was my first inspiration to play and sing songs in his folk tradition. Thanks so much for posting. Miss you Pete....
don't know why but I'm crying a lil' ... don't know why but it feels good.

@@blabla8571 Greetings from Michigan.
Thanks comrade. As Bracht wrote:
There are men who struggle for a day and they are good.
There are men who struggle for a year and they are better.
There are men who struggle many years, and they are better still.
But there are those who struggle all their lives:
These are the indispensable ones.
God bless Pete and all men like you. The best folk singer ever.
The MAN has walked the walk, and talked that talk, true and tried, his whole life.
Hats off to the great, Pete Seeger. amen, brother, father, teacher
💚 You are now everywhere Mr. Seeger.
May your spirit, words and strength be ever strong and present in our lives.
From Spain, thank you for your songs of the civil war, rest in peace mate, and your music, your voice and your guitar, your dream they shall ensure
As always and forever, Pete is an inspiration. May you live till 120...forever young!
This is a very good version. And one of Dylan's best songs.
That actually made me shed a tear and that dont happen very often. God bless ya Pete. Legend. Peace.
Ruhe in Frieden großer Mann und danke für Dein Leben, Deine Songs und Deine Solidarität ...venceremos...
Pete--We all miss you on this earth. At University Settlement Camp, so close to your place in Beacon, NY, your singing was unforgettable, as it also was at Oberlin College. God bless you and yours forever. In your company on the Net, at 76, I feel forever young . . . . .
I hope that the world will forever be filled with Pete Seeger's songs and his activism for a civil society! I lament you passing and know that you will be fighting for humanity forever! Thank you for being a part of my life!
R.I.P. Pete Seeger!! Thank you for all your work for humanity
I listened to his music when I became interested in Dylan and Neil Young and all kinds of music like Lead Belly and Woodie Guthrie. The world is a lesser place when men like Pete Seeger pass from it, I think. RIP.
Pete Seeger is a universal treasure of the entire human race. The USA should be so proud of him, we should have given him a lifetime achievement award long ago.
I understand he is being considered for a Nobel Prize. If so, how do I vote YES for him?
Thank you ,Pete, for all the years, the smiles, the hope, your courage and,of course, your music and songs
R.I.P Pete. Your life on this planet was short, but your legacy will live on forever !
He lived untill like 94
Oh Pete, the world lacks more people like you: pashionate and forever young. Rest in the peace you always looked for!
Almost 100 years on this planet...and the important thing to remember is, most of Pete's goals for social justice and a better world came true! Far from a perfect world, but so much better than it was when he started out in the 1930s.
Pete was the first socially concious singer I heard as a boy, he drew my to folk music and a career in the helping professions. What a wonderful human being, truly forever young.
Mr. Pete Seeger, you gave happiness to all people of the world throughout your life and you were a great humanist THANKS
Doesn't get any better than this! Rest in peace Pete and Toshi and God bless family and fans
What a beautiful version of this song-it perfectly sums up the way Pete Seeger lived his life....chopping his own firewood right to the end! For the 52 of you who clicked the "Dislike" button-don't worry, Pete will still send you good thoughts from above.
I had the pleasure of seeing Pete at the Newport Folk Festival. A memory that will last forever!
Pete is the best man ever. He is the only reason for me to make the long way to the USA. To shake his hand one time I would travel this long way. I love him and his great music. He will never be too old to make other people happy.
In the year 1970 I was a camper at Camp Risinig Sun (Red Hook, NY). In 1935, Pete Seeger was a camper of that Camp too. And he visited us young campers in August 1970, and made a little concert for all of the campers. It was unforgetable event for me, 16 yo boy from Yugoslavia. I had a great oportunity to see in person one of the greatest american folk. singers ever! Great singer, great man! Thank you Pete for all you've done to make the world better!
Pete was one of my boyhood heroes. I always looked up to him.
Inspiring! Thanks Peter Seeger and Bob Dylan.
Forever Young..... REST in peace PETER. Your music touched a generation. You touched people with the richness of your music and lyrics. You were unlike anyone else since.
Pete Seeger - "Forever Young"
I don't want to sound like I'm correcting you -- what you said was wonderful -- but Pete touched four generations and will touch more.
Once one reached the winter of one's life, one learns to look at life differently. God bless those that are so angry and hold grudges against others' pasts. This is a beautiful song and I love it.
Sleep well, old friend. I´ve been listening to you and your music, since I was a young man.
Pete, We loved you and your songs will echo on. Thank you for a well lived life of service and commitment to humanity and song.
RIP Pete, sure you'll ever be young in our hearts and keep your eternal youth and wisdom in heaven...
seeger was a Commie,he did not believe in heaven.
don jenkins How true! And now he burns in HELL!
You may believe in heaven, you may not believe in heaven, but you don't know if heaven is!
don jenkins Seems like Teddy Roosevelt did not much either, but then guess he was a pre commie.
joe arimathea I'd say something scathing about that, but Pete always talked about how we should be kind to each other. Come to think of it, so did Jesus.
I grew up singing with Pete Seeger. I found this video to be incredibly moving.
Harriet Lerner, Lawrence, Kansas
Charming! Let's support these kids. This is what the future looks like.
Thanks Pete Seeger for Your Live on the Earth
It takes a long time for a seed to grow, but you have sown many, so many, seeds for decades, and your songs will, probably, for a century. RIP, Pete.
Man, what an amazing man. May his music and his legacy live on.
They say that as we grow older the lines on our face tell the tale of what really lived in our hearts throughout our life. Pete Seeger seems to be a living testimony to that...
93 this year - Pete is a world treasure!
so beautiful..love to hear children sing...
Pete's been in my consciousness with songs of truth and freedom all my life. Wonderful to see him forever young.
He was our idol in the '60s... The boys all wanted to play the banjo like him....
One of my favorite Bob Dylan songs!
Pete Seeger plus one of Bob Dylan's best songs, it does not get much better than this. As well as a great children's choir. Awesome musical performance.
It is good in these days to see true heroes of humanity. They teach us that it is possible to stay true to one self, despite that most will not listen.
Pete Seeger: a giant. a very gentle giant who never let go of his best ideals & hopes for humanity and the planet.
Thanks Pete......thank you.!
May your songs are sung forever! R.I.P. Pete...
FABULOUS. Pete knows, and continues to show us, that the future lies with children plus adults who "stay forever young." Hero and role model to millions over many decades, Pete continues to inspire. Thank you for this beautiful video.
Well, I live in Scotland and I've known about Pete Seeger since the early 60s. And I'm pretty sure Bruce Springsteen's album We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions brought Pete to the attention of a whole new audience in 2006. Pete Seeger - and his old pal Woody - is world-famous!
Thanks Pete....for everything......
