I Wanna Be The Guy - Complete Run (Part 1 of 5)

- This is my video of a full (complete) run (all secret items and bosses) of IWBTG (I Wanna Be The Guy). It's devided in 5 parts, so that I could upload 'em all to youtube.
The actual gameplay starts around 2:25 (yes a long intro :P).
I did not skip any scenes.
I, sometimes tried to go thru the screens as fast as possible (sort of speedrun or rush it) (also tried some boss rushes) and I made the video so that it would be one continious movement. (no screen skipping/dieing/saving and no pressing s at boss fights).
I also tried not to use any bugs and to play so that people would know where the traps are etc. (Sort of a walkthough)
Although sometimes you couldn't show everything, because that would get you killed and I didn't want that ;).
I did all this in hard mode, but sometimes busted my nuts because I didn't wanted to save at some points to make it look smoother. When I was reaching the end I realised I might as well had tried it in Very Hard mode, but that would probably have costed me a lot more time and since most (sane) people don't even try to go there I thought it would be better just to show it in Hard mode. (I have not tried to play in Very Hard mode and to be honoust I am not planning on doing so :P)

Additional info:
First time I started making this video I realised half way there I recorded everything with only 10 fps and that that probably didn't look good when you try to upload it. I tried to record it with 24 fps, but my PC couldn't handle it. Luckily the next day my laptop got fixed (My laptop is better then my PC :P). So I restarted the game from scratch. All in all everything worked out fine. No lagging/going out of sync. (except for 1 small part in part 5, but luckily it restored itself somehow).
I think that was enough reading, the intro should be done by now :). Have fun watching.

I don't know if you people know this be he got EXTREMELY lucky at 7:14 in the video. That bird knocks the player in random directions. It's a miracle that it didn't knock him into the two giant spikes on either side of him.

Jon Malkovich I'm pretty sure I saw a comment where the uploader says he didn't made this in one sitting. That's why it is not labeled as a "Speed Run"

This game is basically a giant love letter to the classic age of gaming.
Not just in the references and graphics, but in it's attempt to recreate that feeling of playing all those "NES-hard" era games for the first time as a kid with it's unfair difficulty.

As a person who beat it, I can confirm that I am not sane
I beat it today and teared up a little
I was able to beat it on my old windows l7 laptop. Ah, those were the days in which I just wanted something fun to play, and it certainly was fun once you got used to the traps. Plus, the references to old games were at least endearing, if not patronizing.
I consider this one of the greatest single playthroughs of any game ever.

Probably not much, this game is not that hard compared to some of the fangames. It is very hard for people new to it, but experience goes a long way.

Son Goku Insane? The sections shown in this video are pretty easy. Takes me about 10 minutes to complete what's going on in the walkthrough

I remember playing this game and looking up a playthrough, I think I saw the fourth part of the video series, and I remembered how I got stuck on the maze part near the end of the game, so I looked up a walkthrough and when I finished the game, I felt so happy and blissful; gosh, I remember 2008, and boy was it a hard game, but you will feel accomplished when you beat this game, trust me.
I appreciate all the time put into makimg such a detailed description section and for playing the game in a legit manner. I never like watching things like agdq because they always take advantage of bugs etc and it kills all the fun and invalidates any claim to "skill" to me.

The fact that the Kid shows up as an assist in Fraymakers shows that even he is not forgotten. Just watch out for the apples if someone summons him.

This game is one of the best of its kind. After you get the game's mechanics it gets easier and you can predict most of the traps. Has shitloads of references to other games that are well imbebbed to this game. I found it quite awesome :D
Glad to see the "I Wanna be the Guy" levels are just as dumb in the original as they are in Super Meat Boy.

theres not much logic in this game, its like DIE > TRY AGAIN > LOOK FOR INVISIBLE BLOCKS YOU CAN JUMP ON > GET KILLED BY RANDOM JUMPING BLOCK
It's trial, error, and memory. Definitely not my kind of game.

I almost beat the game within 2 years. This video was in mid 2008 and the game was made in late 2007. That means this dude had less than a year to master the speedrunning of this game. GG to him.

Why does all the retro style games or hacked got to be very difficult?
because game were very short back then and to make them feel long was due to the difficulty. some games can be beat in 20 minutes. but if its difficult it can feel much longer

I agree. I don't see why anyone would even want to play this game, much less finish it. Castelvania III, Ghosts 'n Goblins, and Ninja Gaiden I understand. Those games are fun and challenging. Having to memorize levels is not overcoming challenges. It's just memorization.

As a seasoned veteran of Demon Souls, Dark Souls I, II, and III (no PS4 so no Bloodbourne) I Wanna Be the Guy is infinitely more difficult and frustrating.
